Just built a map using SC4Mapper's RGB information for my new region. I'm not sure how much detail has been lost, but it's more than good enough for me. I would say it's about the same level of detail as in the normal SC4 Data View map overlay. More to come soon.

@andisart: I'm the one on the left. My boyfriend and I celebrated six months since we first met each other on Sunday. We met on the 10th of August, 2012, and made it official on the 29th of September. I can't believe it's been that long. Put this up in my room last night. Felt like it needed a splash of colour, so did that.

A Nonny Moose: It doesn't matter what browser I've been using - it doesn't work on any browser on any of the PCs I've tested. Is anyone else getting this? A side-effect of the recent upgrade? EDIT: Huh, it's back in its normal spot. It seems a few images for the site are missing here and there, too, but that's something that's getting fixed so no worries there

Nope, chat doesn't work at all. It doesn't load at all, dunno why. Maybe it's Shockwave implementation or something. Anyway, no matter - there's something else I've noticed which is a little weird. I've browsed ST on my mobile phone, it uses the Mobile theme, which is good. But there's a weird oversight: no easy way to go from say, the first page to, for instance, page 20, without having to go through every page in between. Is it possible to add a few extra links into the mobile theme UI that allows you to: select a page to go to; select the last page of a topic (particularly useful since clicking on a topic in forum topic view sends you to the first page of that topic, and there's no easy way to go to the last page). On a related note, image resizing for the mobile theme seems to be a bit weird. It forces the images to 100% width of the viewport (that's OK), but for some reason it either retains the original height of the image or forces it to 100% of the viewport (not so OK, often results in image distortion)... and even more weirdly this only seems to happen to older posts (ie. before ST7 switched to the current forum software), so I dunno if there's some extra HTML in there that's causing them to go a bit weird. Just giving you a heads-up, I'm not sure how frequently the mobile theme is used, though. I'm using the latest version of Chrome on Android, FYI. I'm assuming Safari for iOS devices would have something similar as they're based off the same rendering engine.

Alright, um, I think this justifies me posting here for the first time in a long time: ST Chat is a steaming pile of crap. The software just does not work. I'm aware that alternatives have been explored, but why in the seven circles of hell does it not work anymore?! I've noticed that well, hardly anybody is in there, and it's pretty clear why. If, half the time, chat doesn't even load properly, then it's pretty clear that there is something fundamentally wrong with the software, and Dirk, if you're paying a considerable sum of money for it, I'd seriously be considering why you're blowing money every year on something that barely even works. Some serious questions really must be asked of RealChat's developers. Particularly: what the hell are they smoking? -- SA [edit] Should mention that I am indeed running the latest version of Java.

The M6 motorway winds its way through some particularly hilly terrain in the south of my region.

ST chat just sits on the ol' grey screen for me (so no Social Lobby, etc), and has done so since the last chat software update. Tried on both FF, Chrome and IE, and still no go. Any ideas?

That fix will no longer work. The old Start menu has been completely stripped out of Windows. While I most likely won't upgrade to Win8 any time soon, I can see that Metro is actually superior in many ways to the existing Start Menu, though I do wish it wasn't full screen... but anyway, for Metro to really be useful, you have to keep in mind that using the keyboard on a desktop PC with Win8 is even more important. I'll explain why: a lot of shortcuts in Win8 revolve around using the Win Key on keyboards... this is not different from Win7 and previous incarnations, but its features are improved somewhat. For instance, like in Win7, you can simply hit the Win Key and type away. This is no different in Metro and in fact it actually works better because it's presented in a better, more intuitive way for the user, and you don't even need a mouse to use Metro either. I know people don't like change, but UI-wise, Windows 8 is just the evolution of an already-ingrained UI... it's like the jump from Windows 3.11 to Windows 95... and it's better for it. And honestly, how many of you people actually use the Start menu? I don't; all my programs are available in the quick-launch bar or in the icons tray. I only ever use the start menu to shut down the PC, and even that can be done with a simple batch script. Need Explorer? WinKey+E. Need to run a program? WinKey+R. Need to find a document? WinKey, type what you're looking for. Bam. Win8's search functions are actually further improved over Win7's, it's faster, more responsive and most importantly, is presented in a logical way to the user.

They don't know if it actually IS the particle they're looking for, but it's the most promising find so far. They're still working out what properties it has, we'll find out before long where it fits in the Standard Model (hopefully it is the particle they are looking for), I think. I, for one, am looking forward to seeing what tech they can squeeze out of this new discovery. Hopefully we get our promised hoverboards (soon ), but of course that depends on whether its properties can be used to build fancy stuff like that.

That being said, I don't think I'll do anything more than that, was just a proof of concept...

Double post, but relevant to gay marriage. Allowing a conscience vote on gay marriage was narrowly defeated at the Nationals party conference. For people not living in Australia, the Nationals are part of a group called the Coalition, which is made up of both Nationals, representing largely rural electorates, and Liberals, representing cities and big business (generally). They are, together, the most conservative party in Australia's political landscape. I don't like the fact that the party leaders said that it would "break an election promise", and trivialising an issue like this, is quite frankly, offensive to those who have been fighting for equal marriage rights for years. I hate how we have such idiots in power...

Yeah, a bit specific. But what about this example? Recently insurance premiums for young women drivers went up because they were found to be almost as bad as young men when it came to risky behaviours on the road [source here] and it's not just limited to the US - the same thing is happening in Australia and Europe. Anecdotally, I've noticed them more likely to multi-task behind the wheel (with mobile phones, applying lipstick, etc) or do dangerous manoeuvres (such as weaving through traffic in a SUV, fitting into shoe-box sized gaps in traffic while talking on the phone to her girlfriend and applying lipstick at the same time ) just like men. They're just like men, really Anyway, about your second point: yes, I do fully agree. But women have a chance to fight back now, instead of just bowing to the whims of the man that just accosted her in an alleyway, which is only a good thing.

I beg to differ. Women (at least in my age group) are rather more enthusiastic about getting into fights with other women than men of the same age with other men. In other words, women are giving men a run for their money in the self-delusion-about-their-invincibility stakes.
