Brilliant terrain hand crafted regions look much better than greyscaled ones and take much more work. Bravo!

Trying to install on a Mac and when I download both files am unable to install. Any recommendations?

In game grayscale to region map rendering on a Mac is a little tricky, but it can be done.

See this topic: Can you still import greyscale regions? and especially the later replies there by @Cyclone Boom, @live_cows, and @MacBex with this last one being a recap from a Mac user's perspective for which hoops they had to jump thru.

I downloaded and saved this file using instructions I found in a howto on this site.  Had a bit of an issue with saving it to the Regions folder in the C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG\SimCity 4\Regions folder - when opening the game and trying to load the region, it didn't show up in the list.  After scratching my head a bit and having a banana, I figured out it had to be saved in \Documents\Gog\Simcity4\regions.

Once I figured this out the instructions provided worked right up until I tried to open the config file.  When I tried it said the file was the wrong size (16x16) when it should be much bigger... i forgot exactly how big, but it was 4 digits, no 2.

Any ideas?  I've seen the map in Rob's tutorials, and I liked it, so I would love to actually use it...

This seems a bit odd. It should be \Documents\SimCity 4\Regions, but the easy way to get the right folder and the region.ini file is to load the game, tell it you want to create a new region, name it Digby, and it'll create a random flat map for you. The game will also make the correct folder in \Documents\SimCity 4\Regions.

Next, exit the game, go to your File Explorer and copy in the config.bmp from this download (overwriting the one the game made) and then toss in the Digby.jpg from this download as well.

Now, back to the game in the region view you should still be on the new Digby region, but the city tiles layout will have changed to those it sees in the new config.bmp file.

At this point you'll be ready for the Shift+Ctrl+Alt+r command.

If there are still problems, I do have the completely rendered region zipped up and I could send that to you via a temporary hosting site.

yeah, I got the flat green map after getting the digby folder to show up.  Unfortunately when I use the key combo and show it the config file it says "File is too small (16x16), should be (1025x1025)" and refuses to do anything from there.  I've been trying to track down the Landscape editor mentioned in someone's fixit post for this issue, but I can't seem to find it.  You wouldn't believe how many different Landscape Designers there are out there... :(

I think I would like to try the zipped file thing... let me know the link and I'll give it a whirl!  Thanks!

Ah! Show it the Digby.jpg and all should be well. *;)

While I don't know exactly what they learned and did, you could scroll down to the part called First Render in my CORIMAPS Tutorial to get the general idea for in game rendering. (Complete with pics.)

If you are completely new to this sort of thing, I can empathize as I had lots of trouble when I first started with custom maps. *;)
