About This File

Hello folks, DanniBee here.

Well, this is it, my first ever BAT.

Based off a small industrial unit found on any generic UK industrial estate, It's a real building that services diesel car engines and such. Has some lovely nightlighting thanks to Xyloxadoria who rendered this from Sketchup into GMAX for me! :thumb:

If i have to say something, its that the windows look a bit... clean. And flat.

Always good to have more non maxis growables that are well done, nice work.

Great work, especially for Sketchup. I've experienced similar issues first hand too, as I also use Sketchup. Excellent job on this!

Oh my, with some more experience and maybe some help, we might see some great BATs from you one day. ;) Not bad at all for a first.

I agree with the others, this is a very commendable effort and a good first upload! The shape looks very realistic and well rendered, the lot makes a realistic impression, and it is a useful and versatile building. The textures could use some refinement (e.g. weathering effects), but that will come with experience and practice.

Two suggestions / comments:
- "you can find it under 'Lucas Motor Works', or something similar." - There is no need to guess; the exemplar name contained in the building exemplar (which, in turn, is usually to be found in the .sc4desc file) will be the exact name of this bat in the building list. ;)
- You could consolidate dependencies a bit. There's actually not that much going on on the lot (which is not a bad thing because it's realistic!) Let's go through the dependencies, shall we?
+ Mikeseith Euro cars: you could simply use two Maxis car prop families (0000003D, IIRC). These will make for randomly appearing cars during daytime (when people work in the facility), and if a player uses a car replacement mod, he will see mikeseith's Euro car's or those 1960's US cars or whatever he likes.
+ LRM prop pack 2: Possibly a "false alarm". I recommend to use a tidy (=empty) plugins folder when making lots. If you did use a streetlight prop, is it that much better than the Maxis streetlights so that an additional dependency is worth it?
+ BSC Mega Props Misc: I really don't see where this was used. Is it the hedge in front of the building? Wouldn't some Maxis shrubs have done the trick?
+ BSC Mega Props JES Vol.01: Good choice! I see you used the chainlink fences. There's more very useful industrial stuff in there. You could have ditched the other three dependencies, though - at least IMO.
Of course, it's your "baby" and hence, your choice. I just thought I'd throw in my thoughts for you to consider or ignore as you like. ;)

Please keep it up, more industrial stuff is always appreciated!

Thanks for the advice :golly:
I didn't know of half these things seeing as this is my first time having a go; I have no idea where to actually find half of the Maxis stuff, so thank you very much.

As for the euro cars, I was looking for the families somewhere but I couldn't find them, so this has been noted down and I will use these in the future.
And the streetlight is a bit too much as well, I shall use an empty plugins folder in the future :whatevs:
I have been trying to download 3ds Max ( Student Version) so I can refine things for the game, and I agree with you on the textures. They could look more grimy, but I'm not sure how to edit them to be the right size, that will come with time I suppose. It was made in Sketchup as well, so that's why it looks quite clean. Thanks for your advice though :golly:

You're welcome. :)

Of course you can't know many things when you start. When I made my first lots, I didn't even know what a prop family is, let alone where to find suitable ones.

Some very useful and versatile prop families are:
4a - 4e (shrubs, bushes, flowers)
50 & 51; 77 & 78 (large and small trees, respectively)
0F (car clusters, night - for residential)
3D (car clusters, day - for com & ind)
38 (indivdual cars)
21 (boxes - great for com & ind)
01, 05, 08, 0D, 14, 1F (various sized stuff for residential backyards

After placing one, you can select it and press [N] to rotate through them and see what they contain.

If you are in search for something particular, feel free to ask in your BAT thread - someone might know just where to find what you're looking for, and some props really have elusive names.

Just take your time & take it easy - all that knowledge will come soon enough. :)

Btw, Good lucking getting your hands on 3dsmax! :thumb:
