Unable to run SC4Mapper2 on Windows 7
TownMaster2005 replied to Manick2005's topic in SC4 Modding - Open Discussion
Who knows. I have never been able to get it to work on Windows 7 and that is after installing all the DLL files and DirectX 9 redist and following the instructions carefully. Can it and use on of the other programmes which do work, without all the hassles such as Terraformer. -
How do I un-install the previous version as I would like to start clean. There does not seem to be an uninstaller within the package.

Hi Controllers. I don't whether it is just me or due to the changes on this brilliant new site; but the search function seems to have gone all wonky. I did a search on "update NAM bridge controller" and I got 177 items none of which had any relation to the search question in Forums. And trusty old Google search is not being much help either which means it may not be picking things up off the site. Hey, I don't know how all this stuff works, but I know it works and how to use it. I just rely on the folk with a skill different to me to provide me with the tools / answers. Thanks Gents.

Extreme Phantom Slider Issue?
TownMaster2005 replied to nickfindley's topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
Surprising. I have used that lot quite a bit and is one of my favourites and never given me any problems. Use one of the lot tools and check what it is all about. Perhaps something has become corrupted. NDEX's lots have always been very safe to use. -
Your favorite Nuclear Power plant

This is my favourite My link although I don't think any are yet operational. The concept just sound great although obviously some risks attached. Wish I had enough batting skills to make one. -
Connecting cities and towns
TownMaster2005 replied to ClayGuthrie's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Industries which back onto a rail track will use that to export their goods, all others need a freight station, so it is a good idea to have a couple of them around within your industrial area and they must all be connected to rail. As Topgun232 has mentioned the benefits are enormous in terms of taking traffic of city connections. In terms of doing the connection drag your road, rail, whatever to the end, accept the connection, pays your money and on loading the adjacent city you will find the connection there. Just be mindful that the connection does not care what is on the other side and I have forgotten about that and I when I loaded the city find that I now had an concrete highway connection but it had just demolished a nice housing development for the first few tiles. So when working within developed cities it is a good idea to do the tile count check to make sure you are going to enter a green fields site. -
I am running the game on a machine with pretty much the same spec and started to get the problems which I think you are experiencing. I solved it by taking some time out from the game and selectively datpacking folder. The boffins say you should not datpack NAM so I left that. And what I did was pull out all the growables and datpack those into reasonable size files. Found doing it by creator was the best as it gives a way of managing new lots. Similarly a lot of the utility lots, airports, seaports, park, etc I did a big clean out. We often download thing because they look good and then we find they are not used. We all have our favourites and it is really the growing stuff which gives me the variety that I am looking for. So I went through with a critical eye and moved those to a separate folder out of plugins. Got DAMN up and running properly and put stuff into that so that the menu structure loads quicker, by not having look for the long list. Similarly with all the other menu type items. If you only use them every now and then, like airports which if you have them is a long list and it is not something you are building all the time, so why have it on tap. Remove all readme,s pictures, etc, anything that had nothing to do with the lot growing or plopping in game is gone. Result is I now have in my plugins folder about 1500 files and it is still just over 2GB and I still need to tackle the PEG lots. Found the game loads faster and generally moves a lot quicker.

Extreme Phantom Slider Issue?
TownMaster2005 replied to nickfindley's topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
CaptCity you are a star Thanks for that. I may actually go back and try that region again. I just never thought of bulldozing the lot and then saving and going back in. I was trying to do it without the in and out and that was obviously not having the desired effect on the save file. I notice article just talks about schools but I would surmise that it is possibly applicable to all slider type lots. Take care and once again thanks. -
That is brilliant. Thanks Ldvger I have made a copy for myself.

Extreme Phantom Slider Issue?
TownMaster2005 replied to nickfindley's topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
T Wrecks; explain please about moving something out of the plugins folder. I have always been under the impression that doing that would case the game to crash. My experience of the Phantom Slider has been when I go and change something. Did that a while back on a police station that just had some wierd budget things in; and it mucked up the whole region and everything went so wonky I just binned it completely. Removing and replacing lots did not solve the problem at all. Even tried placing different lots is different places and that still would not do it. This is just to expand my own knowledge of the how the game works and perhaps others will also find it useful to hear from those that know. -
I may be wrong, but I have it at 16x16m

The Craziest Interchanges from Your Country/State
TownMaster2005 replied to MandelSoft's topic in Architecture & Urban Planning
Some interesting stuff. Being a civil engineer and knowing the constraints imposed when working within an urban environment I can understand the confusion. New Zealand has it's own nightmare - known as the CMJ (Central Motorway Junction). Tourists beware! My link -
