A little bit of tidying up to do but a few more variations. the Yellow minibus is from Hong Kong, but seemed to fit with the overall theme and was also based on the same chassis as the others, so I am taking a touch of artistic liberty there. Currently, this is set up so one is a replacement and three additionals for the school bus. Would people want these as additional regular buses too?- 178 Replies

I will do my best to make some more japanese trains in the future. There are some in the request queue already but the scary thought is some earlier requests have been in there for almost years :scream: It's always going to come down to whether I will have the time to complete everything, but i'll try my best to get around to some eventually. In the meantime, I did a little tweaking to this model and minor differences aside, i'm happier with this model now, so this is the base i'll work from for a couple more japanese minibuses, as well as the other bus automata I started on before. Will aim to get a pack each of about 5 designs and put them out.- 178 Replies

I'm willing to make something, but I would ask for a reference for the sort of thing you want. It helps guide me to something you want, because a quick Google shows two very different types of school bus. :v- 178 Replies

Random musings of the day: I think I stumbled across one of the original listings or models for the vanilla bus. This is the texture for the default vanilla bus ingame. lots of small details that can't be read easily, small yellow posters with some text on them, and it looks like the blue was not the original colour, as there's hints of red/purple around the edges https://www.3dcadbrowser.com/3d-model/bus-emt This is a listing from 2002 for an 'EMT Bus' model. it seems to be just a blank texture, but the shape, poster layout, and other detail seem to line up with the texture. https://www.renderosity.com/marketplace/products/87225/emt-bus-for-poser This appears to be a re-listing (of which there are many) of this same model, but with the textures included and clearer. and the destination boards appear to line up, the logos on all sides of the bus also match what was listed. and importantly this listing also demonstrates the bus in both a red texture and a blue one. I don't believe any of the models themselves were used for the automata ingame, nor do I have the make of the vehicle itself. But it does seem like those model(s) were the basis for the textures themselves. I do not know what i'm to do with this information, but I wanted to put it somewhere. :v- 178 Replies

Got a quick SC4 question?... Ask here!
dragonsteincole replied to City_Slider's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Is there an option i'm missing that would set the default day/night cycle to 'day only'? Recently, something has changed, not sure what, but the game will always default to using the full day/night cycle when loading a city, and setting it to day only and saving doesn't seem to have any effect. Not 100% sure what the expected behaviour is supposed to be after all these years tbh. -

I've just updated my Class 33 mod to version 2. A big update, adding so many more liveries and polishing up stuff, and hopefully setting myself a template for how to do further big locomotive packs in future. One thing I am aware of, the track checkers do have a slightly jank animation when on tighter curves, but isn't too noticeable and is comparable to how certain road automata pivot from the front of the vehicle rather than midway along the wheelbase. I decided to keep them in the mod for the visual variety they add to railways. They also lend themselves well to unique situations like these, which imo look neat and replicate triple-unit drags in real life.- 178 Replies

Another detour, fixing up something I started up in 2020. Class 08 shunter locos, which will be in just a wild array of colours and liveries and states of dirtiness. These will come with animated connecting rods, something I didn't know how to do at the time. I may also make track-checker versions too.- 178 Replies

"My name is Dr Eggman, the greatest scientific genius in the world!" The Mirage Express is a decommissioned cargo train, that was modified into a passenger train-like 'badnik' by Dr Eggman. However, in this form, it will not trap and try to kill various overpowered critters, but instead transport your sims around in a quick and fabulous manner. INSTALLATION Drag the folder into your 'Plugins' folder. COMPATIBILITY This is a single DAT, containing a REPlacement for the default Maxis passenger locomotive and coach. As such, they will interfere with any other mod that replaces the default Maxis passenger loco and coach. DEPENDENCIES No hard dependencies. Use Dark Nite for the best results for nightlighting.- 2 Comments

I have just made and released, on a complete whim, the 'Mirage Express' automata mod, based on the namesake from 'The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog' So in the three hours between the last post and now, I had the fun idea to give myself a bunch of work, because "haha april fools". This is so goddamn niche I have no expectations of people using it or really knowing where it came from. But it now exists for SimCity 4, which it didn't beforehand. :v It is based of the Vanilla Remake Passenger Train I released a while ago, and I did really enjoy going OOT with the nightlighting though. it'll stand out, thats for sure. Fight a train as Sonic the Hedgehog, for free!- 178 Replies

I feel like this is the sensible solution, and I have done almost the same method for the original Class 33 stuff. So yeah, choice is preferrable overall. On that note, been working on some stuff so far, getting the basic REPlacements done. The following image from left to right: Steam Freight Passenger Freight As a by-product of this, I have also created a Steam engine spawner, which I will include with the El-rail and Monorail spawner set I created years ago. That will be uploaded "Soon(tm)"- 178 Replies

dragonsteincole's Workshop
dragonsteincole replied to dragonsteincole's topic in SC4 BAT & Lot Workshop
I'm having a bit of a struggle deciding how I want to organise a pack of automata, and figuring out a good system would help for similar packs in future. Using the above image as a guide, not gospel as it is a couple years old and there are a few more designs not pictured. But essentially, I want to release this as one pack. As shown on the image, there are groups of locomotives, there are single locomotives, there are certain locomotives that will only be available for a certain rail type. The current plan I have is: Have a REPlacement, and ADDitional DAT for each group of locos, for each type. I want people to have the option to use as many/few of the available locomotives as desired, hence wanting to provide everything individually. For example: For the group 'BR Blue' there would be 4 DAT files. REP and ADD for Passenger, and REP and ADD for freight. Each REP DAT would include 4 models, 1 Replacement automata, replacing the vanilla maxis automata, and 3 additional automata. And the ADD DAT would include the same 4 models, but all 4 would be additional automata However, there are a few models I want to keep as REPlacements only. Namely, the Network Southeast, and Intercity locos. The reason for this is, there is specific rolling stock that would go well with these specific locos https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/35467-dsc-passenger-british-rail-mk2-coack-pack/ With the above said, here's where I would appreciate some guidance: Do people prefer to have the ability to pick and choose what locomotives to use from the pack (even if it results in a lot of DAT files being used)? OR Do people prefer to just have as many locomotives as possible available (with a lower amount of DAT files being used)? Is there another way of organising the groups to be more efficient, or to better allow people to pick and choose what locos are used?- 178 Replies

This set of automata was requested by, and is dedicated to Simtropolis user Odainsaker. DESCRIPTION This file contains three sets of automata, based on the JR Kyushu 787 Series. The 787 series has operated in Japan since 1992 a number of named express services across the country, and a number of 'Joyful train' services such as the 36+3 luxury express. These are HD and come with nightlighting. INSTALLATION There are three folders, drag a single folder into your 'Plugins' folder, or install with SC4PAC. COMPATIBILITY Each DAT contains REPlacements for the Maxis vanilla Passenger loco and coach, as well as two ADDitional coaches. Any ADDitional coaches from other mods made by myself should remain compatible, however this cannot be guaranteed for other mods. For best results, please use a single DAT and remove any other files that REPlace the Maxis vanilla passenger loco and coach. DEPENDENCIES No hard dependencies. Use Dark Nite for the best results for nightlighting.- 2 Reviews

I have just released the 'DSC Rail' DD Regional Passenger Set, my first custom/fictional automata! What started out as me just wanting to make a double-decker train for my own use, morphed into this larger set. The vibe is 'British Amtrak', as well as having the mix of single and double-deck coaches, I also included an observation/sight-seeing coach as well because they always seemed cool. I may release more 'DSC Rail' packs in future.- 178 Replies

Something that came about on a whim today, was an idea to make a 'modern' set of double-deck train automata. I wanted them to have a vaguely british feel to them, despite there not being any examples of them operating in the UK for 50-something years. Hence I decided to make it a fictional set based around my own branding. Here's the result of an afternoon's work so far: I would like to maybe have a few variants, before releasing anything. But I am enjoying the results so far, and the process of making stuff again. Edit: Loco- 178 Replies

I have released the Glasgow Subway (Tram Version) pack. As mentioned before, this should better suit any tight in-road sections of tramway whilst looking futuristic for those that enjoy that sort of thing. Elsewhere, the progress on the 787 series is good, I have windows and nightlighting sorted on the two replacement models. I will add some extra carriages shortly.- 178 Replies

dragonsteincole's Workshop

Hello. It has been a little while since I posted here. A long story short, after the passing of my father in August of 2023, unfortunately our family was thrown straight back into the same situation, only this time with my mother. Sadly, she passed away on March 3rd, 2024. It's maybe understandable that I was not able to dedicate any time to this during and after the matter. I still browsed and looked at what was happening, and occasionally replied to comments or messages, but it's only in the last few weeks that i've felt any desire to return here more purposefully. For the time being, I will only be doing a few bits and pieces, no big commitments and no promise that I will be able to clear the backlog of requests I had built up. A minor project that I will release in the next few days will be a request from @bhmantan for a tram-sized version of the Glasgow Subway automata. This is so it looks more appropriate on small, sharp curves on tram track. Here are some previews: The second project I have been working on is a bit of a mixed blessing. It is the JR Kyushu 787 Series train sets, and this set will be dedicated to the memory of the person who requested them, the late @Odainsaker. Sadly I was not able to complete their request whilst they were with us, but I hope that others will be able to enjoy them. This is the current progress of that set:- 178 Replies

DSC - Passenger and Freight - Class 33
dragonsteincole commented on dragonsteincole's file in Automata
CorinaMarie is correct that one folder is for Passenger locos, and one is for the freight locos. Both folders contain one replacement file (which has 'Rep' at the end of the name, and the other 4 files are additional locomotives. There are no files within this archive that will replace either the 'vanilla' steam engine, or the 'Airforce Base' steam engine as rsc204 has mentioned. This mod on it's own, would not affect either from appearing. If you use the Rep freight loco, then you should not see the vanilla freight engine. If you use any of the Add files, then the vanilla freight engine will still have a chance to appear. That is expected behaviour. With a clean Plugins folder and only the Freight replacement file 'DSC_Class33_Blue_F_Rep' (and the train generators found elsewhere to force a freight engine to spawn), the Class 33 locomotive spawns every time. I have tested this today and this is the case. I will say that these were one of the very first mods I uploaded, and as such there may be potential for an error to be present that hasn't been detected until now. If that is the case, then I will be happy to try and problem solve in my thread. -

DESCRIPTION The Class 33 is a Diesel-electric locomotive, built in the 1950s and used into the 2000s in the United Kingdom. Over their lifespan, they were used for both passenger and freight duties. There are twenty different liveries included, in eight groups. Every group has REPlacement and ADDitional versions, so can be mixed and matched as desired. Some groups are limited to certain types, others are available as all types. There is also a single DAT, that will add all 20 locos as track-checkers. These are ADDitional, so can be used with other track-checker mods. These will mimic 'light' engines (where an engine runs by itself without hauling any rolling stock), and add a bit more life and variety to railroads. All models have nightlighting and HD textures. INSTALLATION Please remove any existing version of this mod from your Plugins folder before installing this new updated version. Folders are organised by Type > Livery Group > REP/ADD. Please only choose one REP DAT file for each engine type (Passenger/Freight/Steam). ADD DAT files can be used in any combination. The Track Checker DAT will only ADD track checkers, and does not include a REPlacement. COMPATIBILITY Any REPlacement files will replace the Maxis vanilla engines for their type, and will conflict with any other automata mod that REPlaces those files. Any ADDitional files will co-exist alongside other REPlacement mods, and are designed to also co-exist with any other mod that adds ADDitional engines. DEPENDENCIES This mod has no hard dependencies. However, consider the following: Use Darknite for the best results with nightlights. Certain liveries will be complimented by rolling stock included in the Coach Pack mod. Examples such as the 'Network Southeast', 'Intercity' and 'BR Blue' liveries have matching rolling stock in this mod. -

Thank you for reporting this, I will investigate the issue, as it is entirely possible i've overlooked something. Edit: I've replicated the issue myself, will have to figure out the exact problem/fix tomorrow, so unfortunately for right now i'd have to recommend not using the El-Rail/Subway DAT for now. I believe I have fixed the error, and amended the download accordingly. it should be safe to continue downloading the file. @superhighway_410 would you be able to re-download the mod and test to see if the problem has been fixed, or still persists?- 178 Replies
