April 6, 2006 Population: 5,123 Throughout the years, growth and prosperity have reined supreme among the communities of Kanin Fjord. The facade of financial opportunity is only skin deep, however. Beneath the surface, a clash of Titans is brewing. Conflicting ideologies and political aspirations began to leak through the veneer, and clouds started to appear in the silver lining, threatening the dissolve the financial glue holding the region together. A Clash of Religious Ideologies By 2006, approximately 40% of the region’s population followed Norse beliefs, while almost 50% followed some form of Christianity. Norse believers are concentrated in the old village, while Christians were commonplace in New Kanin Fjord and Nolborg. For centuries there had always been a truce between the two sides; however, rapid immigration into the region was threatening to change that. Despite the truce, both sides never really trusted one another. Christian’s viewed Norse followers as unclean Pagans and witches, while Norse followers had resentment against Christian’s conversion attempts, feeling that all Christian’s wanted to do was assimilate them and oppress their faith. As a result, a sort of unofficial segregation was forming between the two towns, with members of each holding a disdain for one another. After the construction of Kaninfjorden Church just to the north of New Kanin Fjord in 2005, the church’s leaders encouraged members to try and convert the local Norse population. This just added fuel to a smoldering fire. By early 2006, resentment among both sides was starting to boil over, even to the point of where it was starting to affect local commerce and even posed the unimaginable threat of violence. Tensions reaching a tipping point on February 25, 2006, when the old village’s only church was set ablaze overnight. Fortunately, the fire was put out quickly, and no one was injured. Still, this was the town’s first documented arson. Over the next few days, small protests erupted in New Kanin Fjord over the fire. The protests eventually ended after 3 days without any incident, but the agitation between members of both beliefs still remains high. In response to the fire and subsequent protests, town leaders began enacting laws to discourage another such occurrence. The local police force was increased in size by 50%, ordinances were passed limiting areas that Christians could canvass for conversion, and religious activities (both Norse and Christian) were banned from occurring in public spaces without a permit. While the new laws did little to quench the animosity between either side, at least the laws did send the message that the government would not tolerate any type of religious violence and would take necessary steps to ensure peace. Governmental Consolidation New Kanin Fjord has overtaken Kanin Fjord as the most populous town in the Kanin Fjord micropolitan area. As of April 6, 2006, the municipal limits of Kanin Fjord contain a population of 2,239 and New Kanin Fjord has a population of 2,360. Still, neither town has an official city hall, and local resources are unevenly divided between the two towns. Kanin Fjord has the major shipping ports, while New Kanin Fjord has a productive industrial sector and direct access to the railroad. On April 1, 2006, government and business leaders from both towns along with representatives from the Norwegian government met to discuss the future of the region. While negotiations are still ongoing, the following key issues are being discussed: Consolidation of the two towns into a single governing body with each town being designated as a subdistrict. Sharing of tax revenue. This includes possible income and sales tax increases. Final location for a city hall. Construction of an automotive bridge across Hjortfjorden. Financing an upgrade to Kanin Fjord’s South Port. Creation of a local bus service. Formation of a planning and zoning council that will manage future residential commercial, and industrial expansion to the town. Deliberations are not expected to be complete for several months, and any terms agreed to could still subject to approval by voters. Sea Monster Sightings In recent months, several citizens and fisherman have been reporting sightings of a large and strange creature in Ekorn Fjord, a small inlet branching off of Hjortfjorden. The creature has been described as being grayish green in color, roughly 15 to 20 feet long, with most of the body being beneath the waves, and a single large hump visible several feet above the waterline. In total, 14 sighting have been reported. Local officials are denying the existence of any monster in Ekorn Fjord and are attributing the sightings to misidentification of natural phenomena. Floating logs are being attributed to most of the sightings. Additional explanations also include a small whale or large pinniped that may have swum into the fjord. Of course, no one has a photograph of what they saw, and the sightings are adding intrigue to local Norse legends. Kaninfjorden Church Local Norse Temple Aerial view of New Kanin Fjord New Kanin Fjord viewed from the bay. New Kanin Fjord Coastline New industrial development along the waterfront Industrial Pier Grain storage, loading, and processing facility. Gravel and concrete processing plant. Large complex of mid-rise apartment and condominium buildings, providing higher density housing along the waterfront. Several docks and a boat ramp are constructed to provide citizens with access to the fjord. A unique courtyard allows only for pedestrian and bicycle traffic. Small soccer field, several playgrounds, and the courtyard. Roundabout located at the intersection of Verkstedbakken, Kvaløyvegen, and Fylkesvei 245. Heading West on Fylkesvei 245. Heading East on Fylkesvei 245. Kvaløyvegen Exit Part of the bay bridge. (Yet to be named) Entrance to the bridge over the bay.

Preview Pic Texture: Missouri Breaks About: The Peoples Temple Agricultural Project, better known by its informal name "Jonestown", was a remote settlement established by the Peoples Temple, a cult under the leadership of Jim Jones, in northwestern Guyana. It became internationally known when, on November 18, 1978, a total of 918 people died in the settlement, at the nearby airstrip in Port Kaituma, and at a Temple-run building in Georgetown, Guyana's capital city. The name of the settlement became synonymous with the incidents at those locations. In total, 909 individuals died in Jonestown, all but two from apparent cyanide poisoning, in an event termed "revolutionary suicide" by Jones and some Peoples Temple members on an audio tape of the event, and in prior recorded discussions. The poisonings in Jonestown followed the murder of five others by Temple members at Port Kaituma, including United States Congressman Leo Ryan, an act that Jones ordered. Four other Temple members committed murder-suicide in Georgetown at Jones' command. Terms used to describe the deaths in Jonestown and Georgetown evolved over time. Many contemporary media accounts after the events called the deaths a mass suicide. Will you restore the infamous cult, build a memorial, or be an indifferent developer and build a resort? -

The Cathedral-Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar (Spanish: Catedral-Basílica de Nuestra Señora del Pilar) is a Roman Catholic church in the city of Zaragoza, Spain. The Basilica venerates Blessed Virgin Mary, under her title Our Lady of the Pillar, praised as Mother of the Hispanic Peoples by Pope John Paul II. It is reputed to be the first church dedicated to Mary in history. Local traditions take the history of this basilica to the dawn of Christianity in Spain attributing to apparition to Saint James the Great the Apostle (Tradition holds that on 2 January 40 AD, while he was deep in prayer by the banks of the Ebro river at the roman city of Caesaraugusta, She appeared to him and gave a column of jasper and instructed him to build a church in her honor) who is believed by tradition to have brought Christianity to the country. This is the only reported apparition of Mary to have occurred before her believed Assumption. The temple was built between the 1st century AD (first roman temple) and 1961 (north tower completion), passing by many architectonic styles and several enlargements. ------------ NO DEPENDENCIES Enjoy it! -

Entry 3: Religiously Educational Industrialisation!
89James89 posted a City Journal entry in Antario
Replies bofromer: Thanks, the rail and road are working up so far but I'm sure there far from perfect. I'll try and get you a image of it for the next entry. That would be a lovely DLC lol and I'm sure it would be useful for more than just me. Entry 3: Religiously Educational Industrialisation! So, were back with this confusing title that just about covers everything that's been going on in Antario since the last time we visited starting with this shot of the end of the Old Town highstreet, showing the new Cathedral dominating end of the road, which , along with the new University were about to see has cemented Antarios status as a city rather than a town (OOC: Being a bit British here with settlement classification, I have no idea how they classify settlements in Norway but oh well, a Cathedral and University is good enough for me). 1. Speaking of which here is the new seat of learning and education for the city of Antario, the Antario Academical Institute. You can also see some of the dorms that make up the University campus, built in keeping with the style of Old Town Antario, mainly to tie them in with the actual main university building. 2. As you can see from the following picture the actual campus is located directly next tot he new cathedral and is made up of the main university building, four dorms, a large glass botanical and related studies building and several recreational facilities. In stark contrast to the cathedral and the university you can see the low income housing projects built in response to a spike in residential demand. These also mark the end of Old Town and are the beginnings of the spread of the city eastwards. 3. Next up we have some large scale industrial expansion, mainly based around new university graduates wanting to try their hands at running a business of their own. Unfortunately as you can probably imagine this spread has come quite quickly and isn't all that organised meaning that the limited dock space in the harbour has become a bit crowded, you can see that they have tried to help alleviate the problem with some additional piers and wharves but eventually we may have to look at a more organised solution. Anyway, the actual pictures are below with the first showing the expansion of the existing industrial waterfront to fully encompass the natural harbour and the second showing a new industrial waterfront to the south of the city entrance., where a much more restricted access harbour has been built to handle small scale shipping. 4. 5. Other than this we have the normal for any growing city and that's this shot of the Old Town Hospital, with the growth of the financial district in the background. 6. And the inevitable traffic issues that come with a growing city, this time with the main entrance roundabout. A lack of a dedicated entrance into the growing industrial waterfront meant that trucks and lorries were causing huge backups trying to navigate the narrow streets into the waterfront. 7. Some quick brainstorming later and we came up with this solution before the issue ground the city to a halt. Firstly, unless your delivering to a shop in Old Town you now can't drive a truck or a lorry through. To provide a working traffic solution we dug out several tunnels, the first leading as a exit from the highway into the city to a tunnel exit to the left of the railyard. The second was replacing the awkward bridge over the oil power plant railway with a underpass and a connecting tunnel to the new industrial sector allowing for a much improved flow of traffic. 8. And finally, after you've suffered this wall of text we get to the end of the entry with the obligatory overview image, this time with the population of the growing city standing at 31,940 people. 9. Future plans/citizen requests on the table: -Improve the lacking public transport network? -Provide housing for the increasing number of people wanting to move to the city? -Take a look at streamlining the harbour area? -Look into new avenues of industry, maybe forestry? -Financial district substantial expansion? -Get the city beautification projects finished instead of half done? (OOC: Here we are for another entry. As you can see I tried to create some sort of university campus and built the cathedral to cement the place as a city. Pretty damn hard gettignt he cathedral though without using and cheats. Took my bank balance from 5.4million down to just above 1million before it started improving. The trees also look a bit funky at the moment but apparently its a bug that CO are aware of and are planning on fixing. The harbour is also an area that's a bit odd. Having just finished developing it I unlocked the harbours, however not wanting to have to redo everything before the entry I just built some eye candy piers and will have a look a real harbour as a future project. The other thing I've added is the further plan list to give you an idea of where we might be heading in future entries. We definitely won't be covering all of these in the next couple of entries there just some sort of vague plan or idea of where I'm heading. Cheers James) -
Show us all your churches, temples, synagogues, shrines, mosques, and other religious buildings where your citizens go to pray. Here are some from my city journal. These are supposed to be in the future. Also if any of you know links to good religious buildings please post them.
