Update 86 - HAWTHORNE: Eisenhower Park Neighborhood Now down to the southwest side and the City of Hawthorne. It seems like this is our first look at Hawthorne. This is the newest area of Hawthorne that I built at least six months ago. Much of it is a recreation of an area in Chicago. Even schools are placed in the same spot, and the parks are similarly designed. I hope you enjoyed this more conventional update that I put together today. In-game projects limited my preparation this week. Hawthorne was...

Update 77 - South Martin: Commonwealth Field We cruise back down to the south side along Sapphire Lake. Welcome to Commonwealth Field home of the Martin Crusaders WFL football team. Commonwealth Stadium seats 80,000 and features a retractable roof and natural grass field. Commonwealth Field: home of the Martin Crusaders WFL football team. You are here. Ended up putting a football stadium along the lake. Much more pleasant than just out next to a freeway interchange. Hope you enjoy it. Teemu did an...

Update 67 - ST PAUL: Updated Downtown and Riverfront I am finally giving some attention to Martin's southern neighbor, St. Paul. Last time we saw St. Paul was in update 5! It was basically just St. Paul's Cathedral surrounded by brownstone apartments on a Christina River peninsula. Now, the downtown has grown and at least ten high-rises have sprung up surpassing St. Paul's Cathedral in height. The riverfront has also been spruced up with new embankments and parks. A little teaser from the next penisula...

Update 104 - Halleck Square Neighborhood Today we will visit Halleck Square Neighborhood. This neighborhood happens to sit on the borders of three city tiles in SC4, so the pictures are all from a massive mosaic/composite created from images from each of the city tiles. I didn't do the best job, and I think I need to slow down my update schedule to once every two weeks. Hope you enjoy this. Can you spot the composite? This area blended together pretty well. So many churches within this 1/4 square mile....

Update 09 - Portland Township Travelling on D67, D42, and D31 Here is my first stab at roadgeekery in this MD. I've done a few drive-thrus like this before in my Cambellsport, Rabourn, and Sessquenna regions, but in the District of Wenzel I will try to go really in depth with signs (down to speed limits, loose gravel, etc.) I credit dfnva's roadgeekery style. Just a note on these first few updates, especially this one. As you'll see in this update, the signs are NOT uniform since I pretty much...

Update 90 - HOHLER: West Side Today we will explore the latest developments in the region. This is the "West Side" of Hohler. The old city grid is present between the two sets of railroads. Beyond the tracks, however, Hohler has more curvy suburban style roads. ABOVE: Fort Orangeport Drive BELOW: South 80th Street. North of the tracks, we can see suburban style development encroaching on farmland around N20 South Ogden Avenue. Expanding suburban neighborhood north of the commuter rail line. Industry along...

Update 14 - Westward Expansion South of Brittany River Now we will look south of Brittany River as Martin expands south and west. I am pleased with the great urban wall to wall apartment buildings created by goofyguytpa available in the STEX at Simtropolis. Also many of the industries are from jestarr and the incredible BATers with the Barry Sanders Project. I suggest opening in another tab/window the region map of the District of Wenzel, so you can see where exactly we are travelling. District of...

Update 74 - Northeast: Carnegie, Honey Creek, Chester Lake We move to northeast Martin today. The grid is nearly non-existant up here as the streets mimic the path of a nearby railroad. Just across the North Lakefront Drive to the east is Northeastern Martin University (not pictured in this update). The map for this area is not 100% complete. Fireworks explode over Chester Lake and Lincoln Terraces. Teaser shot of next time...or maybe Update 76 depending on if I decide to make Update 75 a special update!...

Update 54: BAYVIEW: First Look Lately, I have been scattered all over the region building up towns, cities, neighborhoods, etc. Today, I got the itch to start planning the corridors of some other north-south National Highways 41 and 43, and also some initial planning for some freeways, focusing on a north-south stretch along the lakefront within the N-41 corridor. Martin County is really only in the N-45 corridor with N-43 and N-41 corridors typically located further east. Of course the Martin Metro area...

Update 32 - Garfield Park and Portland Creek Vicinity This update is a little scattered though most of it focuses on North 40th Street and West Washington Avenue. The mosaics cover a few neighborhoods - Garfield Park (around 40th and Washington), Marshall Peninsula (area between the Brittany River and Portland Creek), and Washburn (west of 48th and north of Washington). I will have future updates focusing more on each of these neighborhoods individually, but for now, enjoy some great overviews. Night view...

Update 10 - Driving Down D31 to Hohler The next three updates will follow D31 south through Hohler, Hawthorne, and St. Paul. This update we will pick up from where we left off at the intersection of D240 and D31. This is a night update since the sun had gone down by the end of the last drive, so we will drive a few miles to the Village of Hohler and then rest until morning. I hope you like the lighting effect I add using GIMP to simulate headlights, since if we were driving at night we wouldn't really be...

Ouisconsin County - Exploring the Ouisconsin River <DoW Update 111:02.10.15> Welcome to a new phase for the District of Wenzel. We are moving to a different area of the district. This area dubbed Ouisconsin is about 300 miles northwest of Martin County. Now we go back before civilization reached the forests of the District of Wenzel. About 300 miles to the southeast, Martin Town has been establish at the mouth of Brittany River along the shores of Sapphire Lake. Surveyors were sent out along the various...

Update 83 - JEFFERSON: Newberg's Creek and Fremont Pocket Now we are on the other side North I-55 on the northeast side of the City of Jefferson. The extreme northeast area contains a few subdivisions in between Newberg's Creek, I-55, railroad, and N-45. South of West Monticello Drive and west of North 16th Street is a little pocket of the City of Martin called Fremont Pocket. Little subdivision tucked in between the railroad, West Virginia Road, N-45, and Newberg's Creek. Not the greatest location,...

Update 106 - Building Interdistrict 255 / National Highway 41 in St. Paul For the next five updates we shift to the Saint Paul area south of Martin. In this update, we see some images of I-255 being pulled through the northwest area of Saint Paul. I think this area turned out beautifully. The freeway weaves over and under roads very naturally like in real life. I hope you like it! Preparing land for I-255 / N-41 overpass. Completed overpass. Preparing County Highway Z for an overpass. I'm having trouble...

Update 27 - Downtown Martin - West Town Sorry for the long delay! This is my first update in four months. Since the last update, I have had to completely rebuild the West Town tile which had been plagued with Prop Pox. Well the tile is rebuilt, the map complete, and here is the first in a series of updates of Downtown Martin/West Town. I included labels for a few of the Wenzel Transit Authority Metro stations. I didn't label all of them I noticed. At the bottom of this mosaic is the government center of...

Update 76 - Northeastern Martin University: Academic Facilities Now for the north part of Northeastern Martin University. Academic halls, residence halls, research facilities, art centers, etc, are located along the lakefront. ABOVE: NEU College of Medicine including a teaching university hospital. BELOW: The northernmost section of campus includes more athletic facilities: Crown Swimming Center and Norris Field House. The academic hub of NEU. East Orchard Avenue bridge over Honey Creek. East Lanswell...

Update 66 - Fort Orangeport Drive: Sheridan Park Neighborhood We move north of Old Axelrod to Fort Orangeport Drive. Yikes, I have nothing really to say about this update. As you can see, these pictures are pre-freeway. Mulholland Avenue shopping district and Chester Mulholland High School. Hope you enjoyed this little update. Fort Orangeport Drive was inspired by Garfield Blvd in Chicago. Check out the District of Wenzel Street Map to get an idea where we are.

Update 99 - MARTIN - Brittany River North Bank Development My next project will be filling out and expanding the City of Martin to the north and west. Today we will visit the North Bank neighborhood on the north bank of Brittany River. I upgraded the flora to seasonal, reinstalled the excellent Appalacian Terrain Mod (as my laptop seems to handle it much better than my old laptop), and upgraded Brittany River Highway and railroad to FAR and FARR. The street map is also getting more and more information...

Update 33 - Marshall Peninsula Neighborhood As promised here is a closer look at the neighborhood on Marshall Peninsula. City spreads out into old farmland. Workshops, a grocery store, and a gas station now sit at the intersection on North 40th Street and West Marshall Ave. Duffy Park on the corner of West Marshall Avenue and North 48th Street. Sawyer Avenue Elementary School at the corner of West Sawyer Avenue and North 42nd Street. 48th Street and Brittany River Highway Line 6 Purple WTAM Station...

Update 78 - HOHLER: Mayers Estates We move west a few miles to the eastern edge of the Village of Hohler, Mayers Estates. Butler Mayers was a wealthy land owner. Eventually he opened some of his land up for residential development for the increasing upper middle-class and wealthy-class. Thus Mayers Estates was born. When the new neighborhood began development, it was still relatively remote, though the Village of Hohler was only half a mile to the west and the University of Wenzel - Martin campus was north...

Update 18 - Near East Side - Ivanhoe Terraces Sorry for being late a day on the update. The girlfriend and I went to Shanghai and I didn't have a chance in the little bit of free time with shoddy internet to upload the update, but I'm really excited to get it up now. We move kitty-corner from Cramer Neighborhood, north of E Sherman Ave and west of N Webster Ave to Ivanhoe Terraces. The neighborhood is bordered to the west by Orchard Creek, to the south by E Sherman Ave, to the east by N Webster Ave, and...

Update 71 - PENELOPE POINT: Riverside Suburb More images from the Village of Penelope Point along the Penelope River. I-255, I think I might work on I-255 the rest of the week...figuring out how to work it through Downtown Martin. South Villanova Circle. I had one more mosaic that I created for this area, but it technically falls in the category of South Martin and Martin, so I decided to save it for a future update. Not sure where I will go for the next update - North to Commonwealth Field or West towards...

Update 56 - Brittany River South Bank: 76th Street to 44th Street Today, we will look at development along the south bank of the Brittany River. Pictures will include development between Baltimore Avenue, 76th Street, Brittany River, and around 44th Street. Also included are some shots of "new" development west of 72nd Street south of Baltimore Avenue. Undisturbed farmland along the south bank of the Brittany River. Development starts to overtake the beautiful fields. Development in the shadow of Anchor...

Update 96 - ST PAUL: Beachview - Updating the Flora Talk about a long time between updates. District of Wenzel is back after one and a half years! Last time we saw Hawthorne with fall colors. Well that theme continues as I am going through and updating my flora and MMPs to seasonal stuff and just better stuff. Today we visit the north part of the City of St. Paul, Beachview. Let's finish up this tile and update the flora! Old seawalls that just don't hug the coast. Oh, some incomplete plopped grass and all...

Update 59 - East I-80: 80th Street to 48th Street We continue east (the bottom of the pictures) along Interdistrict 80. Today we will first see some views of Washburn Neighborhood pre-freeways. Then we will follow I-80's course through the neighborhood. Washburn Park, the jewel of the neighborhood, includes four ballparks and a library on 56th Street. Cadwallader Colden Washburn High School Surviving factories and workshops on 48th Street. In previous updates, we saw how a number of old industrial...
