You're worried about trolls down-voting your creations? Really Red?

Don't be so insecure. You know you're great. Your work speaks for itself.

It's a shame you don't intend on finishing that futuristic building. The STEX needs more fictional buildings.

Thanks for all your hard work. I hope you decide to upload some of your newest creations soon.

Red, I'm not sure how you could downplay your BATs just because some people seem to think they're not worth it. I'm not sure if you realized it yet, but you're pretty much one of the best BATers this community has ever had. Never doubt your skill :)

Besides, you're work doesn't even deserve 5 stars.

Could probably be, idk, maybe star.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.png...

And on the side note, you just happen to be one of the best roof junk BATers as well (if not the best. Haven't seen roof junk done so well. Even on tiny modular buildings). You wouldn't mind throwing around 3ds roof junk models on the STEX, or even a tutorial on how you do it? ;)

Roof junk is not that hard to make, Huston. All you need to do is just make a bunch of pipes and tubes going through cubical and cyclindical containers, with a metallic textures applied.

That futuristic building I made: Unlikely to be completed. Sorry >.<

sxvAx8.jpg

So that means I have to find a new centerpiece for my downtown, or even make my own? Too bad.

Forum Theatre: I lost motivation when all the detail got lost in the render. Hope to pick up again soon.

Nice Russian-style building. It definitely looks good.

Some really good looking projects in there. St. Paul's Cathedral is especially impressive. It looks like a 4 star BAT to me! (I am so sorry)

321-333 Flinders Lane: Needs texturing. Not sure why I haven't got to it yet. I haven't made it a priority.

If Customs House doesn't have me sitting in the window with a flat white it is absolutely not accurate.

Great updates Red!

Wow.. too much response to my one sentence, inflammatory as it was :P

Just to be clear, I don't place any credence in the star rating or value my work according to the opinion of trolls. I know I make good models. Maybe not great BATs, but good models. I'm proud of them :thumb:

I just don't get why we have a troll enabling tool that serves no other real purpose. Its already been stated a few times in the last few posts that no one pays attention to the star rating so whats it there for? To give trolls a field day and discourage uploads... Anyway as I said, the emotional scars of my last upload will eventually fade and you'll see something from me then :D

There probably won't be much movement on this BAT thread for a while I'll be working on some BATs for the Rio project

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Regarding Roof Junk - I actually already made a tutorial in my but its pretty much what Konstantin said. The only other tip (if I can even call it that) is for the really big obvious stuff, do a google image search on the thing you're making and make a detailed model from detailed references. For Nauru House I looked up rooftop air compressor unit for example. Another good one is Building Maintenance Unit. When you look at these images you see much more than you would from aerial/birdseye views. Then as Konstantin said, you just pad it out with pipes, cylinders and boxes. Then you can apply machine-like textures - I use CG textures as my go-to texture site, and the 'Manmade' category for this purpose. At BAT scale, they look amazingly more impressive than they really are. ...How's that for a mini tutorial?

Good suggestion on sharing my roof junk models, I can include some of the roof junk models as part my prop pack when I eventually get around to it.

See you all in Rio

Thanks for the pointers and directions, this should give me some more incentive on spending more time with rooftop detailing :P

You make it look so easy. I have a hard time figuring out how to configure roof junk. It's so hard to make them look good the way you do with your BATs :P

    Dear sir/madam/whoever will read this!

    This profile is now defunct.

Computer problems and issues with accessing my Imageshack account meant My SC4 CJ Scrapbook was lost and utterly irretrievable. This setback put me off SC4 for many months.

Apologies for the inconvenience and for the lost pictures.

But that SC4 itch did not go away and it had to be scratched! I have started afresh with a new account here- The British Sausage

The URS is a spiritual successor to the SC4 CJ Scrapbook.

With this update this will be the last time I visit my original Simtropolis account- admin/mods feel free to remove it or do whatever you need to do. I have no further use for the Ln X (BLANKBLANK) account.

With regards, Miles Saunders-Priem aka. Ln X aka. The British Sausage

I really hope you have the opportunity to finish and release a lot of these wonderful creations. Your Melbourne recreations have been some of greatest recent uploads and have added immeasurably to many cities. Those that criticise are merely venting their jealously and don't represent ST members that appreciate quality BATs, lurking on the file comments rather than coming onto the forum and giving their feedback.

Please forgive, can't resist to comment about this.

As you are already amongst the batters who are immortal on the stex, you shouldn't worry about. Trolls come in for the moment, but they don't have any persistence. Your bats have.

So what will happen? Look at the bats that are on the stex for ten years, voted some hundred times. If there were some trolls first rating them, their opinion was washed away by time.

Regarding the aspect of time - those, we called 'trolls' here, they are banging their head against things made of stone. The stone will still be here when their heads are long broken.

You are the creator of some really massive SC4 monuments. No need to think about those people. They are always the first to appear and the first to disappear.

Your bats are the opposite. They will last.

I just want to give my humble opinion on this trolls rating subject.

I agree with Red on this, and personally I would suggest that the rating system become restricted. How? Easy, you must gains a certain reputation within the site before you can rate other people's work. This makes complete sense if you think about it.

Why should someone who hasn't demonstrated anything at all, nor been helpful in any way on the site be allowed to give their opinion on the quality of anything? It is indeed, empowering the troll to cause relatively serious damage both to the creator and to potential users who might decide not to download something based on the rating(I know rating eventually climb back up if something is good, but for the first few days bad rating can really affect things).

I  know that probably the perpetrator(s) have enough rep anyway, but perhaps it sends out a message? Shrug.

    Cheers

Wow, some of those BATs look amazing, i can't wait to see them on the STEX. I've just started playing around in 3ds max, and these trolls must not comprehend how hard it is to make these creations. Keep up the amazing work

He mentioned in a few posts above that there are too many downgrading trolls targetting him on the STEX, so he has been uploading his more recent works on the more tightly controlled LEX over at SC4Devotion.
