Hello Simtropolis! So, I have a little problem with SFBT's Airport Shuttle. It's a transit enabled lot and modded as an airport/bus terminal combo, but the transit switch cost is set to zero, so it creates traffic problems with many cars, buses and pedestrians crossing the lot on their commute. I wanted to fix it and remove the transit switch so it just works as an airport lot, I know how to do it and thought it would be straightforward. However, when I bulldozed the lot and then saved the city, the city file became corrupted or inaccessible somehow. I tried restoring the original file and removing it from the plugins folder but I still can't play the city. It may be worth mentioning that I saved the city while in pause, and did not run the clock after bulldozing so as to not lose the benefits from the airport lot and screw up my demand. I have a backup of the region but it is from months ago, and I'd hate to lose all the progress that I've made. Is there anything I can do to save the city file?

Hmmm... maybe a clue is in order for this one? This city has the name of the State it is in

I understand, I guess it's not likely that Harishna still has the model, maybe someone from back on the time he was still active knows how to get a hold of him. Maybe @debussyman?

Lovely! Even if it's a really small building, I will definitely download it if you put it on the STEX

Whoa!! Did I read @harishna? Does this mean you plan to resurrect his university buildings??

That is El Salvador, which ironically is not in the tropical country of El Salvador, but in Chile, in the middle of the Atacama desert. I got lucky with this one, since I remember seeing it in a very interesting Instagram account, even considered posting it here. Following the theme of planned desert cities I thought about the city of Delicias, Chihuahua, buut I've already posted that, so how about a not so succesful one?

official STEX Custodian General Support Topic
Edvarz replied to STEX Custodian's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Hello! I don't know if this is the right place to ask but I have a couple of files I would like to upload that are based on LEX dependencies and seemingly are no longer available, since I haven't managed to find them on SC4Evermore. I happen to have the original downloads in an old laptop and could help restoring them, but I don't know if this should be done at Simtropolis or elsewhere.- 55 Replies

Spoken like a true son of the Sun Oh, I know that one, it is the port of Progreso, Yucatán, México, close to the white city of Mérida and right next to Chicxulub, the impact zone of the crater that is believed to have ended most of the dinosaurs. By the way, you guys should google "Chicxulub crater" for a funny surprise. This next one is for both history and geography nerds

They are! Malé particularly feels like a city striaght out from SC4 or C:S. It's rare to see such dense urbanization on a tiny island. Speaking of islands, that's Palma de Mallorca, Spain! Biggest city in the Baleares The next one is a city I find extremely interesting both for it's history and geography:

You say mountains, I immediately think the Andes. It's Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia. Why are it's inhabitants not happy about sharing? Is it because the city is booming and the migrating peoples from the mountains are indigenous? Or is it just that they're unhappy about rural migrants? Maybe my submissions are a bit easy, since I like posting unique places, but here goes a surprisingly large city, which is naturally very dense owing to it's unique geography:

¡Saludos! Oxxos, Oxxos everywhere

Heh, I guess many italians, mexicans and chileans have a disregard for tectonic risks in common Punta Arenas, Chile! I knew I saw this one because I thought about posting another remote place nearby. This one's fun because it looks like it's facing the ocean but it actually isn't. I might be bending the rules a bit with this one, since it clearly isn't a city, let me know if this entry isn't valid

Let's write our own SC4 Building Styles
Edvarz replied to Ulisse Wolf's topic in SC4 Modding - Open Discussion
Hey, maybe I can offer my two cents on this, since this is basically what I've been doing for the past, like... ten years. I haven't been following the whole discussion so correct me if I get anything wrong. I think basing the tilesets by style and not historical era is the way to go, at least as someone trying to build an authentic LatAm city. The post is too long already so I'll just focus on the historic districts. I basically group everything looking stereotipically "colonial" on the Chicago tileset, with buildings like these, these, these, or these. These technically wouldn't all be pre-industrial, since a fair amount are from the 19th century (example) and look clearly neoclassical and there's even some contemporary buildings baked into the models. With the styles proposed, these ones could either fit between the "Rome 1755" for the older more colonial looking ones and "Berlin 1915" for anything with european neoclassical/eclectic inspiration. On the other hand, anything looking more clearly neoclassical or eclectic, like these, these or this goes to the New York tileset, where they can mix with european and suitable american BATs. With the original four tilesets these styles have to mix with art deco and some modernist buildings, but it's honestly no big deal; my reasoning is this one: these styles tend to be fairly urban (think Buenos Aires, Santiago, Colonia Roma/Condesa in Mexico City) and you tend to find them all together anyway. With the new styles we'd gain the ability to group anything looking like it's from, say, the 1800's to 1920's in the "Berlin 1915" style with the european buildings they take inspiration from. On the other hand, art deco buildings like this, or some of these. would be at home in the "New York 1935" tileset where they can mix with neoclassical US buildings if players want. There could indeed be some overlap with buildings like these, these or this which aren't technically colonial or preindustrial but kinda look at home with both the colonial and the eclectic buildings, plus some of the ones I mentioned earlier. So, the conflict I see would be between deciding if something looks "colonial", "19th century" or both. However, I think this would be more of an issue for people who want a clear-cut separation of styles or want to grow period-accurate cities. If, say, you wanted to aim for an authentic LatAm city you would have both blended together anyway, so it wouldn't really matter and you'd gain the ability to separate and more accurately group the pre-1920's styles and the modernist-onward styles. So... all this essay just to say: great idea! Of course, I'm basing most of this on Mexico, where there can be said to be a bit more marked historic separation between the period before the 1920s and the period onwards (the event separating the two being the Mexican Revolution) I'd say this would apply to architectural styles too, but I'm no art historian or architect. It'd be worthwhile if someone trying to build a different city style like Rio, Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires or Santiago (I'd say @matias93 for the latter) could shed more light on this. -
Next one. I was watching a documentary on this city and found it as interesting as it was unnerving:

Found it!! Kampala, Uganda. This was a hard one. I thought the big round space in the middle was a volcano so I was looking all trough tropical regions with volcanoes (mainly SE Asia and Central America). Then I decided to focus on the lake, since I thought the waterfront didn't look like a coast or an estuary, so, next I thought big*** lake and Lake Victoria came to mind.

That's right! it's not a super historic place, since it was founded in the 30's but I wonder if it's planners were inspired by either Belo Horizonte or a certain other city I was also considering for the post (maybe in another entry). I thought Delicias would be a bit more obscure to find (apparently not ). This game is really fun for a city and geography nerd like me.

Love the way the right angles of the perfectly planned grid merge into the organic layout of the terrain! I was originally going to post another city I found interesting but now just for fun I'll post this one with a similar grid pattern to see if folks find it

Thanks! that shouldn't be a problem since the trees I'm adding aren't seasonal. Yeah, that is especially the case with those ugly Maxis trees . The reason I want to add rather than override is because I want my mod to work alongside existing tree replacement mods, simply giving them a bit more variety. This way also allows for the file to just be dropped in a plugins folder without needing to worry about loading order. All in all, it took less than an hour to make and the results are just what I expected!

Is it cheating if I looked at the cities that I thought could be the correct one on google maps to match it? I think I've found it but I'll just post my reasoning and the cities I discarded: Here's how my thought process went: The city has a grid in what seems to be downtown so i don't think it's a european city, it also doesn't look american, too dense. The red roofs suggested Brazil to me, but it obviously isn't Rio or any coastal city; it's a city in the mountainous interior. It's not Manaos, since there's no Amazon river; nor is it Brasilia, since Niemeyer's layout is iconic and easily recognizable. It looks like a big city, so that left me with just Sao Paulo, Curitiba or Belo Horizonte.

Hello, people of Simtropolis, this is my humble attempt at adding some custom content to my favorite game. I installed the Lot Editor a while ago to fix some old LBT (Latin american BAT team) lots that had things that I didn't like, and to try to make my own lots when they weren't to my liking, but also because I wanted to create a mexican-themed city; I even tried to recreate Mexico City (at least the famous parts) to some degree, seeing as how there are a lot of buildings from there for SC4. Since I like to actually run the cities that I create, I wanted my lots to be functional and thus learned how to mod. From what I've seen, those old LBT lots were horribly modded (they never grew on my cities, all were stage 1!!) I've also come across four big packs of models that were never released in any lot whatsoever. So, since I know the basics and I've already put some effort on my lots, it would be a good idea to go all the way and show them to the community, to get feedback and ultimately, to upload them and contribute to this great game. There are a lot of models to make a lot of lots (lol)... Hello! So, it's been years since I last uploaded something but today I did! It's that japanese W2W pack I last showed. I'm really happy with it, these buildings are really perfect for any dense urban areas. I'm also working on a little something. I want to add one of my favorite trees -jacarandas- to my SC4 cityscapes, so I'm tinkering around trying to do a little mod that adds them to already existing prop families, so far it seems to work! (special thanks to @Barroco Hispano) for this beautiful models! I'm still not sure if this kind of mod can work, since I've never seen any other mod that adds new props to already existing Maxis prop families, I'll backup my region and keep toying around.

Documentación en Español incluida en la descarga. Description This is a pack of japanese “w2w” growable lots for your dense urban environments, their style makes them look great in any kind of city, not just asian ones. I’ve taken these building models, given them new stats, put them in lots and even combined some of them together to achieve that dense, built-up look of a modern downtown. Installation Just unzip the folder with the lot files anywhere in your Plugins directory. It's recommended to keep the folder structure intact to help maintain your content organized. Don't extract the Documentation files to your Plugins folder! Uninstallation Make sure you bulldoze every instance of these buildings you may have in your cities. After that, remove the files from your Plugins folder. Dependencies Make sure you have all the files in your Plugins, if you don't, you will get brown boxes instead of the actual buildings and some textures could also be missing. -girafe carpack 1 & 2 -rush_zakkyo_1-10 -rush_zakkyo_11-20 -rush_zakkyo_20-26 Download from here, scroll down until you see the following, then click the links shown below: Notes I did not make the model(s) and do not claim any credit for them. The modding of this buildings was made using the PIM-X tool, so there shouldn't be any problem with these buildings throwing the game off balance. If you run into any issues, or want to see other things I'm working on, pay a visit to my lot thread in Simtropolis, you can also PM me here. Enjoy!-

Hello! I have a small doubt, I want to make a small mod that adds custom trees to already existing Maxis prop families, without overriding anything. So far I've done it by creating new prop exemplars with PIM-X, then I´ve added the prop family also with PIM-X. I've done some testing and it seems to be a success. However, I don't know of any existing mods that function this way, so I've become unsure if it is a good idea to do it like this rather than doing it by overriding the exemplars. Can there be negative consequences from messing with Maxis prop families like this? Maybe some legendary SC4 modding wizards here know something I don't. So far the only thing I can think of is that removing the mod would cause issues in cities where the trees have already appeared in either plopped or grown lots, but a lot of mods have this consequence anyway. Thanks a lot!

Beautiful models! They catched my eye instantly. Unfortunately I couldn't get them to grow, so I checked the files in PIM-X and it looks like some of them have the property "MinSlopeAllowed" set to 5; as I understand it, this means that they won't grow on completely flat terrain, only when there is a slight slope. I made new lot exemplars and now they are growing as I wanted them to. You can DM me if you want more info.
