Must have Mods for Orion

Issues that have been plagued players since the game's release is now answered. Some says it is the holy grail of all mods. Some says this mod + buy game/reinstall. That's right, 3k extended border aka "bigger city".

Understanding the mechanics of Orion 3k Extended Boundary.

1. Upon entering 3k extended map. based on (Image #1), The 3k map extended on North and East. Use right click mouse button or middle mouse button to bring up the compass.

2. Regional Roads are needed to draw them outside 2k map. Such as Project Akar : UI Enhancements, that offers almost every roads available to be drawn outside 2k.

3. Regarding Land Value, please refer the image below. There a lot of misunderstanding as well as misconceptions about the land value data, that was viewed in the map data.

  • The Actual Land Value EFFECTS are still intact as they are. It does not resized regardless in or outside 2k. Believe it or not. It still the same. There are claims that users may have experiences getting different wealth RCI in certain unwanted areas. These confusions is only because  we can't determine the actual "spot" of land value throughout 3k extended border, and the data from the Land Value map seems false but not entirely false information. It was compressed 4:1
  • This also applied on Pollutions, Ground Pollutions, Futurizations etc.

4. Regarding Resources. Unlike Land Value/Pollutions etc That was compressed 4:1. All Resources are stretched 1:4, see Image #3 and #4 to get better understanding on them.

  • This 1:4 stretched map data also effects oil, water, coal and ore.

Lag and memory issues

Its common knowledge that lags or frame-rate drops are known for almost every game that pushes its limits unless the users has a high-end computers. It covers almost every aspect from 3D rendering, physics (engine), memory calculations that the game generates etc. Orion (3k Extended boundary) does not lag the game itself, only that the additional space it provides for users to built in and as the city developed and getting dense - it'll stress your computer hardware.

We cant blame the game for the lags, it just happen that once we push the game to its limit, we might as well be done with better hardware.

The Game's Limitations

1. All trees outside the default border cant be remove, because there is no tree, its a facade. Only way to remove them is to edit the region map files.

2. The game already provide its regional transit, from air to land and water. We can't add Maglevs/Subways/EL and Streetcars to work between two different city vice versa. Please "make do" with the given features of each city tiles carefully.

3. There's a limit count of how many roads/buildings that can be drawn/build per city tile

  • Roads : 1024
  • RCI : 2048
  • Base Buildings : 4096 (not yet confirmed)

Wow, amazing mod. Haha, so many grand mods all at ones. I especially love to follow the streetcars and buses all through the region. It's just like real. :)

Thank you sooo much XoXiDe!!

Thank you so much Oppie!!

Thank you so Much ProcsKalone!!

and thank you Yayie to reupload the files!

This project is awesome! Please, continue it, this is so promising!

All this time to improve the game and share it to the community, big up for you all!

I play SimCity since the beginning, and some bugs in the mods are completely forgiveable (I remember the numbers of crashes when I used to

put the tramway avenue in SC4 xD), regards to the time, the thinking of the project, the time to find solutions.... and all of that for free?

The community yet doesn't seem to account for all time spent in modding in general, and just that is precious.

BIG THANKS TO YOU THREE!

:D

PS: sorry for my english.... I'm... french... so ... languages....... :/

Not an example but, I installed the mod directly, I loaded a city I created yesterday, and NO PROBLEM, all is working fine!

I have plenty of mods installed and no bug revealed yet!

It's a real pleasure to see that we haven't hoped for nothing!

Clearly great job, by the best team!

Thank you again :D

Now that I have been using the mod for 24 hours, it is awesome, I cant thank you guys enough. I even managed to build on the other side of the freeway using skyes regional freeway to join it to the main city. Slight niggle with putting down police fire and medical near low wealth as it influences the area that gets converted to medium wealth more. I sorted that in the end by building them away. This is a completely different game now, for the better may I say. Once again THANKYOU.

Xoxide and the team make this happen, I just amaze how they figure out something like this to be made possible. Have fun. I haven't been able to play due to real life work that piling up out of nowhere. I have plans for other mods in near future. stay tune.

Hi All,

I think I have installed all 3 packages correctly and when follow instructions above I am successful at getting larger city borders, however is anyone else having troubles seeing the road icons in the roads menu for the new roads that come with the packages above. I have my normal SC2103 road icons, I also have about 12 or so icons with a question mark in a clear box (no picture included) then I have another lot of what appear to be the normal roads again. When I select and draw with anyone of the 12 icons with a question mark no picture all I get is a dirt road.

Are these meant to be the regional streets / regional UDon I am meant to be seeing and able to select.

If not what are they? And where can I find the regional streets and UDon.

Thanks for any help

Hi there, I think you have to install the actual UDoN mod which is not included with Orion. Then you will be able to see and use both the city and regional streets.

Hope it works for you!

@bobp that was kind of the idea.. we know as a group of people in devtest and working on all the community sites how much people wanted this even if it was not perfect.  So your welcome.  I have seen some pretty amazing stuff as a result even to the point where it surprised myself just how much more of a CITY these creations look like and they are function even if not perfect.

Its nice to see people enjoying the tools and mods and creating works of working art.  Really wish you would start posting your showcases so others can enjoy what you have created as well .. THATS TO EVERYONE not just you bobp :)

But your welcome.  Think the greatest gift to our work is to see the community come together and be somewhat upbeat and happy about the game again after such a long 1.5 year journey as I put it.

@Dvestris Yes you must install UDoN's first to use the paths.  Yayie I have asked him to add a link in this post with some notes so people realize they must have the mod loaded to be able to use the modified tools outside the normal 2k limits.

Can you tell me why I can't zone outside the 'original box' ?... What am I missing?

I think you need regional roads for that.

  • Yes you can zone residential, commercial, industrial outside, in one condition, you need connect the tile's original roads with the regional roads.

Can anyone explain to a semi-noob what this means, in more detail? Or explain like I'm five? I need to draw a road, using which road tools, from where to where? I seem to have everything connected up including multiple connections to the regional highway, but I cannot zone or plop anything besides BOC.

I can't get it to work..

Is it because I'm playing on cape trinity?

(EDIT)

Nope, just checked.

Its expanded the city boundary, I'm able to place roads from the Regional Streets Mod..

But then I can't place any zones or buildings on any strip of road outside of the default game box!!

It does not even show up on the map when I'm placing buildings that show the map in white with resources :(

Please help!!!!! I NEEEED this mod to work for me otherwise my city will fail miserably !! :(

Once you claim a city, you may get an avenue within the tile, which you'll get a message "draw a road from the highway". That avenue MUST be CONNECTED to the regional roads that stretched out from the default city tile in order to zone RCI buildings. Depending on the map tile you on, you may zone North and East or West and South or the other way around.

I'm not sure if this is intentional, probably a bug, but playing in a Cape Trinity city box (Clearwater) although the borders have increased the camera is fixed at a certain point and you can't move north. Moving south is fine.

Since when you guys released this mod I've been trying to install, but I can never even the original boundary of the city to expand!
I downloaded all the necessary mods (I'm sure of it)
I installed them all in the folder SimCityData
I enter the game, create the city, leave the game, restart the game, go into the city and nothing happens.
The city limit is unchanged.
What am I doing wrong?

Forgiveness for possible errors of English, I'm from Brazil.
