66 - Hanging Gardens of Ionica
SAVAGExPHOENIX commented on MilitantRadical's City Journal Entry in Ionica
Okay, so I want you to know that I'm stealing this idea for the Illium City's Shrine of the Fallen (our war memorial). It's so stunningly beautiful that I can't *NOT* use it!!! Wonderful update. I hope mine looks half as good as yours (although my Peg water gets brown boxes and I have no idea why so I'll have to use something else.)- 22 Comments

The Kingdom of Illium // ISIS Targets the Alliance
SAVAGExPHOENIX replied to SAVAGExPHOENIX's topic in SC4 City Journals
Navarro: A Blooming Flower (Part I) Thanks for all the positive feedback, guys! I know I promised I'd finish it, but we did all our christmas shopping today, so I had pretty much zero SC4 work. Also, these are all raw SC4 shots, with only very minor touch ups. Anywho, time for the story! In June of 1996, the town of Navarro, 185km due west of New Dallas and a population of only 417, was selected as the next site for one of the largest retail companies in the world: Walmart. Navarro was the largest population center for almost 75km around, so it made it a logical place. Walmart purchased the land on the corner of Provincial Highways 380 and 1499, just off of Inter-regional Highway 30. Construction began in September of 1996. Unfortunately, the Super8 motel and four homes were in the way, and the New Dallas Provincial government began drawing up Imminent Domain paperwork. Most people complied with Walmart's offer, however one homeowner held out for a couple of months, before Walmart made an undisclosed offer that couldn't be refused. Fortunately for all involved, Illium Kingdom Imminent Domain laws require a purchaser (whether it be the federal/provincial government or a private entity) to pay at least 5% more than current market value, so the homes and motel were all fairly credited. The Navarro Walmart opened in May of 1997. Unfortunately, the small town wasn't prepared for the huge influx of traffic. The traffic nightmare only took a couple of weeks before the town council decided it was time to expand the main road through town, PH-380. Construction began in July of the 1997, and by September, the widening project was in full effect. Unfortunately, more businesses were affected, this time a Maise Petrol station and a Denny's diner. Both were sold and demolished in less than a month, but were allowed to keep their business permits, and planned to stay in town. By May of 1998, the avenue through town was nearly completed, and construction work had begun on the IH-30 interchange upgrade. Both Denny's and Maise Petrol completed the construction and opened next to the Walmart, as well as an Illium National Bank local branch across the main road. By April of the new millennium, the road construction had been completed, including the new Diverging Directional Interchange beneath the freeway. The influx of new jobs also prompted developers to start a new subdivision behind the INB local branch. As more people moved in, new services were needed. As new services were needed, new employees were needed, so new homes were built. It was a perpetual cycle. The town began to experience growth like never before. Fast forward to 2008, and we'll see that Navarro had grown quite a bit. The Navarro High School was completed, the Jayson Bartholomew hospital operational as well as a Town Library and dozens of new homes and businesses. To handle the expanded development, new Police and Fire stations were built as well as another clinic. The town council knew that Navarro had much more potential. A deal was made in 2008 that would change Navarro forever. We'll cover that deal, next time, in Part II of Navarro: A Blooming Flower -

Just a little teaser. I'm venturing away from dazzling photoshop work and the big city and documenting some small town growth. Here's a little peek into this documentation It all started in June of 1996, when one of the largest companies on Earth set it's eyes on the quiet little town of only 417, Navarro, just off of the freeway... (click for larger view) -
I'm doing a non-story related entry for the Illium Kingdom City Journal, showing the growth of the small town of Navarro. Here are the "before" pictures. Overview, showing the the town, the interchange for IH-30 and PH-1499. This is about 185km West of New Dallas, in the southern flat plains of the Kingom. (click for larger view) Here's a closer shot of the town of Navarro itself. In June of 1996, the population was 417 (425 including the 8 non-resident college students). The town was established in 1903 by Jeoffrey Navarro at the intersection of two of the main roads in the area (Now PH-1499 and PH-380 (PH=Provincial Highway)). I'll probably post the "after" pictures after the CJ update is complete.

Realistically, there wouldn't be cars there, unless it was like the second coming of Christ or the people died in their cars type disaster. Most people's cars would be at home or in front of their buildings. It looks much better when it's barren and devoid of everyday life items like cars.

Way to go Tonraq. That was an awesome battle! Tonraq - 2 Kisa Atsuko - 2 @Vortex: I don't have a traffic generator and I had yet to build up the residential portion of the game so there were pretty much no people in the tile yet. -

Tonraq - 10 Ln X. - 2 Another win by Tonraq (Great photo editing btw. Beautiful shot!) Here's mine. Although I'm a huge advocate of Photo Editing, I wanted to show off just how much is possible with SimCity 4, proving that you can make a beautiful city WITHOUT photoshop. So, without further delay, I present to you Downtown Illium City, with the only photo edit being the name. The rest is all real, raw and totally ingame shots. daTS [Warning: Large Mosaic Picture, click for FULL VIEW] vs Tonraq -

If you look at the second image, you'll see that it's basically just raytraced reflections. I tried selecting the "thin walled" (for single face objects) but it just ended up being solid black. Again, I can live with it. -

It's actually really easy to do. You just need to make rectangle splines, add a cloth modifier, select an appropriate type of cloth, make a wind force and set the direction, then set anchor points on the cloth splines and stop the animation somewhere in the middle. -

Thanks! I've got those and I'll list 'em as dependencies! email them to me at datschikinhed [at] live.com As for everyone else, I'm working on a new project that I hope to have soon. Illium City is hosting the 2014 Alliance Games. This structure will be used in the opening ceremony, which is based off of my AIN Monument. Still a WIP, obviously -

Mind if I get your lot (with dependencies list) so I can update the STEX. Your lot is much much much better than mine. I have pretty much zero lotting skills. -
