Only my second time posting on here so please be kind 44.gif. But here's a rather crude 3 lvl roundabout3lvljunction.jpg

Edit: Here's a second 3 lvl roundabout:

3lvljunction2.jpg

Those are some good interchanges you built.

Here is a simple interchange with some development.

@steelersfanforlife: that's a nice and compact looking cloverleaf there.

For my next city I'm going to be trying to build a "border city", where there are two distinct halves; I also thought it would be nice to have a bit of an effect where they drive on different sides of the road. Whilst in simcity this is more or less impossible I thought it would be nice to have the highways change direction at the border so here is a prototype junction based upon the lotus bridgee in malau. Naturally this is a prototype and needs A LOT of work and also getting around the river issue. (there's going to be a river where I've put in that street, but I thought I'd share it with you anyhoo.

That is entirely unnecessarily twisted.

What would be easiest is just to have one direction cross over the other with one simple overpass, rather than all these loops. And even if for some reason you wanted to maintain the loops, the lanes from north-to-south can just continue straight in your example.

Well, yes it would be simpler to do it that way, but as I pointed out it's based upon a real life junction http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lotus_Bridge:

Lotus-bridge-macau.jpg

Obviously it's very large and unnecessary but I feel that having a one of junction like this would be far more interesting and would add a little bit of character to the city.

It looks like the loops in the above picture are constructed to reduce the slope to the bridge in such a narrow space after the control point. However, in your case in SC4 it makes no sense, since it reduces no slope whatsoever.

From what I understand the loops are meant to achieve two things; 1) to reduce the slope and 2) to make it easier for queuing traffic (as it is going to be slowing down at border whatever!) and yes the junction I've pictured doesn't achieve either of these things which is why I pointed out in the post that it's a prototype and not a finished product (which, at the moment, achieves these things much more appropriately). Perhaps prototype is the wrong term and maybe "loose sketch" is more appropriate. 31.gif

@Tewkesape: It is no doubt that a junction like this would add character to every city, and the fact that it exists in real life is really interesting. Wicked, but interesting.

@Ee99: Those are very interesting pieces! :O Did you make them yourself, and are they transit enabled with proper pathing?

Pic coming soon! Can't wait for NAM 30 and RHW 5.0! Wish i knew the release date. Pity there isn't one. 44.gif

I can't recall if this type of interchange was ever shown here before, but this is what's known as a Pinavia Interchange, which is essentially an oversized grade-separated (or antiweave, as I like to call it) roundabout-type interchange.

capturepinavia.jpg

Nothing else right now; Just this one.

And before I forget: Will, that's a nice Trumpet Interchange. Really compact.

Thanks Ganaram DI. It is based loosely on an interchange in Melbourne Australia:

if you type this in Google Maps it should come up: -37.826565,144.930557

With the double interchange I had 8 RHW-4's coming into the interchange. If i did on/off ramps for every RHW-4 it would be too complicated. So I created a OWR-2 viaduct going over all 8 RHW-4's with on/off ramps (1/2 diamonds). It means that it's harder for drivers but easier for me to build. Imagine all the ramps to each other highway! That's like over 50 ramps isn't it? So it handles traffic very well.

Will

P.S. Is there a OWR-1 to MIS transition? That would be a great! If there isn't one how could I get the NAM team to include one?

I don't think one was RUL'd in, but you can "make" one by placing the two starters next to each other. The paths will line up perfectly, and it should work.

In time, it might be added. When it will be added is yet to be determined.

I just made this hours after the new RHW was released. This is a primary freeway with an auxiliary route shooting off. I also have some collector lanes starting that head off the map into the region's city centre.

Could anybody tell me what it is called:

Well, if you remove all the MIS, what you'll have left is the RHW-4's forming a type of Directional-T Interchange (I call them DirT Interchanges; This one's actually a Semi-DirT.).

Having the MIS there connecting to another highway makes it a 4-way interchange, but how it's arranged makes it look parasitic, so the whole thing would be a "Parasitized" Semi-DirT Interchange.

And while I'm at it, I might as well describe a few different types of combined interchanges (and I just made this up on the spot, so don't quote me on this):

- Mitotic Interchange - Two like interchanges fused together, such as this odd example I found: bennington.gif

- Parasitized Interchange - Two interchanges in which one is connected to the other in a way that it hinders traffic flow, or looks confusing from the air.

- Symbiotic Interchange - Two different interchanges that are well connected to each other. It's different from a ParaChange in that the two interchanges rely on each other.

Thanks Ganaram DI. Yes it looks weird as it was originally a t-intersection but I thought it would be interesting to make it 4 way.

Are those RHW 6C overpasses? It seems you're with RHW 5.0.

Who isn't? And that's actually the L2 6S, not 6C. (Toy with the NAM for long enough and you can tell what's S and C; Besides, there's no Jeresy Barrier.)

@okaleldar: I see you copied the example I had, but made it in an antiweave setup... :whatevs:

I'd first need to know how's the status of the diagonal elevated/diagonal ground network draggability--that little bit makes RHW a huge hassle for me, so I keep pushing the Maxis highways to their max limit and still am satisfied with them.

@Rymac91: it seems your caffeine addiction has its side effects.
