Just a note regarding some issues as a result of changes made over time. The links in the Readme are for older files and need updated. Also, there is an issue with trying to use this version with the newer version that is available on the LEX. Efforts are being made to address both of these. For ease of use, it might be more convenient to use the newer version from the LEX at this time.

The updated version has been uploaded. It runs on different IDs as the LEX version, so they are no longer conflicting. Please read the changelog for more details.

About This File

This is version 2 of the highly successful Newman Inc Coal Mine bycitynut and the BSC. The original lot was good, this one's better. Themajor changes are:

- The lot now uses PEG's new streams and props, so the lot can join seamlessly with streams

- The lot acts as a self sufficient power source. It generates enough power to supply a small town of a few thousand people

- It has significantly more jobs.

This lot has undergone significant testing and will successfully starta city and sustain it to over 2,500 people. Note that the lot will notgenerate water. You will need to use another water source (such as the BSC Forest Water Tower).

Please see the readme file for all details of the changes, detailed installation instructions, lot specs and some notes on how to use thelot to start a city.

Installation Instructions

Copy/extract the BSC parent folder into your Plugins. If you extracted the _Documents folder into you plugins too, it's highly recommended to keep it, but move it out of the Plugins folder.
Assuming you didn't change the install location the files will be in:

  • The .SC4Lot, .SC4Model and .SC4Desc and .dat files will be in
    My Documents\SimCity 4\Plugins\BSC\Newman Inc\Newman Inc Coal Mine v2/ BSC_NewmanIncCoalMine_2.1.dat
  • The readme (this file) and lot pictures will be in
    _Documents/BSC_Readmes/Newman Inc

Note that if you have already installed the older version of this lot, you must go through your Plugins folders and remove the following files. Make sure you remove/bulldoze all the Coal Mines from any cities where you might have used, before you remove these files:
- BSC_NewmanIncCoalMine_1_ae549783.SC4Lot
- BSC_NewmanIncCoalMine_2_4ebf9d2f.SC4Lot
- BSC_NICM_Textures.dat
- BSC_NICM_Props.dat
as these files have changed with the new release. Make sure you remove the Coal Mine from any cities before you do this, or the city might not load.

If you have downloaded the original version of this lot ("Newman Inc Coal Mine") you will need to remove some files (the original lot file, and the props & texturesfiles). See the readme for details.

Released

Updates v2.1 (2023)

The original v2 lot is an ancient creation, it was released in 2004 on STEX. Recent interest towards the upload requested the update of the dependency list and since the modding techniques evolved in the past 18-19 years, it required updates on the modding too. Back in 2009 CityNut and the BSC Team released a new V3 version of the lot on SC4Devotion LEX, where they fixed many of the issues, but in the maintime they heavily changed some of the characteristics of the lot itself (more precisely they replaced the PEG related prop sets to prop sets coming from Diggis - streams - and CP - cars and trees.), however the v2 version stayed available on STEX. One of the mayor issues is, that while the new version got a nice technical and aesthetical update it kept the instance IDs of the original LOT, LotConfig exemplar and Buliding exemplar, and until now there were two conflicting lot version available, which have different prop sets, modding and slightly different purposes.

To fix this conflict the following changes have been made for version 2.1:

  • The lot and the relevant exemplars have got new Instance IDs, the main reason of the revision of this lot under a new ID was to restore the original compatibility option with the PEG Stream and tree props sets, while the version 3 (released on SC4 Devotion LEX in 2009) provides the compatibility option with the Diggis Stream and CP tree prop sets.
  • The modding got technical updates, similar to the ones that the version 3 (2009) has. The building exemplar has been cleaned up from unnecessary properties, the stats have been adjusted to more or less match with modding done by SC4 PIM-X. The lot is still a REWARD (there isn't any plopping condition), but it also provides medium wealth I-D$$ jobs. There are now significantly more jobs (more than in v3) to really get a small city growing.
  • The Transit Enabling has been fixed with proper transit switches, capacity and TSEC, also the lot now functions as freight rail station (however it won't show up in the rail menu, it still can be found in the REWARD menu), but it also allows passenger trains to pass through on the lot without stopping.
  • For the original v2 the water source support was still not available, but by v3 this problem had been solved by the BSC Team. This new v2.1 version also enables this function, so the lot now able to work as water source.
  • The lot still acts as a self-sufficient power source. It generates enough power to supply a small city of a few thousand people, however the capacity has been increased a bit.
  • The lotting has NOT been changed (except the removal of an ancient unknown prop reference - it was probably an earlier version of the used parking carclusters).
  • The upload generally has been cleaned up from outdated prop and texture files, as many of those additional included files have been compiled into mega prop packs and texture packs in the past 18 years (see the revisited dependency list below). The old installer has been removed as well.
  • The custom query UI file has been fixed.
