Pffft, now I have to update this? Who said I wanted higher quality anyways? Nofunk quality speaks for itself.

But in all seriousness, great job. ;)

I am a satisfied user of the original. Now I will use this one as well. Nofunk shows everybody that you should release your work without worrying too much about not being perfect, as you always have the chance to revisit your work and re-release them later. :ohyes:

I've been building my government centers around this buildings since it came out, so it's great to have an updated version of it. :)

The original BAT represented our abilities at the time, and it was even released a few months after we intended because we wanted it to be done right. DarkNite wasn't really around at the time so there was only a MaxisNite version, and since I still have all the files I did a quick re-export and updated my original texture/materials job while I was at it, with the benefit of hindsight and improved knowledge. It wasn't perfect the first time around (and still isn't of course), but we tried, and we created it with the opposite philosophy as the one you're promoting.

Oh, and speaking of that so-called "philosophy" (for Jason kindly called it with a name i honestly don't think it deserves), it would be interesting to know that perhaps rushing an upload and then taking time to correct it would probably require as much time - if not more! - to simply do it as good as possible the first time...

Sorry to bring my 'philosophy' to these comments. I am not at all a fan of rushing uploads. In fact, I was highly critical of Thai Bat team for that. I am just appealing to the capable uploaders who can churn out quality bats, not to worry about their work not being perfect. It was just an afterthought after knowing an astounding number of quality bats never make it to the STEX for whatever reason, but it seems people took my comments completely the wrong way whether on STEX or under the discussion threads.

I am glad that Jasoncw/NoFunk are perfectionist, and they are capable to perfect their bats given the available resources/technology at the time of their initial release, then later on further 'enhance' such perfection when new knowledge are available, allowing them to make further versions like this one. It is indeed a different yet also very successful 'philosophy'.

Somehow the latter philosophy can be intimidating to many other quality uploaders, and that is what I am worried about. I appeal to those people to just relax and release their work, because even if they are not going to win trixies, their work are still important, useful and appreciated. Hopefully some of their 'unfinished' yet quality work will still be 'rushed' out eventually.

People might (in theory) follow your advice, and update stuff as they get more and more skilled...but this doesn't happen very often, as i'm sure you can see...it all relies on a BATer's dedication, and it often happens only on extraordinary circumstances, like when some events or later upgrades might make a BAT look completely outdated...
please think about how many people keep updating their stuff, and then ask yourself why.

Also, your theory might work if the majority of BATs that don't' get released aren't released because of overperfectionism...but it's only one reason among many, and not even the most important.
Rendering troubles, HD and scene corruptions, lack of time to finish things (finish them, not make them perfect), real life, life changes might be as much as important reasons...

If you pay attention to some of the bat threads, many people give various directions, lots of feedback to help the uploader 'perfect' their work, to the point that it became too unbearable, because what is ideal/perfect differs among people. But I do agree that there are many reasons why the uploader decide to abandon a project. Afterall it is their choice to finish or not. Regardless, it is just a shame that lots of work will never see the light of day.

And, if you follow those same BAT threads, you might also notice that the vast majority of those BATs end up being released...

Vast majority of those BATS ended up being released? How certain is your claim? Why not you visit https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/topic/39272-the-ones-that-never-made-it-to-stex/ ? Moreover, that board did not even cover all the unfinished ones.

It would be nice to put what you read into a context...that thread includes BATs from 2007/2008 (if not earlier) to 2011...if you want to have a fair and objective comparison, you should compare them to the amount of (quality) BATs released in that timeframe...if you look at 2011 non released BATs, you should compare them with 2011 releadsed BATs and so on.

You will probably see that the ratio between unreleased and released stuff is not as bad as you think.

Speaking of that thread, and of your considerations about public feedback, did you ever care to check wheter public feedback was the cause that prevented them from being released?

Those bats include ones also from prior to 2007. The ratio between unreleased and released stuff is extremely high on certain uploaders, but there is no need to name names, nor it is their obligation to release their work. Public feedback certainly can also add pressure to the uploader, and so as the quality of work from other experts, but there is no way we will ever know. I think this discussion has gone too far. I do not want to hijack the comments here. We should just agree to disagree. I will not reply any further beyond. Apologies to Nofunk/Jasoncw for over off-topic.

I agree, there's no way to have a good knowledge of the true reasons...and therefore it's not a good idea to build theories over that.

Discussion ended. My apologies to the uploaders.

This is great, the only thing that disappointed me was even though it's a reward, it doesn't have to benefits of a court house. So little bummed when I unlocked it... but it still looks great and fits in well in a big downtown.
