Lovely update as always. I very much like the pictures with the observatory hill in the background. It's amazing.

I see a car park I recognize :)

About the tourism values; I removed them from the carpark to help with the commercial demand thingy. If you've installed the commercial demand fix, you can load the car park up in the asset editor and increase the tourism and entertainment values again.

You won't see that car park completely filled up though. I ran into the 64/64 prop limit way before I could add functional parking for all those spots. I guess the 8x8 lot is just too big if you want more functional spots. Might have to go for a 4x8 for better effect.

feyss: Talos is there to protect the lumber yards from pirates and invaders.

Vitor13: Thanks a lot! Of course it's a lot more easier in this game to realistically carry out urban planning.

jesper107: Type in "medium 7x4 park with playground" in the Steam CS Workshop search and you should find the park. I would be more detailed but for some reason I can't view the rest of the mods on the Workshop.

89James89: Thanks. More often than not I tend to go for the low angled street level shots to capture a more immersive feel.

    CDM Madero: You're welcome!

iviaarten: Tamboria's observatory on the hill is akin to the Hollywood sign overlooking Los Angeles. I always love the observatories constant prominence in the background. As for those carparks, well, I did some messing around in the asset editor- almost broke the game! So I will stick to downloading content instead.

Entry 5, Strip Mining and a Quarry

Just South of Great Dun Fells suburb is a strip mining site hidden away from the rest of the city.

    ///

    QoZvlw.jpg

The area is called Winfeld Levellers- named because of the mines stripping away the top soil to extract various ores.

    VseM1k.jpg

    Dq2peg.jpg

    HYSpaQ.jpg

The buildings of Winfeld Levellers are powered by their very own coal power station which exclusively generates electricity for this area.

    p3xtXY.jpg

    6ceBzg.jpg

One cool feature I noticed about the traffic is that it slows down when driving up steep slopes! This is especially so of trucks!

Winfeld Pit. Over the years it has been steadily dug out.

Winfeld Pit has some steep slopes!

The CS developers really nailed those dirt / (brown rock) textures.

We're still in the centre of Winfeld Pit.

    Dear sir/madam/whoever will read this!

    This profile is now defunct.

Computer problems and issues with accessing my Imageshack account meant My SC4 CJ Scrapbook was lost and utterly irretrievable. This setback put me off SC4 for many months.

Apologies for the inconvenience and for the lost pictures.

But that SC4 itch did not go away and it had to be scratched! I have started afresh with a new account here- The British Sausage

The URS is a spiritual successor to the SC4 CJ Scrapbook.

With this update this will be the last time I visit my original Simtropolis account- admin/mods feel free to remove it or do whatever you need to do. I have no further use for the Ln X (BLANKBLANK) account.

wow, I loved what you did with the mining operation. Really creative use of the landscape there.

Seeing it like this I think the industry buildings (especially for the mining industry) are a bit too clean in my opinion. I hope some modder does a nice retexture on those.

Altogether amazing update, and that teaser is making me look forwards to the next one already :)

Great city, very inspiring! How is the traffic going given that the CBD is fairly far away from the highway? What roads are you using to feed into the main high-rise areas?

iviaarten: This game is going to keep me busy for many months. Already I'm thinking about starting on a new map for next week!

Vitor13: About 80000 I think. I will check that the next time I go back to Tamboria.

The candy man: It is a very solid city simulator and if you get tired of the vanilla game then there are a whole ton of mods to make things interesting.

perken: It is surprisingly quiet in the CBD, most of the traffic jams come from the highway intersections and the industrial areas next to them, and even those traffic jams are nothing too serious. As for the roads I use a mixture of six-lane and four-lane avenues with a smattering of two-lane one way roads in the CBD, while two-lane roads make up the vast majority of roads in Tamboria.

Mymyjp: Thanks a bunch! There is even more industry in this update!

jesper107: Excuse me while I kiss the sky!

    Entry 7, Grungy Industry

In Simcity 4 one of my favourite things was to create industrial areas using a plethora of mods. I also enjoy creating industrial areas in Cities Skylines to and though the building diversity is more limited, there are enough filler mods, new custom buildings and core game options to keep industrial areas interesting.

    ///

    lfko0c.jpg

Tyler Estate, an industrial sector just east of Tamboria's CBD.

    25KZb9.jpg

Tyler Estate has a variety of industries: tree farms, timbre processing, ore processing, oil extraction, oil refineries and a variety of other factories to producing an assortment of goods to be shipped to Tamboria's shops and beyond the city.

    rQMx2R.jpg

Power stations can be useful buildings for breaking the industrial monotony.

    wlRbv6.jpg

    t2H411.jpg

Another useful trick is to divide the industrial area into several different districts and assign them to generic, oil, ore or wood industries.

    O17rM9.jpg

Using this method one can maximize the building variety in the core game.

    i6zTzr.jpg

Fillers from the Steam Workshop are another big help to. Not only do they remove monotonous buildings they contribute to storage space. Sure it isn't functional but it looks good visually.

    bze2Po.jpg

The second major solar farm site in Tamboria.

    rRuSe6.jpg

Container yards, carparks, dirt and concrete fillers are suburb monotony busters of Cities Skylines industry.

    rzviJ2.jpg

But nothing can beat custom buildings!

    CeJhHf.jpg

Tyler Pit Museum was a former coal mine shaft, but then the company outsourced to another country and the Tamborian council eventually decided to turn this building into a museum.

A couple of trashy billboards just beyond Tyler Estate.

    oX2vyP.jpg

    It's all about them fillers.

    8l43GL.jpg

    Ik9SLJ.jpg

    rBXl2k.jpg

The interchanges look a little scatty because I try to maximize the traffic flow and thus reduce congestion.

    UQHKCB.jpg

    A nodding donkey!

    qbNolN.jpg

Just wait until mega industrial buildings are created and proper carparks, storage areas, warehouses, smokestacks, pipelines and canals- then I go truly OTT with the industry.

Have you played GTA V? Your hillside oil wells and industrial sectors look a lot like what's in that game.

If not, you can always download the GTA V city on the Steam Workshop. It's worth checking out ;)

As a side note, you should think about promoting your work on r/citiesskylines. Nearly 1 in 10 players are subscribed on that subreddit, and I think your work deserves to be shared there. It's that good! :D

You'd have to link to the image directly. That means your submission would only be 1 pic.

-You can also make an imgur album of your photos, the first image would display as the thumbnail.

If you're going to link to this thread, I don't think there's a workaround, you'd get the ST spaceship :P.

Vitor13: It's becoming more easier to create reasonably realistic industrial zones- the fillers are a big help. But the massive industrial buildings and complexes are still sorely missing. I'm sure modders will get onto these in the next couple of years.

    IL.: Thank you

MiNIggy03: Actually there are growable hemp farms available on the Steam Workshop, they grow as part of the forestry industry. As for Purple Haze Mall, I found it here- http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=409615847&searchtext=.

Entry 8: The Sun God and Railways

Using some mods to improve the image quality and also to alter the position of the Sun, I had a hell of a time taking pictures- even if my graphics card suffered. All the links to these relevant mods can be found at the very bottom of this entry.

So for some reason the city always seems to be under a constant sunset. Wait a minute...

    cHWpPQ.jpg

After travelling to the mysterious realm of Steam Workshop the mayor returned with new Godlike powers.

    ggOkBi.jpg

And he positioned the Sun upon its zenith and the Cims were all dumbstruck...

    cxaApr.jpg

Leaving aside this vain mayor, it is so cool to move the Sun around ingame!

Using the Dynamic Resolution mod one can vastly increase the anti-aliasing and smooth out the pixels.

    Og3ANW.jpg

The sharper picture does emphasise the textures though.

    Su1aid.jpg

It works wonders for far-distance pictures though.

With the latest patch it sorted out a cargo train station bug I was having, so with that fixed I decided to lay down a rudimentary railway network.

    QIeOCz.jpg

And now let's briefly follow this passenger train.

The offices in this game look pretty snazzy.

    ETvdms.jpg

Let's go back to Lumber Sands where there are at last cargo stations to cater for all the wood and timber.

The mining site Winfeld Levellers is back there in the distance.

    1PBlZG.jpg

And a freight train stops to take delivery of various timbers and logs.

    qalKlH.jpg

Thanks to the cargo station the forestry industry has expanded in Lumber Sands. With a demand for more workers this suburb sprung up South of Lumber Sands.

I'm not sure if level crossings (railway crossing for all the non-Brits) came in the latest patch. Still there is one cool and realistic feature about them...

    HmM89x.jpg

Both cars and pedestrians stop when the barriers go down!

Carparks and storage zones reside next to the hemp plantations.

There are so many industrial fillers available now on the Steam Workshop!

    Yet another overview of Tamboria.

And a taste of what is to come with the new camera/image mods out there in the CS Steam Workshop- sun shafts!

With regards, Miles Saunders-Priem aka. Ln X aka. The British Sausage

Wow is that one large city. Would love to see a traffic overhead.

Going to have to get that sun positioning mod and the high resolution mod.

    Great job.

Wow, I love the contrast between each area in the city, which is shown in the last few updates. The quarry and the industrial zones are great because they're themed really well and has a different atmosphere from the cleaner city center. Really enjoying this CJ.

Those two sun mods are excellent...nice find! Can't wait to check them out. This is, for me, the go-to Cities: Skylines City Journal. You're a constant source of inspiration. Loving what you're doing with the vanilla game and the mods. Beautiful stuff. :)
