About This File

Three acres of potatoes were the seed for the first Scheels store back in 1902.Frederick A. Scheel, a German immigrant, used the $300 he earned from that first harvest of potatoes as the down payment on the first Scheels, a small hardware and general merchandise store, in Sabin, Minnesota.

Over the years Scheels opened stores in communities surrounding Sabin, including Fargo, ND, where Scheels Corporate Office is now located.

Scheels' first All Sports Superstore opened in Grand Forks, ND in 1989. Today Scheels All Sports is now a 22 store operation with stores in 7 states including North Dakota, Iowa, South Dakota, Montana, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Nebraska.

Awesome, I got the pleasure to visit a Scheels in Omaha this summer, and was pleasently suprised by its enormity. Very ironic to see one out for the game now. How about an REI or L.L. Bean to go along with it, their main branches are quite interesting buildings, especially the former.
