About This File

FREE Roads and FREE Road Upgrades!
Those of us who would like endless road building. Here is unlimited costs. You could start designing your city right from the start.

Features:
- Everything Associated with Road Building is now 100% Free. I went through all of the road costs, and changed all their values to 0.
- There should be no costs when building roads with v1.8
- Works with Futurized roads too! (added picture)
- Should be compatible with existing road mods (as this only changes the cost of the roads)
- TUNNELS, BRIDGES and  ARCH-BRIDGES are also free.

- Streetcar Tracks and Train/Rail tracks are also free

How to Install: (Easy)
1. Unzip the downloaded file.
2. Copy and paste the Mod-idealcastle-FREERoad.package file into C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\SimCity\SimCityData

NOTE: sometimes a new "region" will not register the free road cost. Once you restart SimCity it should work perfectly. Existing cities/regions should be good without restart.
If roads require costs, please restart SimCity, this only happens once you create a new region. (might be a Maxis issue, where you create a new region and they use the server script instead, but once restarted, you are good to go!)

Have an older version?
- Please delete that, download and replace with the most current.
- Version 1.7 has fixed the zoning bug, and with 1.8, every cost for roads have been set to $0

Any issues, concerns, comments please let me know. This should not affect other road mods, as this only modifies costs.
Thanks everyone!

Why don't I just play in sandbox mode then... one of the objects of the simulation is to manage a budget.

That is very true. I mainly did this to increase costs, which I'm releasing a mod for that as well. to make the game more challenging. Thought some would want to have unlimited road building.

And one of the objects of modding is to change the rules of the simulation to ones wishes. This mod is somewhat similar to the money cheat Maxis introduced in Single Player non-sandbox games. Changing to sandbox mode changes more than just budgetting.

I can see why someone would want this mod (and I might use it myself sometimes), so I applaud and thank the creator for it.

This is obvious a cheat, like a few others in this game and Simcity 4. Why ask such a stupid question?

This is good for testing road builds. I can easily spend a million sim messing around with avenues.

And will this mod prevent roads from futurizing?

Good question. I just tested it out. it will work perfectly with future roads. It only changes costs for the road. So the mod itself shouldn't affect anything about the actual road scripts.

I'm so thankful you have created those innovation. One of my cities currently reached very low profit. Due to severe earthquake, I lost my main production facility - I must  rebuild them. (Therefore, I'm  happy if I can save those expenses in these moments. )

Greatest thanks onto you, I really appreciate your work. :)

This lets you plan out your city at the beginning without playing sandbox and all that mode entails.

please ped path bridges :)

are you using a mod? ped paths that are included with university/service roads are always free and do not allow you to do bridges. The new update 1.8, I went through all road instances, and remove every cost assoicated with roads. So re-download the new version, restart simcity and try again. If you're using a mod that includes the cost in its scripts. It may override mine. PM me if you need any help, I can look at what you have. Thanks!

...But thanks for the mod. :)

Can you please explain what you mean "you cant cut back on road funding?"

This works great for new and existing regions/cities. Once you remove the mod, the road prices come back. If you add the mod, the road prices become free.

If you create a new region, you may need to restart simcity for it to take affect, but once restarted you are good to go.

The mod is in fact you "can cut back on road funding", If you have found a bug please PM me so I can investigate, thank you.

What happened to the expensive road mod?

I wanted to further this mod before I got into that one. I might bring that back soon.

Uhh, I was actually just making a joke by making a reference to the Transit Advisor in SimCity 2000 (since my profile picture is his picture). Whenever you lowered the roads & transportation budget below the default level, he would yell at you like that. See this: http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/you-cant-cut-back-on-funding-you-will-regret-this

I'm sorry if I caused a misunderstanding. I haven't tried out your mod yet, but it seems like a useful tool to test new road layouts, etc. So again, thanks for creating it!

Oh okay. thank you. Sorry I didn't get the joke ;)

I haven't seen that version of simcity in a very long time, I remember the version of Simcity 2000 that was on playstation 1 I believe.

Could you fix the problem, that i have to restart SimCity alway when beginning a new city?

It should work with new cities, its once you create a new region, you'll need to restart, cause even if you play a new city in an existing region, (after you've created a new region) it carries over, I'm still looking into the restart, Ive already asked MaxisG about it, it look like it could be something I may not be able to control, but I will inform you once I do find a fix. I'll run some more testing and see what I can do.

I LOVE this mod. I'm a picky and precise road builder, and I would literally spend thousands just trying to get my roads "right". So this is really appreciated.

However, the road mod of my dreams would be:

Reduced cost for Large Avenue - 17 and Tram Avenue - 20. Reduced upgrade costs for those two as well. Free roads for Dirt, Low Density, Med Ave. and Train Tracks (for easier planning), normal costs/upgrade costs for all other roads/tracks/etc.

Was working fine.  Through several installs.  This last one though.  I installed as usual, had to restart the game, and I got the Free Roads. BUT This time, when I went to other cities in the region, the roads were NOT FREE.  Evenafter reloading the game several times.

Ok, interesting.  I started a new region in offline, went in, had to start it over, and gor Free Roads.  Then I claimed another region, and the roads were free!  Now, what I did not mention, when I started the previous game, I CLAIMED ALL of the cities up front during creation.  In the second one I did not.  So maybe that is where the bug is!

I keep getting rollbacks in online multiplayer mode. If I choose to rollback, all the money I saved disappears cause the game recaculates what I've spent on roads. Is this mod online compatible?
