Thanks for reporting, this should now be fixed.

The author (drunkapple) hosted the file externally, I guess due to the large file size (34 MB). This meant it was linked to the external location. After checking, it seemed this wasn't associating correctly, so basically there was no file to be downloaded. I just made sure this was working.

I'm afraid lots of the errors are very generic, since there are many possible causes.

Thank you! I know many of his has been externally hosted; unfortunately, he doesn't have an index over at his own site. But yet again, thanks.

    Hi,

When I click on Find their other files on STEX I have a page displaying

That page does not exist. Error code: 2S100/1

    @Golhbul

Thanks for the heads up -- that would appear to be a new bug following the weekend update.

The link is not correct, for example:

    https://community.simtropolis.com/profile/131403-nam-team/content/?controller=members&type=downloads_file

When it should be like this:

    https://community.simtropolis.com/profile/131403-nam-team/content/?type=downloads_file

The same also seems to apply to Gallery images:

    https://community.simtropolis.com/profile/710377-cloneboom/content/?controller=members&type=gallery_image

    Compared to:

    https://community.simtropolis.com/profile/710377-cloneboom/content/?type=gallery_image

I'll add it to the list of things awaiting a fix.

For now as a workaround, you could try removing the parts in red, or view a member's profile to list their content and files. ;)

The "find their other files" button doesn't work for me. It just returns a message saying "That page does not exist. Error code: 2S100/1", and tells me to "contact us". The same thing happens with every upload, regardless of what type of file it is or who posted it. It's made navigating the STEX even more tedious than it was before.

Just a few more to add to your lists...   6458530.gif

I have noticed this clipping happening on all user profiles as well as for all submenus.

Also, I cannot create posts with quotes in them. Whenever I hit "Submit Reply" the field blanks and the little red message shows up.

    Thanks @nos.17

I can confirm the menu issue.

Do the quotes not work in a specific browser?

@Cyclone Boom ... Tested in the most recent versions of each browser: Chrome  52.0.2743.116 , IE 11.0.34, and Firefox 47.0.1 . Quoting people in new posts does not work. I keep getting the same little message in the corner.

    Edit: Video

Edit 2: Computer restart and cache clear had no effect.

    Quote whole post.

I'm using the latest version (updated a day or three ago) of Firefox.

    Edit: Seems ok for me.

Videos are always really helpful, thanks for that. :)

The "This field is required" message is shown when no data is there to be posted. Basically when you click reply, the contents of the post aren't being received by the server, so can't be processed. Then it just throws back this error message.

I've taken a look at your permissions, and these all seem in order.

Since the issue occurs in multiple browsers, and isn't present after a restart/refresh, this is a tricky one to diagnose. I'm wondering if it could be an item of software interfering with the editor. Do you have anything installed that's used in all browsers -- maybe a common plugin or extension?

I did notice this little green arrow icon shown inside the editor on the bottom right, which isn't a standard site feature.

This seems to animate when you hit the "Reply" button, giving the impression it's interacting with the post:

@Cyclone Boom ... Its Grammarly for Chrome. Basically a grammatical auto-correct. As the name says, I'm running it in chrome only, and disabling the extension does not appear to have any effect. I would not have expected that to be the problem as I've had it for a few months but only recently noticed the quote issue (in the past 2-3 days).

I have no extensions  in Firefox period and running IE in "No Add-On" mode changes nothing.

I appreciate very much the time you are taking to look into this.

In really hope this is a bug and not a site decision:

I have been fully aware of the 1000px width limit in posts and CJ entries, but having just put together my latest entry, I was hit by a 705px height limit. This scaled down some of my mosaics to be very small indeed.

Is this a bug, or a site feature? Because 1000px x 750px doesn't really allow for mosaics.

I believe this is a default setting within the board software. I'll check whether this can be modified, as similar to the Gallery, it isn't ideal for mosaic type images.

    @nos.17

OK, I'll see if I can come up with some other suggestions. Otherwise when Dirk returns, we can file a report with tech support for further investigation.

So, I've been getting this error occasionally ever since the update last week. Almost always now I get it on 1st try going into chat. I close the chat box, try again and sometimes get in or I get it a 2nd time. I don't recall it taking more than 3 tries tho to get in chat and once I'm in, everything is normal.

    59654d718d507_05_ChatError4H269-N.jpg.12042900e9ff572a5a86f66dae01bb8e.jpg

And it took about 10 tries to get this image to display as an image. I've had that off and on ever since I joined. I suspect that some delay between me and ST gets bogged down and the proper handshake or whatever doesn't happen. As long as I try and try again, it eventually works.

Good news... I've found the setting responsible, and increased this to a maximum display resolution of 1280x1280. This means an image will be scaled proportionally to this (as a maximum width or height). After testing, this should be large enough for a CJ entry and forums won't be affected since this is a narrower area (max width of 1000px).

Previously posted images should be batch rebuilt over the next few hours or so. If this doesn't resize them, feel free to insert your images again and they should resize appropriately.

The default option really only catered to the forums, and this will hopefully make it better for CJs. ;)

Being intermittent, a connection delay does sound a likely scenario. Then again, if it's happening more frequently since the update, maybe something changed in the backend with how chat is configured. Wish I could give more info or details of the error, but apart from the release notes, that's all I know right now.

I suspect a cache/cookies purge wouldn't help, but that might be worth a try. Or see if you can narrow it down to an issue particularly with Firefox.

    @Cyclone Boom

I've been getting the "This field is required" bug too, lately. It's excessively annoying, since it pretty much prevents me from posting anything, probably including what I'm typing right now.

    EDIT:

So it didn't prevent me from posting this. It seems that the bug only happens when I'm quoting someone. Which basically means that I can't use the quote function, since it will just reject my message if I try to use it.

There was an error joining the chat room. Please try again or contact us. Error code: 4H269/N

New news on this. I started waiting about 10 seconds after clicking the chat menu item before clicking to agree to the rules and enter and so far I've not gotten the error again for about a week now. Being a limited test of one peep on one comp it's not conclusive evidence, but either they fixed things or I'm brilliant. ;)

For someone who's Never visited this site, that @timotheus4 sure created and uploaded a lot of stuff. *

I'm sure it's cause the tracking of one's last visit came later than the actual last visit, but it sure seems silly. If that is an editable field, how about: A long, long time ago ...

    Sorry for the late reply.

Does the issue occur similar to how @nos.17 reported above?

There must be a common factor here, as it isn't happening to everyone. I'll try and do some more investigating...

There's quite a few founding members with that label. Yeah, it would mean they haven't visited the site since the field was added (5+ years ago), so it just displays an empty record.

Anyway, I like that idea, and it was a surprisingly easy fix.

    @DavidDHetzel

OK, with 3 confirmed cases, I've added this as a priority bug on the first page. Wish I could do more to help, but these deep code-level issues are really out of my control and expertise.

Something must be causing it for those with a certain browser/system config. Until it can be forwarded to the devs, right now all I can suggest is to try clearing your cookies/cache or see if it works in another browser. As of yet, I'm not able to reproduce it on my end, so it's hard to know what is the likely cause.

Again, we're very sorry for the inconvenience.

Ok, this prolly isn't a bug, but could the board software be set so when one views their own profile it does not add to the Profile View Count? I ask cause I've added a bunch of linkys in my About Me page for quick reference when I'm chatting with peeps. I go there to get the URL if I feel something I've written will help them. However, that tends to give me an inflated view count. (Yes, yes. I know I'm egotistical pretending I've written brilliant stuff peeps ought to read. )

In the same vain vein can we add the Likey Button to an About Me page? :ooh:

Those two things would be useful. I'd certainly support them, but they're not currently options within the board software.

For now, I wouldn't worry about it too much -- the view count has never really been totally accurate. In a previous site version, there was a bug (now fixed), that seemed to multiply profile views exponentially, or not add them up correctly. A perfect example is with @Benedict who has accumulated over 5 million views, averaging at over 1,000 per day! :P

I don't have any bugs to report but I do have a few requests for improvements to the site.

    1. Is it possible to change the rating system for CJ entries? Imo those ratings should be visible just as they are for ST Exchange uploads. At one time the rating system for uploads was anonymous as well but a lot of content creators were very unhappy with that situation. By making it visible people naturally became more responsible for their voting habits and unreasonable down voting has virtually disappeared. Likewise the same should apply to the CJ section which in essence is another form of "content creation". Maintaining anonymity for the challenges makes sense because the idea is to get as many people participating as possible and the occasional low vote is drowned out. But I'd rather not have a voting system at all for any content I create that's not challenge related if it's going to get anonymously down-voted without any added justification. Optimally I think best idea is if you comment on an entry you can choose to rate it as well, rather than the ST exchange process where you have to vote and comment.

    2. Total CJ views are calculated in a misleading way. My guess is that it only calculates views to a CJ's "home page" and most certainly not the total amount of views to each entry. For instance the total combine views for all of Ln X 37 journal entries is over 27,000 yet his journal only shows that it's been viewed about 3250 times. It seems anytime you click directly on a journal entry instead of the journal itself it bypasses this counter.

    3. It would be neat to add a filler to enable CJ's to be sorted by comment and follower totals.

    4. On that note total comments should not included comments made by the CJ creator. Nothing wrong with replying to a comment there, heck that's my preferred way to respond. But that counter shouldn't included the 100 or so times I've done that :P  Though I can see that as being something that's not easy to automatically implement with the software.

    5. I've noticed that occasionally the "Popular Contributors" list shows the top 5 instead of just the top 3. Showing the top 5 is definitely better and should be the set standard.

    6. On that note perhaps we could also have a most likes given list? Well... that might be a bit gratuitous, it just something I'm a little curious about.

One last question. What's the procedure for getting a thread pinned or unpinned? Do the mods chose or can it be requested?
