Content that actually affects the gameplay

Hi there, I'm fairly new to the game, started a couple of months ago and fell right into it.

I'm actually filling my plugins folder and I'm looking for all the mods that actually enhance the gameplay, that adds some depths to the different parts of the gameplay.

Most of the content of the exchange sites are about cosmetics, building variation, realism purpose, etc so it's pretty hard to a newbie like me to figure what are the content that actually affect the gameplay.

So far :

It can be indirect, like making the game more satisfying/enjoyable :

And of course all the fixes : SC4Fix.dll, OperaHouse, Crimedoestpay, I-HT fix, Jobs multiplier.

Can you guys help me to complete this list ?

First one I'd add to that is the AMPS mod by @RobertaME. Its a significant revamp of the games electrical system modelling things like Peak and Base loads, transmission infrastructure and the like. Its technically still in beta i think but the mod is pretty much there. Bear in mind that this mods kinda necessitates downloading quite a few other buildings to make it all function properly. Beta version is available for DL in the dev thread.

Discusions also started on a 'similar' water system mod, but no progress so far on that front.

A word of warning, the CAM usually requires MAHOOSIVE amounts of downloading to make it work properly, mainly to fill up all the new growth stages. While its a great mod if you plan on building something like the Tokyo or New York areas, it is distinctly less useful when building rural style. I'm not recommending for or against it, just saying think ahead when planning a plugins folder, the chief thought being 'what am I trying to do/build?' Threre'd be little point of installing a farming mod if you are planning to rebuild Coruscant or Magnasanti.

Other thoughts: Add the I-HT fix and the jobs doubler or quadrupler to the list too.

Here's the mods I would recommend, can't link them because I'm on my phone but you can find them on the STEX.

IRM: Industrial Revolution Mod (It's more than cosmetic because it changes the way industry is zoned) you can use it along the Industry doubler or quadrupler

Cori's NKO: No kickout mod (blocks wealthy Sims from taking over houses and buildings of a lower wealth, thereby giving you more control over the development of your city)

Thank you guys, I'm kinda surprised because I spend some time searching mods, but I've never knew about those you mention. Some great addition there.

Really? I did read about CAM and install it carefully by following the steps, but I did not know additional content was needed. Like what for example ?

    Perhaps another honourable mention...
(CB is tooting his own horn here (precisely in tune to the key of C Major  ), but thinks this mod might be useful, since a corrupted city would be severely detrimental to gameplay otherwise.)

IRM does compatible with CAM, but you have to use the unofficial version available on STEX:

I personally use it. Hope it helps!

RCImulti is a modpack that affects so many aspects of the gameplay and in such ways that can change entirely the way you play. It can create more jobs for all commercial and industrial buildings, rebalance them so even the dirtiest factory can hire well-educated rich Sims, remove the cap from all RCI buildings so you'll not need to create connections or build rewards, maximize the demand of any kind of zones you wish (like always having demand for farms), increases the water pipe radius, and it can even add jobs at residential buildings so your Sims will work at their homes! Especially the last one is an actual earthquaking change, because not only can reduce and even eliminate unemployment, but it can even allow you to build entire cities without the need of having a single shop, office or factory.

Another mod that affects the gameplay is Simoleon RH, which not only increases the amount of money you begin with when you found a new city, but it will also increases the amount of money you earn by taxes, so you don't have to worry too much about money anymore and you can build anything you want whenever you want. Just start a city, reduce the taxes to 0% and have fun.

Wow, now that's a lot! Thanks you guys.

However I see many mods/fix that interact with RCI, and it's kinda hard to tell if they are CAMpatible or not.

Already mentioned, but worth a second mention. *:ohyes: If you'd like to have improved Maxis farms, here's a dynamic duo that will make you wonder how you ever did farms without them:

    ────────────────────────────────

    Here's some more mods which I don't think anyone's mentioned yet ...

From the NAM team, if you're really keen to have diagonal bridges, and don't mind a bit of trouble to make it work, or if you just want a non-destructive way to drain the sea:

Too often taken for granted, SC4Mapper 2013:

Here's a curious set of mods I haven't tried yet, but keen to one day, underbridge mods:

For those wanting to avoid using power lines and towers. Simple and effective:

And an excellent guide to BSC Functional Seaports, an area I haven't been game to try yet:

A fix I've never had to resort to, but I've noted just in case:
