For me the effort of the installation is simply not worth it, I don't build enough roads for that, etc. But for the enormous work that goes into the work and the benefits for the players who use the traffic network intensively, one cannot express enough praise and recognition. Unfortunately I only have two thumbs but I lift them ...*:thumb:*:thumb:

Finally got the NAM 38 installed last night! I'm clear that this is still in an incremental development process while the NAM team recovers and catches up after the eternal delay of NAM 37, but I'm very eager to see what NAM versions 39 and 40 will bring, as they will add features I've been wanting for ages!

So far I've been able to get my custom settings from NAM 36 and 37 put into place, but it'll be a while longer until I realize the full potential of NAM 38 because my current main region isn't as sophisticated in terms of transportation, but some of my side regions definitely are.

Wow wasn't expecting another new version so soon, very cool.

Some of these new features are unexpected and amazing. Hybrid Rail in particular, I've been wanting to incorporate monorail but Rail, El-Rail and GLR has made attempts unwieldy for me.

I have chosen Euro Texture (RHD) and all seems working except the road - it is still showing US style with two yellow lines in the middle.

I installed NAM 38 fresh.

HRW currently works as puzzle pieces, it's not draggable like the Real Railway, the High Speed Rail Project, or the Real Highway. For it you gotta do the following:

  • Place puzzle pieces which can be more restrictive, like curves and track switches. Within each menu item, you'll cycle through the pieces using the TAB and Shift + TAB combinations. Keep in mind that, since this is a rail-based network, the pieces will naturally take the slope setting you have for the railroad.

  • There's 3 pieces for straight segments: short orthogonal, long orthogonal, and diagonal. Place them along your desired alignment between curves and switches.

  • The HRW brings 2 stations: one which accepts both Monorail and Railroad passenger traffic stopping, and another accepting Railroad passenger traffic stopping while letting Monorail traffic pass through. This mimics local/express timetables in your rail line. Keep in mind that these stations, and track, do not allow freight traffic to operate, those will require a separate regular rail line.

  • The HRW also brings some viaduct pieces, yet to try these myself in a meaningful way.

Yes, you must run the 4GB upgrade program against your SC4 executable file.

Good night people. I've been trying to install rural roads as seen here in this hosted download: https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/14620-peg-mtp-rural-roadways-mod/?tab=comments

I ended up discovering that these roads are old and are actually a customized option for SAM (Street Addon Mod).

NAM 38 Do you have these rural streets? Does anyone know how I can put it?

The NAM 38 is already installed on my SC4 but there are only normal roads.

Thank you.
Tchau.

@Mercandelle The rural street texture you are looking for is an override texture in the SAM found in the roads(streets?) menu. You place the starter piece for the texture you want and drag away from it with the street tool. After you have a length of it dragged out (10+ tiles) you can demolish the starter piece to stop access problems and the texture should stick to the streets you have drawn. NAM 38 also added a connector piece to allow you to connect two different SAM overrides more reliably without having to go via a road tile.

Whte_rbt understood your explanation and I really imagine that it is exactly to make the rural road, however even with your explanation it is difficult to know how to do this in the game. Very difficult.

@Mercandelle

I'm following up from our PM where you show that SAM (Street Addon Mod) appears to be installed, so here's how to use it. (I'm writing here in the NAM thread in case it'll help other peeps too.)

The Starter Piece you need is under the Roads Menu:

7010-5935.jpg

After you click that, you have it on your cursor. It starts with SAM-1 which is parking lots:

7010-5936.jpg

Click once to plop it. Then tap the Tab key once to cycle to SAM-2:

7010-5937.jpg

Repeat for SAM-3 and SAM-4:

7010-5938.jpg
7010-5939.jpg

(There are more than 4 choices. I just stopped with this one since this is a How To demo.)

Then back to the Road Menu and get the regular Street tool:

7010-5940.jpg

Click and drag thru each of the plopped starter pieces:

7010-5941.jpg
7010-5942.jpg
7010-5943.jpg
7010-5944.jpg

And then you can bulldoze off all of the starter pieces:

7010-5945.jpg
7010-5946.jpg

I've found that 7 or more cells seems to be fine for it to retain the override texture. Sometimes even 6 is stable, but less than that and it'll revert to the regular street textures. Also, you can use Shift+Tab to cycle thru the available SAMs in reverse order when you have the starter piece on your cursor.

Generally not. They're usually too busy building the damn thing to bother with PR releases and updates. We've all just come to look on it as a random present that you're incredibly happy to see but at the same time you're usually left cursing inside because you're halfway thru a build and the update forces a massive rethink of your city because you just have to put in some of the new bits. Enjoy. There is a requests thread, but have a thorough read of it first to make sure you're not requesting something thats already been rejected.

If you're still getting CTDs of that nature, it's almost certainly something memory-related.  Double check that you did in fact install the 4GB Patch correctly.  If you did, you can tell by going to the folder where your SimCity 4.exe resides, and if it's patched, there should be a file named "SimCity 4.exe.Backup" in the directory as well.  The default installation locations, for quick reference:

    • GOG.com: C:\GOG Games\SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition\Apps
    • Steam: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\SimCity 4 Deluxe\Apps
    • Original Disc: C:\Program Files (x86)\Maxis\SimCity 4 Deluxe\Apps
    • Origin*: C:\Program Files (x86)\Maxis\SimCity 4 Deluxe\Apps

*Note that only Origin copies acquired through Free CD Key Redemption (Version 1.1.641) are compatible with the NAM. Copies purchased through the Origin Store or accessed via Origin Access (Version 1.1.610) ARE NOT COMPATIBLE. See here for more details.

If you do in fact have "SimCity 4.exe.Backup" in there, there's still some other possibilities to consider:

    (a) Do you have more than one copy of SimCity 4 installed?  This is pretty common for users who have switched from disc to digital (in the wake of Microsoft's changes with secdrv.sys with Windows 10 and updates to earlier versions of Windows), as well as for users who may have switched digital editions (i.e. from Steam to GOG).  Make sure the version you've patched is the version you're using.

    (b) What are your system specs, and what version of the operating system are you using?  If you have less than 4GB RAM, or are running a 32-bit version of Windows, it's possible that your system is not keeping up with the game with the vastly expanded set of network rules (RUL files) in the NAM Controller.  You may need to manually compile a new, smaller NAM Controller using the Controller Compiler, disabling some of the more heavy-duty features (like the higher elevated levels of the RealHighway (RHW) plugin).

I'd been wondering about this so I did a test. I made the .exe file to be patched read only and then ran the 4 GB Patch on it. It creates the .backup version even when it failed to apply the patch. :O

Now, ofc, it's not likely peeps will have their game executable as read only, but with Windoze having lots of little restrictions it could be preventing the update and so the presence of the .backup file prolly isn't the way to tell if the file has been patched.

I believe we should be having peeps look at the modified date of the file to patch instead. *;)

Im going to have to start all over from scratch again. Kinda upset but my fault being greedy downloading soo many plugins.

I had close to 3GB worth of stuff but I deleted everything and really have to start off fresh again.  In the future I'm going to donate and get those DVD's and will start all over again

Question before I install -- If I already successfully installed NAM 37 and the 4GB patch, which has been working flawlessly since July, do I just simply delete the Network Addon Mod folder and then install NAM 38?  I don't need to use the 4GB patch AGAIN do I?

This part I know. You are correct, you do not need to do the 4GB patch ever again. That stays with the SimCity 4.exe file forever.

As @CorinaMarie said above, in terms of applying the 4GB Patch and if already having done this to the game's executable file, it won't need to be done more than once. This is because it toggles over the preference which allows the added memory to be utilised, which NAM 37 onwards now require.

In terms of the installation, this part from the description suggests that moving out the current "Network Addon Mod" folder will be the way to go:

On 04/09/2020 at 11:12 AM, Tarkus said:

If you are upgrading from a previous version of the NAM, MANUALLY MOVE YOUR OLD NAM INSTALLATION OUT FROM YOUR PLUGINS FOLDER, INTO A SAFE LOCATION (note that this has changed from previous NAM releases)..  The NAM installer can no longer detect your previous installation options by reading the existing folder structure.  It is recommended that you check your existing installation, to determine which features you presently have installed.

    Hope this helps! *:)

Which means you don't need to apply the 4GB patch to THAT SimCity 4.exe again. However, if you move to a new machine (or corrupt your current SC4) and install SC4 again, or if you switch from an ancient disk version to a newly installed digital version, then you have a new exe that probably needs the patch, so keep the patch program handy. Also, there might be some other EXEs that need the patch sometime (didn't somebody around here mention TSCT, datpacker, iLives, datanode or the like benefiting from 4GB patching?)
