  1. Show us your City's Details/Close-ups!

HO HO HO! 'tis the season.....of relatives piling up at your place. with my office turned into a makeshift guest room my pc is blocked. thus i'm left with my crappy old laptop and vanilla SC4 (+NAM, +matt's glorious terminus stations). shown is the CBD and the main circular avenues (fancy flat tunneling under the railcrossings supplied by CORI CORPS OF ENGINEERS - MODDING EXCELLENCE SQUAD), in the far corner you can spot the maxis highway which crosses through the entire region.
  2. Show us your City's Details/Close-ups!

hey folks, not really a city-shot per se, as this is just a testbed with some roads with zoning/parking lots and a couple civic buildings, BUUUUUT....with 900 plugins (so far) and cori´s delightful no-kickout mod (among others)..this grew on its own. zero repetition. i....am...amazed. big thanks to all the batters and modders, SimCity 4 is the best and always will be!
  3. hey folks, attached you'll find a small collection of sources to give you ideas for building more realistic cities. i have myself struggled with realism in my ...."creations", so i started looking for some inspiration. what i listed here is an overview consisting of some articles, educational material of varying depth and some youtube-videos for ease of consumption. i hope it will give other players some ideas how to fill those big empty maps, too! and lest we forget google earth! (oh how i wish we'll someday have a game that will look like the 3d-view there.) https://courses.lumenlearning.com/boundless-sociology/chapter/urbanization-and-the-development-of-cities/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_city http://www.art.net/~hopkins/Don/SimCity/manual/history.html https://www.boredpanda.com/how-famous-city-changed-timelapse-evolution-before-after/?utm_source=duckduckgo&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=organic https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_urban_planning http://metrocosm.com/morphing-metro-maps/ https://www1.nyc.gov/site/planning/about/city-planning-history.page cheers.
  4. Animaltown: The Iron Forest

you're motivating me to become better at this game. i wish you years more of fun with it..:) and make many, many more screenshots..
  5. Animaltown: The Iron Forest

this is the first city made in this game that really feels....big. mister, you have really reached deep into the subject matter here! fully utilizing every little bit of game. bats, transportation, scale. it's breathtaking. never would i have thought to see something of this SCALE in SimCity 4. sure, there are big regions made by other players, and while some are exquisite..most are just...big ...and full of ..stuff. meh. but yours feels like a real connected network, ..the road/highway/train-networks...i'm just floored. A-MAZ-ING! what a city.
  6. @City_Slider you're not alone. aaaanyway. i just wanted to say that SC4D LEX is a beautiful site. it's like coming to my university library and using the file register there. all is logically sorted, it's interlinked, dependency trackers(!) ..it's just...ugh..it pleases my german need for tidiness. also the site looks really good. love the smooth animations and the overall color scheme. whoever maintains that site..you're doing a good job!
  7. Open building menus horizontally?

man, talk about overhauls. what an exciting time to have started this game again. you guys rock, all of you.:)
  8. Open building menus horizontally?

@rsc204 @chfzdn , i looked into this damn-mod..and DAMN, that's a lot of work (cheap pun, best pun). i don't know if this is not just another complicated overlay when i was originally thinking of a strictly visual impovement. shame...but the game IS almost 20 years old. i'll stick to scrolling until my fingers fall off. gives one time to think about life and such! thank you for giving me more insight! re mouse settings: tried upping the scrollwheel speed and that actually alleviates it a bit, THANKS.
  9. hey forum, every time i play the game and open my crammed building menus (the side bar where all the stuff to build is popping up when you click on the category icons) i make a deep sigh for with many plugins installed it takes a loooooooooooooooong time to scroll down to the lot you want (especially the landmark folder...oh boy). this is not helped by the way the game opens up a long downwards-oriented ..well..folder? whatever you wanna call this scrolldown-thingie. (SEE FIGURE A of the attached ..ehr..."schematic drawing".) here's my question: could this be changed to have it pop out horizontally? this way you would have multiple times the space as icons could load in lines under each other. this would take more space on the screen, naturally, but it would make picking (and comparing) lots much easier and faster. (FIGURE B) is this a feasible change? or is it impossible to code? i am a noob in those things, so sorry if my idea is perhaps outlandishly ignorant.
  10. and there you have it. "Place de Cori", situated directly adjacent to Louisburg Town Hall, is a popular spot in downtown. Named after one of the famed city planners who laid the foundations of the towns zoning grid the plaza has become a free speech centre with its own speakers corner right under the statue bearing the plazas namesake.
  11. thanks cori! gonna name a fancy park in my city "Place de Cori".
  12. i had not thought about that, but it sounds plausible! could i change the filename? a "z" or "zzz_" in front? or put it in a random folder in my plugins and name it ..i don't know, "zzzz_corimod" or what have you? does it have to be in the root directory of the plugins or can it be sub-foldered that way?
  13. okay....so i tried the above again. this time though, i used my plugin folder (which is brimming) and wouldn`t you know it..insta-growth of a miriad of midsize-skyscrapers...well. it seems that with a lot of plugins installed this mod is still working..albeit a little less restrictive. upgrading old districts via razing DOES still work, so that`s good. cheers.
  14. dear cori, thanks so much for making the SC4 experience a COMPLETELY NEW GAME. this is a damn milestone in terms of how the game plays out. what...a....change. i made a simple testbed city from one of the maxis-scenarios (only NAM, minimal plugins). normally a snooze-fest. BUT since i now use your "mod" (+less abandonment mod, also a godsent) the game is fun even at that basic level. i plan, it grows, i plan some more, it grows some more, i bulldoze, i plan, it stays, it goes. DYNAMIC GAMEPLAY. amazing.
  15. Mexico

your work is the reason i came back to SimCity. just amazing the stuff you do.
