How to Install

  • Download files
  • Once download is complete, extract rar files. (right click > extract)
  • Simply copy and paste OFFLINE-ONLY_Project_Orion_3k_Extended_Boundary.package in C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\SimCity\SimCityData
  • Start SimCity > Play new map > Choose city tile > Save > Quit SimCity (not work if exit to Main Menu)
  • Re-Start SimCity > Resume Game
  • Wonders *:bunny:

Must have Mods for Orion

Issues that have been plagued players since the game's release is now answered. Some says it is the holy grail of all mods. Some says this mod + buy game/reinstall. That's right, 3k extended border aka "bigger city".
 


 

Understanding the mechanics of Orion 3k Extended Boundary.

1. Upon entering 3k extended map. based on (Image #1), The 3k map extended on North and East. Use right click mouse button or middle mouse button to bring up the compass.

2. Regional Roads are needed to draw them outside 2k map. Such as Project Akar : UI Enhancements, that offers almost every roads available to be drawn outside 2k.

3. Regarding Land Value, please refer the image below. There a lot of misunderstanding as well as misconceptions about the land value data, that was viewed in the map data.

  • The Actual Land Value EFFECTS are still intact as they are. It does not resized regardless in or outside 2k. Believe it or not. It still the same. There are claims that users may have experiences getting different wealth RCI in certain unwanted areas. These confusions is only because  we can't determine the actual "spot" of land value throughout 3k extended border, and the data from the Land Value map seems false but not entirely false information. It was compressed 4:1
  • This also applied on Pollutions, Ground Pollutions, Futurizations etc.

4. Regarding Resources. Unlike Land Value/Pollutions etc That was compressed 4:1. All Resources are stretched 1:4, see Image #3 and #4 to get better understanding on them.

  • This 1:4 stretched map data also effects oil, water, coal and ore.

 

Lag and memory issues

Its common knowledge that lags or frame-rate drops are known for almost every game that pushes its limits unless the users has a high-end computers. It covers almost every aspect from 3D rendering, physics (engine), memory calculations that the game generates etc. Orion (3k Extended boundary) does not lag the game itself, only that the additional space it provides for users to built in and as the city developed and getting dense - it'll stress your computer hardware.

We cant blame the game for the lags, it just happen that once we push the game to its limit, we might as well be done with better hardware.

The Game's Limitations

1. All trees outside the default border cant be remove, because there is no tree, its a facade. Only way to remove them is to edit the region map files.

2. The game already provide its regional transit, from air to land and water. We can't add Maglevs/Subways/EL and Streetcars to work between two different city vice versa. Please "make do" with the given features of each city tiles carefully.

3. There's a limit count of how many roads/buildings that can be drawn/build per city tile

  • Roads : 1024
  • RCI : 2048
  • Base Buildings : 4096 (not yet confirmed)

Hi all!

 

I've downloaded this mod and all the required/suggested mod and it works awesome. I have one question regarding the North/South/East/West thing. Is there a way to allow for plopping everywhere? Here is the screenshot of my city:

Due to the region layout, I could only build towards the right, but not on the top side. Is there a way for a mod to allow me to place plop objects everywhere? Since I can make roads, but not place anything on them.

 

Overall, 5/5 on the mod. Even with that limit, it's already made the game so much better for me. I just wish that when you switch cities you could still see all roads/objects properly, but it's possible to work around it so that's fine :)

 

For now that's what this mod could offer, perhaps we may see some changes in near future. Maybe...

I figured out how this mod works now. The camera is a bit funky lol but in order to zone outside the normal boundaries, you have to have RCI Plop mod. So you have to manually plop houses, commercial buidlings, etc from the Government menu. You can't use the normal house, commercial, industry zoning tools. I didn't know this.

 

Now I can make progress in my city lol. This is great!

Thanks for the answer (and for the mod) :) It's awesome as it is, it could only get better. Made me interested in SimCity again, haven't played it in months. It's amazing to see how modding community is developing. I hope it gets bigger as time goes by. It has huge potential. :)

every day I'm surprised at just how much you people use the tools that are created and inspire creativity.  Thank you for enjoying the mods and features.  That is a gift to us the modders.

 

We can make Plops work around the city.. but it would completely break zoning in the 2k original map period.

 

this was the only work around and compromise that solved that aspect.

 

we will continue to research more ideas for everyone trust.  This is just the beginning not the end of modding for 2013 and the community..

 

On the extended and regional roads we are trying to find a solution for raise and lower even if we can't do normal freeway external from city.. we would like to offer basic bridge support for clovers and other simple interchange ideas.

 

we need help from the community and more modders which will help with the projects and solutions.

 

I hope we can all start to enjoy the game more and the franchise as we lift more and more restrictions and offer new directions to how you can build your cities your way.

BTW you people have downloaded this mod more in 4 days than I have seen any mod download WOW.. I didn't expect that.. please make sure you enjoy udons and udon regional as we improve some aspects over time

Was just wondering if there was any plan to put UDoN and UDoN Regional into their own separate submenus/tabs? I keep forgetting which one I'm selecting :P     Thanks so much.

I've just reinstalled SimCity and try that mod and... amazing!

 

First a simple question: This mod will be compatible with every mod which can be used online, no? I've got some mods wich change textures like oppie's collection.

 

Next, the most upsetting issues that I've found:

- Regional streets and regional UDoN can't be tunneled or even bridged. They simply makes walls everywhere, even to cross rivers.

- Trees. I've got lots of troubles with trees. First of all, tree tools in parks-natural don't work, even inside original boundaries. No new trees, but also can't cut old ones also. If I build somewhat outside original borders, trees can be inside buildins, streets...

 

Thanks for this fantastical new experience!!

 

EDIT: Well, I've read all of comments and see that the tunnels and bridges are known issues.

 

Another one, cursor doesn't match with streets if you use regional ones.

Update on my region: two cities down, one to go. Using sandbox mode to quickly place everything and further test the mods.

Ignore the invisible roads. I loaded up the third city so I could take a borderless screenshot of the two other cities, hence some roads not showing.

 

I hope that one day modding of the game gets us so far we can actually build on the whole region without any limits. (one can dream, right?) :lol:

Would it be a lot of work to release a separate version (or a separate mod) that works like that? Of course, if it's not too complicated. I assume updating the mod would be a hassle but just wanted to ask :)

So my question is a little bit strange here.  I'm playing in Starlight fields.  I can use the regional road to get outside the city boundaries.  So far so good.  I can plop stuff outside that boundary (in my case, I plopped a few parks).   So far so good.  I can't figure out the zoning part.  I get the shadow that indicates I *could* zone there, but can't get it to zone.

 

In the download instructions, the plop RCI was implied to be optional (the instructions merely say it works with).

 

The instructions also seem to imply you can draw zones normally provided you meet the road and the two sides condition.  

 

Is there something else I'm missing please?

Use the RIC plop to plop buildings inside the 3k border for now. We will look on to the zoning part.

Further you get away from the city the further and or more difficult it is to place things correctly to the Z axis or cursor point of the draw and placement tools.

 

I have found TOP view as straight on as you can helps but its not always a guarantee

 

also maps in general play into the factors of the Z and offset of Z for that specific situation.

 

Bridge and Tunnel (mostly bridge) is something we are researching.

 

Placement of items into sub menus like re organizing all ROADS into to separate Buttons to make it easier to pick is a thought but also gets a little complicated when you think about subs on subs.

Zone offset is something I have mentioned already and the mapping of pollution, etcs as well. I doubt there will be a solution quickly for some of these issues since we really did release what we felt was the best we could offer at this time.  It may be months before MAJOR changes other than minor may be issued or released.. its kind of difficult to say for certain.

 

but none of this is over and it is just the beginning.  as I said we need more people involved and trying to help resolve the issues they find by focusing on specific things that interest them

 

to many projects not enough people to work on them.

Use the RIC plop to plop buildings inside the 3k border for now. We will look on to the zoning part.

 

 

I went and grabbed that mod and at least it gets me to dropping residential and stuff outside the "boundary".  Otherwise, Orion working as advertised for me.  Thanks to those who got this off the ground

not such a good mod so far, but the plopping down of induvidial rci buildings realy exited me! I hope all big mod makers and the makers of SC can make that as a new mod, but I hope when that happens the makers will focus them on new menues, so you can click first a kind of rci, than the wealthy, than the dence and finnaly the building, like the megatowers but than with more menues! I hope people will read this, share this and take this seriously!

It's working now, just tried to load another region besides the cape one and the border is now extended!

 

Really you guys did an awesome job with this awesome MOD! 
Normally i would run out of space with building in an hour or so, i've now spent 4 hours on 1 map :D

Land Value

 

it will be thrown off.. everything you plop and use that has an influence assigned to it will show up on your normal 2k city area so you must watch for that which will throw your normal 2k city area off completely

 

ground pollution, radiation and various things could happen in the normal city even if the event is WELL outside the boundary of the city.  Those values have to go somewhere and are kind of reflected back into the normal city.

 

Is everybody experiencing high/medium wealth development with no parks? I tried 3KORION on an existing city, don´t know if it´s due to that.

 

Xoxide, when you say it will be thrown off means we should expect land value out of place? Does it justify the random high wealth development? I know we´ve been warned this mod was still in observation, but in my opinion this land value weird behaviour (as the polution) is a bit of game killer to me. I mean, how will you be able to organize/manage your city?

I cant build in the areas where they extended the boundary and the camera doesn't go to the extended areas  which make sit hard with this build outside city mod I got when I tried to improvise.

I like this mod, but I have a problem here. I dont know if this has been mentioned before or if I am the only one with the problem, but It will not allow me to plant forrests. (Nature/50 simoleon plant forrest (the one with the green arrow pointing down). I remove the mod and it works again, put the mod back in and the forrest wont grow. The city is charged the ammount for the trees but they just dont grow.

you can plant trees, it just offset from your current mouse pointer.

 

I cant build in the areas where they extended the boundary and the camera doesn't go to the extended areas  which make sit hard with this build outside city mod I got when I tried to improvise.

 

Settings > Gameplay > Planning Mode Camera (checked) and this mod helps as well.

ii've decided to shelf this mod, until I can zone outside of the normal box, because as it stands, zoning is not possible, making it kind of well useless in my opinion and the fact that the ground pollution is offset, destroying water tables underneath..if these 2 things are fixed then great..as an added incentive, i'll make a small donation to this site if these things are fixed.

there is this annoying issue that is the most important to me until now : the auto leveling of terrain does not work outside the city limit, often i see streets with trees on them or you can't see the parking spaces of the buildings, is there any way to fix this?!
