About This File

Double rail Train Station.

Lot size: 2x2

Running Cost: 25

Construction cost: 5,000

Demolition cost: 2,000

Capacity: 10,000

Power use: 61

Water use: None

A few notes:

No Dependents

Capacity is based off of real life trains. I am not going to go into details but the number is way more then fair.

I had done up night lights in G-max when designing this station but for some reason they don't work in the game, at least not for me anyways. So if they do for you please leave a message and let me know that they did for you.

I had the lights working in G-max when I did a preview render so I know they should work. I was very disappointed because it took me a long time to figure out how to get the lighting to look right.

Any ideas on how I can make the next station look better or what may be my problem with the lights not working for me would be appreciated.

Enjoy.

Just simple, nothing complicated. That's nice, just only the basic: a Train Station. Nice job.

This looks great, I wish there was a way for the passengers to get to the middle station from the street

On the next larger train station I am going to work on incorporating cross bridge but for this one the people will just need to walk over top the tracks to get to the middle.

I would like to be able to find out though why my lights don't seem to function for me first and to see if they do for anyone else.

nice one, any chance to get a version with longer platforms? 6-7 tiles would be nice!

Not bad, nondescript suburban stations can always be useful! :) Due to its dimensions and layout, though (passengers need to walk over the tracks), I think that it might be even more realistic as a GLR station.

I must confess that those light poles don't really convince me. I think that A) you could get rid of some because there are just too many, B) they shouldn't be standing right at the edge of the platform, where the space will be needed for passengers to get on and off the train, and C) a more metal-ish texture will help them stand out a bit more. Could it be that gmax swallowed some textures in the render, anyway? It sometimes does that.

You could also use a different colour for the benches, and maybe get rid of a few of them as well.

Do you have a BAT thread? If not, you should really consider opening one. Then people could comment on your work and give suggestions and help before you upload.

please upload a picture of the station and not just the rails :) thanks :)

That is the station - it's a 2x2 rail station, just platforms on the tracks.

Thank you all so very much for the suggestions I will most certainly take them into consideration in my next larger railway station I plan on putting out for later this week. About having a BAT thread, I do not have one. I can always get opinions from you guys when it's done and then make a V2 when I have the time to do so.

I have on-board graphics so it takes me a while to make these mods. In part it's why I stick to the smaller ones. I also have it sometimes where G-Max strips textures right off of some of my objects when rendering and there is nothing I can do about it. In this instance no matter what it would strip the texture off the platforms or if that's not the case it changed the shading on it. (Not my fault.)

I will consider a different lighting arrangement for the next station as I have to agree maybe those poles where not the best choice.

Erm... no offense, but that sounds like "Oh, why should I bother asking for advice how to cook my meal? I can always just get going, and when it's burned, I'll cook it a second time." STEX comments are meant to be just that: comments on the BAT. Complex discussions should be led in the forums.

Isn't that just one more reason to learn how to get things right the first time? ;)

Yes, you can. If you had presented the problem in a BAT thread, you would know the answer by now. You're not the first one who experiences the problem, and those who have encountered and remedied it before you can help you to get rid of it.

Of course it's not your fault, but you could do something about it instead of just accepting it as a God-given fact. Noticing the problem, noticing that it is indeed a problem and not just the way it should be, and asking is always a good first step. ;)

But you still did not say how to resolve the problem. It would be nice to know. Please tell me how to do so. Thanks.

Yeah this station is great mostly because of its simplicity. I might suggest making the lampposts a smidge smaller on your next station ... turning this project into a modular set kinda like MayorDylanThomas' http://tinyurl.com/3vzabto

His is great but feels too modern for me. I like that your's feels very turn of the century ... plus yours looks great mixed in with the SFBT cummuter stations.
Just a thought ... but again, great work!

If you just run a road cross the tracks, then passengers have a way to the middle platform. it has steps to the side...

If you view a tread I started for my next edition of train station you will see there are great changes coming for my next release
https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/topic/43966-need-advise-with-new-train-station-lighting/

I am sure this will go over well with everyone here. It will have a capacity of 30,000 people and be 2x6 with two rail lines. But first things first, I got to figure out how to add some lighting to it that will be better then this one.

First thing should be making it so people can actually board the trains without walking across train tracks.

Hey great job love your station. I just have one question. Which sides of the station do people get on and off at? I know it is a silly question, its just the arrow points at the tracks. Is the answer A, B, or Both?
(A)
(B)====(B)
(B)====(B)
(A)

The Letter (A) is meant to be over and under the track
