Originally posted by: JCarter I'm not sure if I mentioned this before, but collector/distributor roads would be nicequote>I just thought of this on the fly... Since the rural highway can be built as two seperate directional roads, has anyone brought up the concept of using the RH as collector lanes themselves? Side on/off ramps could be used to distribute the local & express traffic. Puzzle pieces could be made to split/merge the RH collector lanes. I'd also like to take a moment to thank everyone who's been working on this project and putting up with a looooooong request list. Regardless of what we end up seeing in the new NAM, thanks for working so hard at it (yet receiving little or nothing in return). Your efforts will open a lot of new doors for the players and make the game even harder to turn off than it already is!

Originally posted by: MaybeMemories06 ...the upper lane ofthe crossbar is seperated by a cement median, so they can continue to move while the other cars enter from the leg into the bottom 1-2 lanes. Wonderful time saver, especially if you are prone to hitting red lights like I am.quote> In the world of passing lanes this is a horrible idea. It means that the right lane moves faster than the left, defeating the purpose of a passing lane. It would result in a lot of unnecessary weaving and a little more road rage than usual on a busy roadway. But that said, it would make a unique addition to the game (provided it's a puzzle piece and not a mod).

To clarify, the Peace Tower was NAMED (not built) in honour of our troops who were lost during WWI. And contrary to a few comments here, isn't the tower actually a seperate portion from the Centre Block? I can't say for sure since I've only approached it once and that wasn't exactly on my mind. Anyway, this looks fantastic legalizeit, thanks so much... it would be cool if the night lighting could rotate colours as it does in reality (IS that possible? *shrug*)

Don't people READ anymore?!? These are RAMPS--you can place them according to RHD rules. Place the onramp on the right-hand side, problem solved! And PLEASE stop saying "American version" as though the U.S. is the only RHD country on Earth... assuming you incorrectly use "American" to refer to the U.S. and not the super-continent of America. I'll download and rate when the connectivity issue is resolved, but visually it looks nice ill tonkso.

Originally posted by: prince_of_sims it's not impossible, it's just impractical and an honest to goodness waste of time. all network pieces require path files, and path files that carry the same type of traffic (i.e. cars) in the same direction (as would be the case with any double-decker network) cannot be overlaid. well, saying can't might be going too far, but overlaying them cause bugs in the game.quote> A double-decker highway would carry the same type of traffic in different directions though. And for roads/highways, couldn't the upper deck be "eye candy" while the lower deck (the only one actually carrying the traffic) be altered to allow more vehicles or faster speeds to reduce congestion? Just a brain fart since I'm clueless about modding. On a similar note, elevated highways seem bland to me and largely pointless unless there's something under them... how about we see some parked cars under there to use the space more responsibly?

Originally posted by: Pixelrage I also HATE the concrete borders they stuck on ground highways.quote> The new Rural Highway download looks much better. It's still concrete, but it's divided and has shoulders rather than side barriers. Unfortunately there's still a lot of work to be done on it (interchanges, better curve & transition textures, etc). That'll probably be lumped into the next NAM. Originally posted by: JCarter Here are my requests: ...Tunnels that go under water... Sunken highways that are easier to lay out... More realistic looking freewaysquote> blahdy has made a magnificent version of Boston's underground freeway, including underground access ramps. Using this method, at least you could get a highway to tunnel underneath the water. Get it at https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=16428. Sunken highways are a breeze with the hole-digging lots and the NAM's roadway puzzle pieces (which include pieces that bridge straight across a 45-degree slope so that you don't get a "bumpy bridge"). I'm assuming you haven't tried this, but if you have and it's still not easy enough for you I really doubt it'll get any better. And as I mentioned in the above reply, the Rural Highway looks fantastic--much better than the game version--as long as it's straight. For interchanges and bridges you'll have to transition it to a regular game highway for the time being.

My top 5 are listed in the final paragraph of this post, I just wanted to get a reply in. Originally posted by: The Terminator ...no buildings taller than the washington monument rule...quote> Ottawa, ON had a similar bylaw with the Peace Tower (92 m). The idea was that the most important building in the city should dominate the skyline, but as the CBD of Ottawa grew the bylaw was removed because there were local concerns that it would contribute either to urban sprawl (needing to build outward instead of upward) or a movement of businesses from downtown to the 'burbs, or both. Today the bylaw no longer exists, but there are still restrictions on new buildings that partially apply to height which the city strictly enforces. It concerns sunlight hitting various streets at certain times of the day. The Royal Bank building is a product of this weird form of control and consequently has a hole through the middle of it (literally) to allow light to hit the very street it stands on. http://www.worldofstock.com/slides/ANB1527.jpg Technically, Terrasses de la Chaudière in Hull, QC is the tallest building in the metropolitan Ottawa area (124 m) whereas Place de Ville-C is the tallest building in the city of Ottawa (112 m). http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/c/cc/Terrasses_de_la_Chaudiere.jpg http://www.emporis.com/en/il/im/?id=258165 Don't knock Washington's "rule", since it helps keep the city look unique and recognizable... many, many capital cities have adopted the rule at one point or another. As for the point of this thread (LOL) I love Ottawa, although since I'm a Canuck that's to be expected. I don't live there, but I try to go every year to watch the Dominion Day fireworks and take in the sights. However, I rank it 2nd to London... that's your world capital right there. Truly great capital cities need to embrace history, politics, and entertainment, so Paris, Rome, and Tokyo round-out my top five. Fun thread, wmthor!

Victoria's a beautiful city. I went to Vancouver on vacation a couple of years ago and we took a day trip to see the city and Butchart Gardens. I was disappointed by the lack of freeway coverage in BC (yeah, I'm a roadgeek) but visually the whole southern mainland and Van. Isle is breathtaking. I'm not big on maps, but this is a nice one.
