Hello everyone! My name is Rob and I'm a real estate development grad student at Georgia Tech.

I got into SC4 years ago when I was little and discovered my love for it again after finding the game on GOG in September. I joined this forum to see if I can get into BATing since I have a lot of experience with 3D architectural modeling and I'd like to import some of my projects into the game.

Hi @CGF and welcome to Simtropolis. *:)

You've made an excellent choice picking up SC4 for the first time.

No worries asking here, but I've just moved your question on seaport bugs to a new topic. This way it'll be more visible for anyone else to answer in reply. Another bonus is for people searching for the same question in future, they'll be led to the solution similarly. *;)

As Capt said, we're happy to help however we can with anything about SC4 especially. All the best commencing your mayoral duties!

I guess I never introduced myself - anyway just a dude who is shy of 40 from the northeast part of the Hoosier state.  I've played all SimCity series up to SC5, at which point I gave up on the series. I picked up SC4 on GoG during the whole quarantine phase but didn't do much with it...got fed up with some of the unrealistic aspects of the vanilla version.  Then a video popped up on my YT one day, and I saw it...the ever infamous NAM...so loaded up SC4 and d/l NAM.  Started doing more and fi ding more, and now I am addicted again.  Thanks for all you great modders who really brought this 18 year old game back to life and fully enjoyable.  And thanks for this community answering my questions to get the game where I want it to be.  Stop on over by "Hettelsberg" and see what crazy shenanigans I can get up to

Hi @Tubthumper and welcome to Simtropolis. *:)

It's great you're getting into the swing of things on the forums already. As you've discovered, the realms of custom content is what greatly expands the possibilities for mayoral inventiveness. Since SC4 is such an open-ended game, it appeals to our imaginations in the broadest creative sense.

We hope you enjoy it here for all that's worthwhile exploring on your city-building adventure.

Hello all! I'm new to modding SimCity but have always loved the game. I actually just made an account because I donated to download the STEX collections! It seems like an awesome way of getting a bunch of mods easily!

Hiya, @sambal_bilis. Welcome back to Simtropolis. *:)

Does your old account have any content associated with it? (Like posts or STEX entries?) If so, @Cyclone Boom or I could help you recover it.

Hi All,

Looks like a great site.   Please share any message board etiquette I ought to know.  I have several questions regarding SC4, but am hesitant to start any new threads until after I searched existing threads for the answers.   It's been 15 years since I played SC and I'm thinking of buying SC4.   If you'd like to know more about me ask away.   Thanks for having me.

-Andrew

Hiya, Andrew. Welcome to Simtropolis. *:)

Basic courtesy as you've shown is really the main rule. All the others like thread bumping being taboo and other old guard mentality no longer apply so it's pretty safe to explore and post as you like. Feel free to create a new topic if you have a slew of questions. Many peeps find it's like their own personal thread for getting help which is relevant to themselves.

Ofc, you can also post in an existing topic if it almost, but doesn't quite, answer your aspect of a question.

So, have fun and jump right in.

Hi Andrew and welcome to Simtropolis. *:)

We very much encourage posting in new and/or existing topics. Even in older threads which take your fancy too it's fine. There did used to be an old rule which was to prevent topic bumping, which was quite strictly enforced. Nowadays we're more relaxed, so feel free to post to your heart's content. As staff we like to see our moderation tools to help with organising topics with moving them around when needed. So we'll take care of anything like that to help you.

It sounds a great idea to get back into SC4 again. You might find the GOG version worth getting, which they often have seasonal sales at 75% off. If so, a wise move once purchased is to download the standalone version which doesn't depend on their Galaxy client. Then the game can run on its own independently, just as Maxis designed.

See my post here for details on that.
