I really dislike the new design. I think it doesn't relate well to the site, except maybe on the part facing memorial and towards 3 WTC.

The view from the Village, to which the whole design is supposed to relate to, is horrible.

And yeah, I did really like the previous design, but unrelated to that, this is a really really bad architecture on a really really important and prominent site.

To be honest, I also prefer the original design. The new one looks like the revenge of the boxy architecture of the 70's.

Well, they are working on it everyday.. I was there last weekend and its amazing the amount of work and people they have in there.. on the other hand, remember that the project was stalled for some years.

Now, what I dont understand is why would a company like FOX would move there and force them to re-shape a building.. makes no sense.

A good insight:

http://www.wired.com/2015/06/bjarke-ingels-design-two-world-trade-center/

Honestly, it's quite shocking. I can't see how the design fits in with the rest of the WTC complex. From some angles it's not so bad (mostly the East side), but the whole building blocks thing doesn't work for me either. It looks jagged and unstable, especially for a building of that size. As for those news ticker displays underneath, well...

I don't think it'd be that bad if the sections weren't overhanging so much. That's what does it for me.

Sometimes I think designs can be good, but pushed a bit too far, without considering the bigger picture. At the end of the day, it's all about the money. Fox made the best offer, so they became the main tenant. Next they wanted larger corporate spaces, so the old design has been abandoned in favour of a functional & more bold design. I'm sure they're less concerned about how it looks, but more how it can be practically used (and of course the costs).

From the fact sheet, one thing is it's labelled as a "concept design". Hopefully this means there's room for changes. Although with money the pressure point, it'll be what determines the end result. Unfortunately, what the rest of the world thinks won't be the driving force.

What on earth am I looking at?

I liked the old design... it seemed pretty unique to me. Leave it to Fox to come in and ruin it; this thing looks like a 1970's eyesore.

Why are they trying so hard to screw up NYC's skyline?

Don't you think calling him "retard architect" is taking it a bit too far, though? IMO, everybody's free to dislike and criticise his work as much as they want, but ad hominem attacks (i.e., verbal attacks directed at the entire person) are almost always inappropriate and tend to discredit the point of view of the person who uses them.

You probably didn't mean it that way, but posting the picture together with that text can be perceived like someone saying "this is the culprit, so you know whose face to slap when you see him". ;)

In any case, I think reactions will cool down. Whenever something's new, the ones with the strongest feelings against it are generally the first (and the loudest!) to speak up. Then, after a while, the building simply becomes a part of reality, and should it ever be lost due to some catastrophic incident (which I hope will not happen!), then it will become a symbol of the better times before this incident. For example, as far as I know the old WTC wasn't that hyped and loved by everyone as long as it stood, either. I guess now that it's a thing of the past, the majority of people, ironically, think more fondly about it than they did when the towers still stood. :lost: It's just the impression of an average bloke from across the pond, though, so I may very well be wrong.

This being said, I also liked the old design better, and I liked the idea of the roof panels pointing to the plaza. However, I don't think the new design is so obtrusive that it will be thought of as a bad eyesore for decades to come.

No, you are not wrong, they were considered an eyesore by many.

The fact is, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so no matter what, you can't please everybody.  I've never been a fan of steel and glass anything, really, but this current design looks like a building my 3 year old would erect using building blocks... which I kind of like

I'm sorry, but there is a difference between the original plan for the WTC, which some people disliked (cant argue with that), and this horrible thing right now lol! it really pisses me off everytime I see it.. its like a raging feeling inside.. Why would they do something like that.. he should go back to Denmark and propose that in the middle of Copenhagen.. and see what happens.
