Greetings to my fellow SimCity 4 fans! Today I bring you the city of San Juan of Puerto Rico, capital of the Island of Enchantment, Puerto Rico, a Commonwealth territory of the United States of America located in the northeast side of the Caribbean! This city stands out as one of the oldest European settlements in the Americas, having been founded definitively by the year 1521 after the failed attempt of Caparra. The city was originally named Puerto Rico, and the main island was named Saint John the Baptist. Over time these names switched places in common parlance to what we know today. During its 500-year-long history, San Juan has acted as a formidable military base under the Spanish Empire and the United States of America. Its historic center, Old San Juan, stands proud with a vast system of walls, castles and fortresses defending its bay, with the San Felipe del Morro castle, Fort San Cristóbal and the Palace of Santa Catalina (residence of the governors of Puerto Rico since 1540) as its crowning jewels. During its active service, this system defended against raids from the Taíno and Carib indigenous groups, pirates and privateers from colonial rivals of Spain in the Caribbean, with notable names such as Sir Francis Drake (English), Sir George Clifford (English), Captain Balduino (Dutch) Enrico (also known as Boudewijn Hendricksz / Bowdoin Henrick, Dutch) and Sir Ralph Albercrombie (British). With the advent of the Spanish-American War and the sunset of the Spanish Empire, the Americans conquered the city and continued using it for military purposes, all the way to the end of the Cold War. During all of this time the city always maintained its function as the seat of government of Puerto Rico. Nowadays, San Juan experiences much more peaceful days, having become a major center of commerce, industry, education, finance, transportation and tourism in the Caribbean. With its municipal population of 395,326 inhabitants, it commands a conurbated metropolitan area of 1.25 million inhabitants and a combined statistical area of 2,732,036 inhabitants, encompassing essentially the northeast half of Puerto Rico. Among its other notable landmarks are its Convention District, Plaza las Américas (largest shopping mall of the Caribbean), the University of Puerto Rico, the José Miguel Agrelot arena (also known as "el Choliseo"), the Center of Beautiful Arts of Santurce, the San José Cathedral and the nightlife and tourism corridor encompassing the Miramar, Condado and Ocean Park neighborhoods. The download includes two maps: * The first, named "San Juan PR" includes only the core conurbation, with an area of 45.056km X 24.576km, equivalent to 11 X 6 large city districts but optimized for the notable landmarks and municipal centers of the metro area. This one is a high quality 8-bit grayscale-sourced map. * The second, named "San Juan Metro" includes most of the outer suburbs, with an area of 61.440km X 34.816km, equivalent to 15 X 8.5 large city districts, which are also optimized for placement of municpal centers and notable landmarks. This is a lower quality 8-big grayscale-sourced map due to its inclusion of the western part of the Luquillo Ridge, the mountainous area at which El Yunque National Rainforest is located. Players can render the map using either SC4 Terraformer, SC4 Mapper (with .SC4M file) or using the game commands with the grayscale and config files provided. Those who render the region from the grayscale map must use beskhu3epnm's High Elevation Import Mods w Erosion Control parameters, namely the 500m (core) or 1000m (full metro) plugin with the desired erosion level (I'd recommend either the no erosion or the quarter erosion (QE) variant). Greetings to my fellow SimCity 4 fans! Today I bring you the city of Santo Domingo, capital of the beautiful Dominican Republic. This city stands out as the oldest permanent European settlement in the Americas, having been founded as far back as 1496 and thus sporting the title "Ciudad Primada de América" (First city of the Americas). Having a population of 2,581,000 inhabitants in the 2010 census and estimated to reach 3,658,000 inhabitants by 2015, it is by far the most populous city among the Caribbean islands, and the largest metropolis of the Dominican Republic. This city boasts an amazing historical center, with landmarks such as Fortaleza de Ozama (one of very few authentic Medieval castles in the New World), the Palacio Nacional, the official residence of its President, and the Jardín Botánico Nacional de Santo Domingo. Together in this map I've also featured some of its notable suburbs, including the dirty industrial district of Bajos del Haina, its super modern Port of Caucedo, Boca Chica, Andrés, Los Frailes, Villa Faro and Pantoja. This map measures 53.248km X 32.768km, corresponding to 13 X 8 large city districts, with the config optimized to fit these settlements, rivers and notable infrastructure components. Players can render the map using either SC4 Terraformer, SC4 Mapper (with .SC4M file) or using the game commands with the grayscale and config files provided. Those who render the region from the grayscale map must use beskhu3epnm's High Elevation Import Mods w Erosion Control parameters, namely the 500m plugin with the desired erosion level (I'd recommend either the no erosion or the quarter erosion (QE) variant). Link provided below: Recommended terrain mods for this map include the following: * HD Sandy Beach Mod * Rivit's Coastal Modd 2009: namely the green inshore and the ultramarine offshore * Either the Grass Lands terrain mod or the HBS Californian terrain mod * HBS Yucatán Tropical Tree mod or HBS Californian Mediterranean Tree mod LICENSING: This map is provided as free content to SimCity 4 players, who are free to modify it for their use and for production of derivative maps for publication. Welcome to Aguadilla, Puerto Rico! Hello to all fellow mayors of Simtropolis, today I'm presenting an improved map hailing from western Puerto Rico, the city of Aguadilla, together with its neighbors. Northwestern Puerto Rico was the first area of Puerto Rico reached by Christopher Columbus' expeditions, in November 19, 1493. The supposed landing's location is suspected to have occurred near the mouth of the Culebrinas River, just south of Aguadilla. Some 500-something years later, tourists and hi-tech industries make their landing in the region, which boasts one of the longest airport runways at the Rafael Hernández International Airport, as well as numerous beaches where surfers brave the waves and hunchback whales in the first four months of the year. Notable industrial firms with presence in the region include Honeywell (military, power and precision equipments), Lufthansa Technik (aerospace), Abbot (medical devices) and Monsanto (agricultural biotechnology). Aguadilla proper hosts a population of approximately 60,000 inhabitants, together with another 125,000 from the neighbors visible in this map. This map is an accurate scale rendition of the main city of northwest Puerto Rico, together with its immediate surroundings (municipalities of Aguada, Añasco, Moca and Rincón). The terrain has a varied mixture of plains, rolling hills, limestone karst topography and a very smooth shoreline for your picturesque beaches. For those who want to make a rendition inspired in the real thing, I've provided a map which shows the urban centers of the municipalities (capital letters) and notable neighborhoods and villages (italics). Credit to NASA for creating the Surface Raster Topographic Map, from where the terrain data was extracted. Size: 28.67km X 28.67km (28 X 28 small tiles, 7 X 7 large tiles) Type: real world, accurate scale Recommended terrain mods: GrassLands or HBS Californian Terrain Mod Recommended flora mods: HBS Yucatan Tropical Tree Mod, or HBS Californian Mediterranean Tree Mod Recommended coastal mods: Rivit's Coastal Mod 2009 (brown sand beach or white sand beach, Green foreshore, Ultramarine offshore) Those who render the region from the grayscale map must use beskhu3epnm's High Elevation Import Mods w Erosion Control Parameters, namely the 500m plugin with the desired erosion level (I'd recommend either the no erosion or the quarter erosion (QE) variant). For this map I have provided the SC4Mapper file, the grayscale and a config optimized for notable settlements and facilities. Enjoy!-
