Founded initially as a Roman settlement, the iconic coastal city of Barcelona has a rich history spanning over 2,000 years. Over the years, its evolved into one of Europe's most popular destinations and has become well known for its famous landmarks and unique architecture. We'll start off with a look into the past - a view of the city's bustling port in the late 1500s. Since its founding, the city has benefited from being located at a strategic location as one of the continent's most important ports for centuries.

Today, the same area is virtually unrecognizable. It's now best known as the location of the iconic Columbus Monument and the end of the city's famous tree-lined La Rambla street.

The massive Camp Nou stadium can be found in the center of the city and has served as the home of FC Barcelona since 1957.

The Montjuïc Communications Tower, also known as Torre Calatrava, is a telecommunication tower in the city's Montjuïc neighborhood. Designed by architect Santiago Calatrava and built from 1989-1992 for the Olympic Games, this elegant monument rises 446 feet and can be seen from many points in the city.

The Barcelona Pavilion was the German Pavilion for the 1929 International Exposition and was designed by architects Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Lilly Reich. It's recognized as a modernist classic today and is another one of the city's famous architectural landmarks.

The Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família - or just Sagrada Familia - is Barcelona's most iconic landmark. Designed by renowned Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí, construction was initially started on March 19, 1882 - but due to numerous setbacks over the years, construction is still ongoing - and for much of the late 20th century, looked similar to the scene below.

When it's finally finished in 2026, the Sagrada Familia will truly be a sight to behold.

What a sight. I don't see as much of Barcelona in Asphalt 8 as I do here, which is ironic because that game is developed by the Gameloft division residing in the city...

OMG!

Barcelona is one of my favourite cities where I've been so far. I've visited it 3-4 times in the last couple of years and plan to visit it in a couple of months. The details are awesome, the last picture with the marina is truly awesome.

Well, I'm wondering if you will be able to recreate the other side of the bay with the fortress and the container port etc, and the W Hotel, and the area of the aquarium and Maremagnum...

Fun fact: indirectly the seaport of Barcelona inspirated the creaton of the Heretic SeaPort Project.

Really great work, thanks for making it!

@Tyberius06 Thank you for the comment and suggestions - the update was starting to get a bit big so I couldn't cover everything, but if I do revisit Barcelona again or perhaps do a historical update, then I'll definitely consider finishing off some of the areas that you mentioned *:thumb:

@juguesal Thank you very much! *:)

@RobertLM78 Appreciate the nice words as always! *:)

I really love how you work with parks and MMPs :) and of course how you make the lots look so much different and complex. Makes me want to learn how to edit :read:

Despite the compromises you had to make in this update due to the flagrant lack of quality BATs in the "market", my answer to this update is...

@buzzoff67 Thank you very much for the nice words! Lot Editing can take a while to get used to at first, but once you get used to it, it can really transform the look of your cities - I'd definitely recommend trying it out.

Excellent work on the city scape, the recreational areas parks and plaza's seem especially vibrant and lively. Always heard Barcelona is a beautiful city and the entry indeed does it justice. Small side note, the textures on the Torre Agbar seem a little off but ofc only so much one can with a limited selection of bats for specific areas.
