About This File

The Modular Railyard System (MRyS) is designed to allow users to construct Freight Railyards of various sizes and layouts. (Future expansion sets may accommodate Passenger Maintenance Yards and various Industrial Rail Spurs and sidings).

In this set are 14 Transit Enabled start sections which function as freight rail stations and 24 expansion/end/joiner/divider sections that are used to complete the railyards.

These expansion sections are Dirty Industrial Lots that provide jobs, while the start sections increase job demand and handle the freight capacities for the expansion sections only.

Special note: This package is not intended to function as a Freight Station, but to simulate the function of a large railyard. The start sections should act as the freight stations for the expansion sections only. [-further experimentation and updates will improve this function, but for now, consider this package to be the final beta.]

Please make all suggestions for improvement in the support threads listed at the bottom of this description.

The Railyard components are further categorized into small(24 tile start section), medium(32 tile start section), and large(48 tile start section). Even though the small yard section is relatively large on the game maps, please keep in mind that real-life Railyards are, by their very nature, very large real estate hungry enterprises. Anything smaller, is just a freight station or siding.

Although I used jestarr's rolling stock to populate the yard sections, you can use the LotEditor to replace it with any rolling stock you want. There are other freight cars available on the STEX, and off-site exchanges such as Gizmo's.

The idea for a 'modular' railyard system was originally proposed in NCD's support thread "Of Railyards and Steelmills". Later, Frankie_Grove and aleking got together to discuss the prospect of creating a Modular Railyard System that would enable the user to make different size railyards from component Lots. I showed them some of my research and was invited to come up with a 'Basic' design for the project. Using the Railyard and Spur textures I had originally designed for similar projects, and a set of custom menu icons, I present this Modular Railyard System or 'MRyS'.

This project is dedicated to my friend op4 for all of his encouragement and support on BLaM and Simtropolis, without which I would have given up contributing to the STEX a long time ago. Thank You Mike!

The dependencies or plug-ins required for this set are:

(the main textures used in the railyards-designed by me)
Railyard Texture Mega-Pack Vol 1.dat -- https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/15976-rail-yard-and-spur-textures-mega-pack-1/

Or if you are a RRW user - RealRailway (RRW) NCD BSC Texture pack Update

Bailey Yard.dat -included
(the rolling stock-realistic looking freight rail cars.)

BSC Mega Props - JES Vol01 -- https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=342
(assorted railroad signaling devices)

BSC MEGA Props - DAE Vol01.dat - https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=475

Yes, I still play SC4 and I have a question... I've been trying to get this Railyard system to work as freight station but the industry won't use it even if it is the only means of transportation. The rail system has neighbor connections, road connection and is located right next to industry. What am I doing wrong? Aren't the railyards supposed to work as freight stations?

You can fix the dependency problem by downloading:
http://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/15976-rail-yard-and-spur-textures-mega-pack-1/

(it is Railyard Texture Mega-Pack Vol 1.dat not version 1.02)

Good lot but with RRW on the NAM I rather be downloading lots with RRW textures

Uh Huh. D'ld whatever you want, but I helped build those too. The Modular Railyard System was released in 2006, RAM and the following NAM updates (to which I contributed many of the original rail textures and is/was a member of the NAM team, -see below) came much later. RAM was a drag and drop single and multiple track rail transit system which later became a standard part of the current NAM. RRW was added much much later.

Hello North Country Dude or (NCD)

In light of the RealRailway I would like to propose a collaborative effort to make a RRW compatible texture pack for freight and other textures. This would cover the content that you have created in your Railways mega texture pack with some other extras, which I must admit is an excellent piece of work.

My texture range is from "0xF7FC0000 to 0xF7FFFFFF" which can be used to create a duplicate of your existing texture pack.

Since the RRW will be the main focus for the NAM team as opposed to maxis Rail I propose that I can use the BSC range that I have to create a set of textures for the RRW.

What do you think. I think that the wider community would be interested in a RRW texture pack. Then a repertoire of RRW compatible lots can be created.

Thank you for reading this and I hope that we can work together soon!

This package is not a single lot, but 38 "modular" lots designed for users to build railyards in various configurations and sizes. The title says it all, a Modular Railyard System.
