After taking a look at Rome in the last couple of updates, we're now taking a look at another one of Europe's great cities - the capital of Germany, Berlin. The city is filled with famous monuments - and the first couple that we'll visit are located on the banks of the Spree River. The Alte Nationalgalerie (the long museum at the top of the picture) was opened in 1876 and houses an impressive collection of artwork and is one of the city's most popular attractions. The Berliner Dom towards the bottom part of the mosaic was opened in 1905 and is one of Europe's most impressive cathedrals.

The Victory Column (Siegessaule) and its roundabout can be found in the Tiergarten - opened in 1873, it was built to commemorate the Prussian victory in the Danish-Prussian War.

The Reichstag was originally opened in 1894 to house the German Empire's Imperial Diet. A massive fire in the 1930s along with damage from World War II led to the structure falling into disuse as the parliament used other buildings in the city. Eventually, it was partially refurbished in the 1960s and had an entire renovation in the 1990s, giving it a unique, modern look. The building once again is home to the German parliament.

Rotes Rathaus (Red Town Hall) is another one of the city's most famous landmarks - opened in 1869, it serves as the home of the mayor and the government of the Federal state of Berlin.

The Fernsehturm TV Tower is Berlin's most prominent landmark - rising 1,198 feet tall, its the tallest building in Germany. The views from the top are truly extraordinary.

Fernsehturm is located close to Alexanderplatz - one of the city's most famous squares and one of its most vital transport hubs for over 100 years.

Absolutely wonderful. Berlin is definitely one of the cities in my bucket list  I hope the real thing looks as good as this or @TekindusT's Berlin recreation.

Good job! :thumb:

Ohohohoh, home game here!! As an adopted Berliner, I can only take my hat off seeing this update, seriously. Some parts of the pictures are ridiculously close to the reality, you even placed the public toilets next to the Dom...

Still, I can't avoid commenting in just a couple of teeny tiny things for the recreation:
1) You used the Reichtag's BAT available at the LEX, work of the SFBT. Although it is a huge quality BAT, it depicts how the Reichtag was before the 1933 fire, with that beautiful squared dome on top. That dome was destroyed both in the 1933 fire and in the Battle of Berlin in 1945; rebuilt by Norman Foster in the 90s in a post-modern style. The BAT would be perfect for a historical Berlin recreation though.
2) You depicted Alexanderplatz station with three pairs of tracks, but it has only 2 in reality. I assume you had to do it to fit the trackage into the station roof, so no big deal. Also, the cobblestone street next to it is closed to traffic besides trams.

These are just details, please don't take them as a critique. The update is magnificent as usual! Needless to say, I'll happily solve any question in case you have them for the 2nd part!

My recreation is child's play in comparison with korver's work here!

Do I spy with my little eye @feyss beautiful sidewalk texture? :P It certainly fits well.

Really super work. Alexanderplatz is really good, along with the Spree scene. I did notice the Reichstag thing, as @TekindusT pointed out, though I don't think there's a modern one available?

Very good work - just as good as I remember Berlin, so I'm super excited for part 2.

Quick question, what is the building to the top left corner of the base of the Fernsehturn? (The one that looks like a 3 sided W2W building)

And in the Reichstag image, the top left, by the park corner, there is a white corner W2W building - do you know the name?

That's funny because it looks exactly about what I had in plan to do one year ago after the 'actual places' Simtropolis challenge, but unfortunately I hadn't the motivation to finish it.

It's interesting to see how you manage to do things. For instance, I was struggling to find a solution to build the wall surrounding the Alte Nationalegalerie, but here you had found a solution! Same for the Alexanderplatz train station, by using the Amsterdam Centraal station's roof. I was planning to use the 4 tracks elevated rail station seen in Fasan's Krokanien MD but the japanese website from where it was from doesn't exist anymore...

What will it be next? A'dam or Vienna maybe? ;)

@_Michael You're right I think! But to be honest, I didn't even pay attention at first place since it looked just so natural and realistic.

@kelistmac Thank you very much! I was thinking of some of your great Berlin pictures from a while back when I was working on this - they were really an inspiration when I first started playing SC4. Glad you liked it!

@matias93  Thanks for the comment *:thumb:

@SC4L0ver Thanks for the nice comment! Glad you liked it *:)

@VicRusty  Thank you very much for the kind words!

@TekindusT Thanks for the nice words! Great getting some feedback from a Berliner too - much appreciated *:) You would certainly be right about the Reichstag - I knew about that other one in the back of my mind, but I guess I was too caught up with how pretty the SFBT one that I forgot the roof was wrong *:P If I did it over again, I definitely would have gone down the the historical recreation route though for that picture (I'm actually still planning one more update(s) in this area before the end of the year, so stay tuned though *;))

And yeah, unfortunately I couldn't find anything else to use for the train station so I had to go with the three tracks - good point however on the road being closed. Thanks for the pointers though again, glad you liked the update *:thumb:

@_Michael Thank you very much for the comment! Yep, it's feyss' great texture - it was a perfect fit for the city *:) There actually was another more modern one but I sorta forgot about it - I probably would have used that one instead if I remembered about it *:P (or just make a historical recreation using the SFBT one instead).

Also, the two buildings you mentioned can be found here:

@feyss Thanks for the nice comment! I saw some of your lovely pics in the challenges about a year ago and they certainly gave me some great inspiration for this recreation! It took a while to find some of those close replacements - but they turned out pretty nice and I'm glad you liked them *:) I've given some thought to a couple other European cities like Amsterdam and Frankfurt, but I also want to fit in a few Asian/US cities too before the end of the year so we'll see if I have enough time *;)

@mike_oxlong Thank you very much for the kind words - glad you enjoyed it *:)

@Scribosilyn Thank you very much! It's actually not a SAM override but a great cobblestone road override that vortext graciously sent me a while back *:)

There's a new one available somewhere in the exchanges, but the scaling is off and the texturing is not really good... I have it installed and never used it.

Just catching up on notifications here.... been taking a break from the internets.

Real nice work @korver  *:8)

Is there any chance you'll be swinging by Hamburg?

Thanks for stopping by @RobertLM78 - glad you liked it *:thumb:

I've thought about it in the past, but there aren't really that many BATs available from Hamburg - so at this point it's probably unlikely.

I'm probably going to do Frankfurt though, or at least a picture or two from it. Gotta put that Diego Del Llano Commerzbank Tower BAT to good use *;)

Finally got the time to thoroughly admire this update!

With a decent amount of landmarks made both by Maxis and creators like Debussyman, it definitely was time to see a recreation of Berlin, and who better to do it than the one and only korver. This is one of my favourite cities in the whole world! I dream of going there and studying in Germany one day. in the meantime I'll admire your amazing recreation. Danke schön!

I really should come over here more often.

Thank you for the comment @kschmidt!

The Alexanderplatz station is indeed a custom lot - I used the roof from the JENX Amsterdam Station and offset it a bit/did a little work in Lot Editor to have it sit directly over top of the elevated rail lines.
