Thanks JasonCW, thanks T Wrecks. I have worked on the ad, the side wall, the skylights. The fact that you had to point me to the same area twice, Jason, doesn't mean that I refused to get it right. I just seem to be cautious to not overdo a modification in order to not jump from one extreme to another. What T Wrecks referred to, the appearence that the bay's left side merges visually with the front wall, I tried to fix by making the bay front texture a tad darker and adding subtle outlines. It isn't really a solution that has much to do with RL (why would the bay have a different tone than the rest of the facade?) but I think it helps in this situation. Added some lighting, using the templates I had created for my previous building. Looks as if I could finish and upload this one before the end of the weekend. Edit: Whoa! 40th post! I shall make a post in the Milestones thread.

Thanks, Jason. I have done the modifications you recommended regarding the skylights and the ad. I have also worked on the back wall today. Comments are welcome.

Here's a first shot of my second BAT. Same category as the first BAT, with a few variations. Some dirt has been splashed against the front wall but this one won't be nearly as grimy as the first W2W building. Yeah, I'm not convinced about the roof windows either. The dark blue frame is modeled although it looks painted to me. The outer grey frame is supposed to be the mounting of the roof window onto the roof itself. The *glamorous* reflection is produced in GIMP. I have added an ad / direction sign onto the right wall. Adds a bit colour to that side as long as the neighbour lot is not developped. Please let me know what you think.
  10. I remember my first BAT...

My condolences. Not to mention the amount of hours spent to fill the plugin folder. Don't give up.

Agreement here. Clint Rockwell would add something unique to our cities. The back portion reminds of University buildings (e.g. science annex) or really large secondary schools from the 1960's, 1970's. There are two things that don't convince me about it. First is the (blue) roof. For me it adversely effects the design of the building and reminds me of a mall or suburban restaurant. That's a feature of the real life building and not your fault, I have seen. (And I do not dislike mall architecture. Just think that it doesn't fit in here.) But you made the roof smaller relative to the rest of the structure which increased the mall effect of it in my opinion. Another liberty you took was with the staircase. It is much better than on the original Police Dept., making the building more open to the street front. One thing though: I think you exaggerated the height of that staircase. It looks as if it was leading from street level all the way up to 6 meters. Maybe half of it could be enough. It would be interesting to try it out and show here.

This building is inspired by W2W residentials in urban areas in Germany, built in the 1950's and 1960's. Stats: R$ - 77 residents Lot size: 1x2 Medium density residential zone Euro tileset No external dependencies Installation: unzip the download and copy all 3 files it contains into your plugin folder Enjoy!

Does the texture look better then compared to the perspective screenshoots you were showing in your previous posts? Probably yes. Edit: Heblem and Amthaak beat me by two minutes.

Nightlighting looks fabulous. Though I think it is slightly excessive on the right corner building (all rooms are lit).

Your tower has a very interesting shape. It' s a good start and it is definitely worth to keep tweaking it to perfection. At a second glance I was a bit confused about the twist of the building. Does it really twist around a central axis all the way up from bottom to top? Are the roof and the (hypothetical) ground plate of exactly the same size? And if yes, do they have exactly the same X and Y coordinates? If yes, then it's perhaps my eyes to blame. Nevermind. And lastly I am not so sure about the color of the windows. Maybe the Smurf blue is a bit out of touch with real world scyscrapers. Keep up the good work.

Great! Great! Great! The team GT announcement makes me very curious...

Great model. Thanks for sharing. It would be a good idea to show the entire building in one of the in-game shots.

Desaturated and lightened the roof. And what's more: There is a light that never goes out Comments are appreciated.

The entire roof looks very good including the pipes. Is the roof surface supposed to be strips of tar? In that case it's very seemless. But then, what do I know about a good looking roof. I like the drain pipes on the back wall. Though I think there should be some kind of collector / sewage on the roof near the top end of the drain pipes feeding the pipes with rain water. They would be visible from the front view. Can't wait to have this building in my cities.
  20. TCX - my BATs

    I'd prefer the white version.
  21. SimFox's non-Asian BATs

Great details on the roof and in the inner court. I like very much the entrance area. Reminds me a bit of a museum or a government building. Pingangster's hospital idea is also convincing to me. I am not 100% in love with the the shape of the canopy above the main entrance. It looks like a giant breath mint attached to the wall. Lol. Since this is the only object that is not grey or white I guess you wanted it to look like that.
  22. The GC's BAT thread

I agree. Good start. The entrance should addressed. (Since you attempt a re-creation. If not, the entrance wouln't be that bad.) On the photos that you show I see a quarter circle / smooth curve on both sides of the entrance. It is that Art Deco element that makes the building interesting (even if it was "fake" Art Deco). IMHO, you should aim at recreating it. Though BATters more experienced than I am could point you better to how to do it than I can. But I would try to create a cylinder, chop it to one quarter and attach it to the rest of the front wall's first floor. Edit: the model is ca. 16m x 30m, right?

Thanks T Wrecks and gottago. And Kölle Alaaf. I have added some back wall junk. No satellite dish, though. The landlord doesn't permit it. And if anyone ever guesses for which sports club the banner is for ... well, there will be a reward. I have also redone the dirt on the back roof. Originally posted by: gottago [T]hat grime will collect and streak in certain ways, and with tiles it will collect beneath rows [...].quote> gottago, my friend, no need to become sadistic The back door is brighter now, too. But it's still made of wood, coated and darkened over many years when it was exposed to the sun. Y'know? The roofs of the dormers had some gradient applied to them. The base is brighter now. Lastly, an in-game test. The version on the right has a front wall that I tried to make darker again (and increased contrast). I hadn't saved the front wall before I had made it brighter. Stupid me. I think I'll settle with the left version.
  24. NTM's BAT Workshop I

Well. Now I officially wait for legends like porkissimo or xannepan or oppie to return from their secret retreats to say "you have to be patient, you have to practice and improve and read tutorials and use common sense and blablabla etcetera". Because there are few active members here left who dind't leave their advice with all their good intentions to no avail. I would sincerely like to point all you good Simtropolians to the valuable point that colleague txcalapa has made: there are BAT threads of talented and striving to improve BATters dying while the entire community runs a bizarre competition in one single thread.
