Really? Wow, I never noticed that and I have been playing SC4 for nearly 9 years!

Lol really? I found out on the first day. I wanted to see who the hell would light off fireworks in the middle of a blank tile. Blam, there they were.

For some reason the transparent textures for the fence love to vanish, leaving a gaping hole into the great abyss..

Wow. That happens to me all the time too; generally when you open up a new panel/go underground/save game. It sucks when you try to make something nice and this happens. :(

This hasn't really been an oddity for a long time now. It's the Water Bug that occurs in lots that have a transparent base texture and an overlay. Switching to Zones view and back solves it temporarily, the forums have a lot of threads on this.

Oh, that's great to know! I've been dying to know how to apply fixes or even temporarily solve them. :)

Probably not an oddity per se, but as I was trying to build a low wealth area, a small group of snooty rich folks decided they didn't care about my plans or what the view would be like.

This is one of the biggest headaches in Simcity. The game doesn't give you the ability to specify the zoning. For example, you can't zone low density low wealth residential zones, just low density residential zones. Even worse, the game refuse to collaborate with you, so you'll end up with tenements in luxurious places and vice versa, unless you take the control. Demolishing and marking as historical is the best solution, but it's also the most annoying.

"If you try to please everybody, you often times end up pleasing nobody, especially yourself. When somebody offers to do a favor for free, like making a mod for SimCity 4, you shouldn't be overly critical of something generously given to you. In other words, you shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth." - Twilight Sparkle after playing SimCity

"Being a mayor or a content creator for SimCity 4 is a heavy responsibility, Patrick. Each city and each custom content is like a child, and must be treated as such." - SpongeBob Squarepants after playing SimCity

"Without deviation from the norm, progress is not possible." - Frank Zappa

"The wisest men follow their own direction." - Euripides

That is why I plop EVERYTHING now

Meh, tried that before, wasn't a big fan. It feels too locked, not as vibrant and alife as a city that grows. Mark historical what I like, bulldoze what I don't.

Does anybody else has this one?! :D haha

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

If you want seperation of wealth, make your citizens live right up with industries, the ones closer to grimy industrial areas would be low wealth while the others would be middle weatlh. Keep lower wealth/rare buildings by marking them as "historical".

I know that the wealth of an area depends on how many nice things you put near it, but it does seem awfully silly to me that in order to really keep an area low wealth, you have to deny them things like police, fire, schools, parks and even trees--not to mention letting them get choked by air pollution. This is not remotely realistic.

I wish one of the brilliant modders in this community could come up with a way to add a neighborhood layer to the map, so that you could define the boundaries of a neighborhood, and within those boundaries set the wealth level, the tile set, and even a name. Then if you define an area as high wealth, nothing grows unless you meet the high wealth requirements.

You can't - it's the limits of the game.

To keep an area low wealth, building your residentials next door with the dirty factories inevitably results in a permanently low wealth area with lots of pollution, too much for parks to handle. You can also realistically limit the funding of your utilities(school, police, health, fire) like many cities where utilities in low wealth areas have very low funding. Keeping homes historic is also an option. I tend to do this. Any middle class house that tries to build will become dilapidated, adding to the realism.

Keeping an area middle class is also not hard. By limiting zone sizes and splitting zones(to prevent 3x4 and 4x4 mansions from growing), that area is essentially kept middle class, since the rich simply can't build their mansions in the first place.

I'll do a random drive around the block before I go to work...

Not sure if this might count as a NAM bug or not actually; seems to be a common pattern for commutes from houses on the outside of these corners.

Upon loading another one of my older cities, I encounter this:

I think it is a building ID conflict with the roundabout filler I used at the time.

It's not on SC4, but it's still pretty related -- was playing around with the displacement maps on my newest BAT, and then after 3/4 hours of rendering and waiting I got this rather odd result:

It would've been a shame to just leave this picture lying around. :P

You can manipulate taxes to control who lives in your city. If you don't want rich people, jack up R$$$ taxes to 20%.

I'd actually like being able to control wealth in some cases, like when I want a slum area without having to demolish middle class houses and make the slums historical.

Otherwise, I like having development whether it is low or middle class, just to fill in the blank zones.

It is used and also i can drive automata :)))
