well here is my best effort so far. need much more practice.

Good use of PS. I recommend getting a terrain mod though (textures, that is).

^Lovely! I'd like to see more big box stores along that route.

Don't worry! it's going to be littered with big box stores, chain fast food places, strip centers, and loads of parking lots! I'm building this city 'Houston' style.

Regrettably, I've never been to Houston (or Texas). I assume there will be lots of grassy open spaces too? :D

Loving those feeder roads there. I've got to try another Houston-style city sometime.

Not easy. Especially if you are like me and you don't like to bulldoze stuff.

That is an excellent reconfiguration; way to reduce the number of intersections!

Here's an update on my sandbox trumpet featured on a previous page:

int001.png

Reconfigured the residential terminus from a grossly over capacity TLA-6/RHW-6S/Road intersection to this.

int002.png

Overview of the corridor, also showing the DDI at the industrial terminus.  It's pretty ugly but it's good practice.  And sadly, I believe this piece of junk to be the largest population city I've ever built in SC4.   :lost:

    Hi all,

This is my first attempt at an interchange. Comments welcome. I know it's rather large but does it matter or should I make it a bit more compact?

Not a fan of quoting pictures, but for all the ramp work done on the left side of the interchange, it seems like the right side should at least get an extended (x-long) ramp transition instead of the short stumpy thing there now.

    Otherwise it's very nicely done!

Placing the onramp after the offramp is the norm in real life because that way, vehicles that leave and those that enter the speedway don't get into each others way like they do if it's the other way around. Those that get on the speedway in your case have very little time to clear the outer lane for traffic that wants to get off.

And I don't know, but it's not really one interchange but five individual ones, wouldn't you say? They all give full access on their own, they're just spread out. It looks large and very dense now but I think when there's development around it it's gonna fit well.

Point well made. It never dawned on me that entrances and exits so close to  each other would spell accidents and disastrous bottle necks. As you can see I have increased the distance between on and off ramps.

What type of road is that between the slip ramps and the avenue? Traffic is going one way off or on the highway, so only half of the capacity will be used if that's two way?

Also, sharp corners... Slamming on the brakes as you pull off a motorway, what about cars behind you? They're breaking ON the motorway. You'd struggle to get above 20mph on a corner like those. Flip side, getting onto the highway, less space to get up to speed. Wider curves, keep the momentum, better closing speeds.

Here's a semi T-Bone I created in a new region of mine; i built it because a) I wanted something more than a generic trumpet, and b) I wanted the highway at the left to curve to the south(The highway to the right ends to the east of this photo)

What an idiot I am. I meant to make the off and on ramp road a one-way system but forgot. I shyall get on it right away and the sharp bends as well. Thanks for the pointers.

As you can see I have adjusted the corners,  so the screeching of brakes shouldn't be a problem. I have also made the on/off ramps a one way system, this should increase traffic flow.

I'd get rid of the green grass field textures and just leave it as blank terrain. Plop some shrubbery and trees for a more realistic look, imo.

I took your advice and made a couple changes. To be honest, that short transition was bothering me too! So I used on slope pieces instead. Secondly I upgraded this entire freeway to add weave lanes using the new FA 8c ramp. Hopefully the end result is more realistic.Kindelton-Dec15241389971781_zps57f5ab0a.

The splitter ramp on the terminating highway looks like the perfect place to use the FARHW type F2 transition (or whatever it's called).  The one with the left lane exiting and the right two continuing at an angle would make more sense than two lanes left-exiting and then merging.

Very nice NTM! But I think the highway heading right from the bottom should be a B style transition. You have the space for it.

What would that look like, out of curiosity(Aka a photo would help)

I would have actually made 2 lanes curve over and connect to the left since that highway goes that way, however I only made it that way due to SimCity 4's limitations

What he meant is the other way around: two lanes going to the right and one lane going to the left, or straight ahead if you're just looking at the splitter piece. There is a piece like that in the FA-ramps tab cycle that splits an RHW-6 like that and I agree that it would look and flow a lot better.

I remade this old monster [LINK] into this new monster:

    fuuuuuuuckfixed_174.jpg

Unfortunately there's a bit of weaving, but that can't be helped since flexfly MIS ramps only accept MIS, RHW2 and RHW4 underneath them. To compensate I added collector lanes.

@ timmie: you always make such great use of tunnels and your interchanges are always so tight and compact! I need to work on getting better at that.

Heres a recent interchange that I reworked to fit in new ramps to an added freeway.

    Before:

    DosPlayas-May22171385914878_zps9bab6609.

    AfterDosPlayas-Mar21461390236443_zpsf58335f1.

Still adding frontage roads and possiblly move a few things to connect that N-S stretch of road.
