Isn't having a roadway running directly under an airport rather dangerous? One car bomb could ruin your whole day.

Actually it is rather common. McCarren Int. in Las Vegas has a really long tunnel and Raleigh-Durham has an underpass under a runway. Im sure there a lot more but I just took it to another level.

It's better than Gibraltar, where there's a main road going directly through the middle of the runway. :boggle:

I believe one in Nashville International does something similar: It's not the runway, but two taxiways cross over Donelson Pike

Nice intersections srawldaddy74! I think more on-slope transitions would make them even better--and I agree that tunnels under airports are relatively common.

One from back in February from me:

epohjanmaaxchange.jpg

And a closer view from the opposite angle:

epohjanmaaxchange2.jpg

The concept was to create an intersection with realistic scale, curves, and merging lanes in as small a space as possible. Utilizing flyovers instead of a more conventional A2 or B2 parclo layout gives a bit more space for the offramps and allows the next junction to be placed closer to this one without increasing weaving. The original concept was significantly more compact because it featured an avenue tunnel instead of an underpass, but I got frustrated trying to make the tunnel adjacent to the outside MIS's and gave up. I'm considering revisiting the interchange, possibly using FLUPs to save two tiles or even expanding the motorway from RHW4/6 to RHW6/8.

Let me know what you think! My MD "Siilijoki" (SEE-LEE-YO-KEE [Finnish]) will likely be getting a Simtropolis edition soon.

Kj3400, I think you can smoothen out that interchange a bit. maybe add some smooth curves and more space for the merging lanes? But it strangely resembles the semi-compact interchanges i like to make.

... not the best interchange in the world (and it's still missing a connection), but here it is.

Its a Biggish Interchange btu is not yet Complete. I'm hoping to put some Highway Sound Walls on to Give Extra affect and in the next week or so I might Build a City a Round it. Bare in Mind, this was a Mid-City Tile. Here are some more Images of the Interchange close up:

Though I do use the RHW and aim for *some* realism, I like to keep my interchanges compact so my sims will actually use them. A small collection of the ones I love best:

I like this one for its design

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/29498835/simcity1.jpg

Roundabout interchange. I added some of those fly-overs later on, but the interchange itself was one of my first RHW interchanges.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/29498835/simcity2.jpg

Entrance to a city.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/29498835/simcity3.jpg

this one was incredibly hard to construct due to the enormous bridge, which creates a slope that is very hard to work with. The entrances to the suburb were added later.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/29498835/simcity4.jpg

This is a more recent one, where I had knowledge of how to use slopes and the "on slope" puzzle pieces. Sadly the road is over its capacity because diagonal avenue-over-RHW doesn't exist...

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/29498835/simcity5.jpg

Also a recent one in a "posh" suburb, where I had knowledge of slope mods and "one slope" pieces. Overpasses look much cleaner if you learn how to use that, and it doesn't take up that much extra space.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/29498835/simcity6.jpg

Some random butterfly-like off-onramp.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/29498835/simcity7.jpg

Finally a roundabout interchange with an actual roundabout.

my thought is that it's not necessary to use the MIS transitions. you could have run the 2 wide RHW just through like you did one time. With the MIS it might end up as a bottleneck under higher traffic flow

Not perfect, but a new interchange I built in a fictional region.

  • NWM TLA-5 over RHW - Nope, that is just standard avenue.
  • Maybe RHW 7C in the future - Unlikely.
  • 90 degree turns for MIS - Not a new feature. It's already present in 4.x.
  • Almost direct connections to RHW 4 to avenue - Just standard RHW->OWR and MIS->OWR. This functionallity goes back several versions...

The only new features in this picture are FARHW, FAMIS and some new ramp interfaces...

Re RHW-7C: This is already possible in the current public version of the RHW, albeit through a workaround. All it is is an asymmetrical RHW-6C/8C.

And I see you guys wasted no time picking out the new features.
