Hi everyone!

My name is Andre and i'm a long time SimCity 4 player, used to play it so much that the original cd eventually cracked an broke. Life put me away from it for many years now, but i saw it on GOG a few weeks ago and decided to come back again, what a blast it has been to play again the game i would spend hundreds of hours on.

I'm actually a long time member of the community, I made an account back in the early days of simtropolis, mainly for downloads but for the forums too.

Sadly said account has been long lost, so i decided to come back with a fresh face and rejoin the family.

Hi Andre and welcome back to SC4 and Simtropolis. *:)

Glad you could re-join the community, and we're pleased to confirm SC4 is still going strong with new content being made regularly. If ever you did wish to recover your old account, we could try and look that up for you. Otherwise it sounds a great idea to make a fresh start and getting into mayoral things again.

Hello,

Found an Old Dell Optiplex 755. It was corrupted. I used Hirens, Put Ubuntu, used that to put win 8.1 on USB Boot, replaced Ubuntu with 8.1(Updates OFF!!! lol) and have an Operational PC. And the ONE Game it will still run at 2GB RAM? Yeah Baby..........................SC4 Forever yo's, was on here a looooooong time ago, before I had my kids lol. Hope all have been well. This thing will come to a crawl if I stuff it with add ons so Ima have to be choosy but its so nostalgic and cool to be back on this site. Glad to see you've kept it running all these years. The region creation tools have certainly come a long way as well.

Anyway, glad to be back on and see everyone round the exchange!!!

Hiya, @Master SqueakyEye. Welcome back to the game and Simtropolis. *:)

I played for a couple of years on an XP comp with a mere 2 GB RAM and it was plenty good enough for me. Just like you intend to do, I kept mods to a minimum. I added the various terrain and water mods and a minimal NAM install just to get the SAM streets and a few other things like wide radius curves.

Hi @Master SqueakyEye and welcome to Simtropolis. *:8)

That's excellent how you got SC4 running on an older computer which needed repairing with the setup. It's very much still chugging along is the community we're pleased to say, and you'll find there's multitudes of content which is still being made on quite a regular basis.

See you on the forums!  (Oh wait. We are already there technically.)

Hi @clw2147 and welcome to Simtropolis and back to SC4! *:8)

This topic is an excellent starting point for content suggestions:

As pictured I highly recommend Cori's No Kickout in particular which I see as a must have mod.

Also take a look through Cori's Shoppes for lists of graphical mods which take your fancy.

Lots to explore and feel free to post in new and existing topics for anything you'd like assistance with on the resumption of your mayoral journey.

Hiya, @clw2147. Welcome to ST for your renewed journey with the game. *:)

Btw, if you like to play any of the original Maxis regions there are now versions of them on the STEX with much better layouts for city tile sizes. Keep this in mind if you like to play in Timbuktu because that particular region is also where the tutorials are and in certain situations Maxis sometimes decides to wipe out all of your hard work and replace it with the original.

If you'd like linkys to those, let us know. I reconfigured a couple of them and CB created the rest recently so he could easily post where to find them. (Ofc, you might prefer a custom map of your own making or one of the million hosted here or on Devotion.)

@CorinaMarie sure, i'd like to take a look at them.  i was never partial to making my own regions, probably because i wasn't very good at it

@Cyclone Boom  wasn't sure what the no kickout mod was for at first, but now that i'm really looking at some of my practice cities i'm seeing alot of high wealth buildings in low wealth areas.  i never noticed that it does that before.  i'll definitely be using this mod.  thanks

CB is compiling the list as we speak.

@clw2147

Tiny tip: For the @mention thinger, if you type the @ sign then just start typing a member name, it should pop up a list as it see what matches. (This lets it be in blue and sends a beep (notification).

@clw2147

Sounds great. You'll find NKO really transforms the gameplay, and the great thing too it can be used perfectly fine in existing cities. *:)

And here are those Maxis maps if you're interested in them sometime:

  • Timbuktu Too
Maxis region with 4 versions to choose from (including 4x4 all Large tiles).
  • New York
Maxis region as 4x4 all Large tiles.
  • Berlin
Maxis region as 4x4 all Large tiles + Maxis cities version (optimised mostly Large region layout).
  • Fairview
Maxis region as 2x2 all Large tiles.
  • Kanto Tokai
Maxis region as 4x4 all Large tiles.
  • London
Maxis region as 4x4 all Large tiles+ Maxis cities version (optimised mostly Large region layout).
  • San Francisco
Maxis upscaled region as 4x4 all Large tiles + Alternative layout (original scale).

Hi, I'm a big fan of any type of City/Empire builder. played SimCity Classic, 2000 3000 and Rush Hour. Civ I to V, and all the Tropico's, Banished, Children of the Nile, Caesar IV, Transport Fever and many other builder or transport games.

Actually I register mainly to do a story based on Tropico 6, as i saw others have done something similar with Banished. But for some reason I cant post in the "Other Builder" section, hope someone can help me with that.

Hi @Tamijo and welcome to Simtropolis. *:)

I see you've managed to post your topic in a suitable forum, so looks like you're all set now.

Here it is:

It looks creative with making a story there, and it does remind me of Banished which I remember @catty-cb posting about.

Glad to be here, stil got a disk copy of SC4 that I may be able to reg. at Steam (no CD drive in my PC), if or rather when you inspire me to do another city.

For now I guess it will be all in on my Tropico story, it kind of surprises me how much the family's go trough, when you dig deeper into every persons life.

Steam does not read the SC4 Disc serial key. I recommend you buy it on GOG or Steam

Sure, guess then I will wait for a sale on the game, quite steep for a game almost 20 years old.

Likely there are still some SC13 players around who still play the online mode. (Link to your reply here in case anyone sees this post.)
