I just saw a bus in SC4 speed through a street cul-de-sac at 70 MPH, fly off a cliff, and smash into a skyscraper beyond said cliff. Wow...

First Image of SimCity 5, from German magazine GameStar
Moonraker0 commented on SimTanic's article in News
I hope they actually do make some sort of new SimCity. If they do, hopefully the graphics look just like this. I also saw a tram and what looked like a monorail in the pictures; if that's any indication of what they're planning on creating in the game, then both of these things will make me very happy, especially since SC4 trams have problems because they weren't made by Maxis and can't be properly integrated into the game by modders. Hopefully the new game, if made, allows greater flexibility than SC4 for transit modding, such as different automata for different modded networks, as well as "true" overpass functionality: any elevated network passing over any one or more ground or elevated networks in any direction and elevation. I also would like to say that the fixed camera angles of SC4 are one of its biggest problems for me, since one can't even see almost half of the streets in a city once there are too many skyscrapers. It would be so cool to look at things from any angle and be able to see the sky. Not being forced to align everything to the grid and have separate diagonal versions of buildings would also be great. -

Update 1: Downtown Genoa and Surrounding Areas
Moonraker0 commented on Jack³'s City Journal Entry in The Genoa Metropolitan Area (USNW)
Wow, what a cool street design and choice of buildings. It looks great. I'm really looking forward to future updates. -
I'm working on my T-RAM texture mod again, but my eyes need a break after an hour of hex-editing in Reader.

Automata modding confuses me. This elevated train I downloaded shouldn't ever have the Maxis engine, but it sometimes does.

Help with Automata Modding
Moonraker0 replied to eyein91681's topic in SC4 Modding - Open Discussion
Ok, I need help fixing someone's elevated train mod. I am trying to use the Line 5 EMU elevated train replacer by Srainy from SimCity China. However, the engine of the train is not always the correct one; sometimes, the Maxis engine shows up in-game, but always with the right cars. I have tried numerous things to fix this over the past ~3 hours. I tried renaming the folder and files to use Western characters. I moved the folder of the mod to the Program Files SC4 Plugins directory instead of the Documents one. I renamed the folder to have its name start with zzzzzzz_. I moved the included "front patch" file into the same folder as the engine and carriage files. I went into reader and changed the exemplar name of the engine DAT file to match the Maxis one. The IIDs are already the same. I generated a new instance ID for the S3D file, then changed the model resource key to match that new ID in the engine's exemplar. I also changed the "front patch" to have the same name as the maxis subway train exemplar. It appears that the front patch (Google translate name) changes the model of the subway train, while the front/engine DAT changes the elevated train engine. Here is the file; it's the first attachment on the post. I just don't understand how the replacer can have the same IID and name as the Maxis train engine, as well as be further down in the load order, and still not always replace the Maxis one. Please, someone help me with this. I'm naturally rather desperate to get this fixed after all this time I've wasted trying to do it myself. -
Thanks, Dragonxander; also, the avenue is not meant to intersect with the highway, since there's an onramp further north. Here's the onramp, which has around 40,000 cars using it each day for the morning commute.

Here's another three-way that I made sort of recently. Also, I've wanted to show this one for a while, but the prop pox ruined the city before I could develop the surrounding area enough.

Specifically, that's called a half-clover interchange. There's one right near my house (the Wikipedia "notable example")...the weaving is quite a problem at times; I've made a couple in SimCity so far, with extra lanes to minimize the issue: Also, here's what I usually make now for urban T-interchanges (just think of it without the outer highway for the general example).

Would they be included here... The link is under picture "5" No, those are different than the ones I'm looking for. Srainy made a few different color schemes, I think there was green and a yellow/orange or something like that. Thanks anyway, though; the one you linked to is also nice.

I was wondering if there is any place at all where one can find the Guangzhou Elevated Trains (Asian Games) by Srainy. They're no longer on the STEX, and when I searched on SimCity China, I found only the red version, which I already have. I am looking for the other color schemes, if anyone could help me find them.

I like your sunken rail network in the suburbs. Nice job with that. I also noticed that you have multiple station props for some RTMT GLR-avenue stations appearing on top of each other (last picture). I used to get this; there was an update for RTMT released that fixed it. You might want to check that out.

Here is a university in the suburbs that span the area between two major urban centers.

Finally back to SimCity; I had been troubleshooting for a few days when I couldn't build a bridge where I wanted to, but I fixed it.

Hi, I just saw some cool buildings in a screenshot and I was hoping that someone could point out to me their names. I would like to know the name of the large brown tenement in the lower left corner of the shot, as well as those of the pink/orange apartment buildings with green roofs scattered throughout the left edge of the picture.

SC4 Startup Manager - manage your plugins!
Moonraker0 replied to Andreas Roth's topic in SC4 - Custom Content
I'm not sure if the program is still being developed, but if it is, I think a great feature to have would be copying profiles. I have a lot of folders in my plugins, which means that when I want to, for example, use different tram or elevated train skins for different cities in one region, I need to re-select from a hundred folders the same ones as the existing profile, but with only one difference in the end, and usually I forget one folder or add one folder and make a change that I didn't mean to. It would be easier if I could copy/duplicate the existing profile and make that small change in the new copy. I would be very happy if this was added in a new version. I'm probably going to start DATPacking again soon, so I guess it won't matter as much then, though. I also use the File Moving server because the other one doesn't work for me. It takes a while to work, though, so I would like to get the other method working if there's a way. I use Windows Vista 64-bit; has anyone had success making the Injection server work on a similar system? @GMT: I occasionally have the same problem on my main computer. My laptop with the same config file gets it every time. What I do is, like you said, make backups of the configuration file for Startup Manager in my Documents folder. If it happens every time, a workaround I use is to make the file read-only in its properties whenever I'm not trying to change profiles; this way, SUM cannot corrupt the file, and having it read-only doesn't cause any problems, except for it needing to update any changed region thumbnails every time it loads. I get around the inability to edit profiles by changing them on my main computer and copying the file to my laptop, setting it as read-only then. Anyway, Startup Manager is a very useful program; I don't know what I'd do without it. -
I plopped these in one city, but the overlay textures for the paths kept randomly changing from "red brick" to "open paved" as time passed or when I zoomed in or out. I don't think I could have installed any texture pack wrong, although I don't know what you used by looking at the dependencies. Could you help me out with this?

Good job guys; and nice work, Io_bg, with that last shot in particular. You made good use of the AVE-2, trees, and hills, and the overall result looks amazing.

Blast, I never even realized I wasn't getting email updates for watched forum topics, and now I have old replies I never knew about. :/

I just spent the last hour or so making a cloverleaf that doesn't have any weaving. I just finished it and haven't started the city yet, so no high mast lights or trees this time.
