Hi Flutter, and welcome to Simtropolis! *:8)

As it happens, the Flutter account you mention has long since been inactive and has no posts associated. So if you'd like we can switch over the username to your account here. That way you'd be @Flutter and the older one then becomes Flutter1. If so, just reply below to confirm and that can be easily sorted.

Upon changing and you'll then sign in with this as your new username (without the trailing 1).

Hey yall. Just checking in. Been doing civilization building games for a few years now. Finally made the hop to actual city planning games. Just got SimCity 4 so I'm still monkeying around and trying to learn the hows of playing.

Hi @WakaMetalbelly and welcome to Simtropolis. *:)

That's a good choice I must say with focussing on SC4. It can be easy to quickly get overwhelmed with custom content when playing for the first time. As such, first learning the basic mechanics of the game with minimal mods sure goes a long way to discovering how things work. The simulation is very detailed, with lots packed in and endless possibilities. So by experimenting with trying different techniques of city building, it certainly can help you find a style of strategy which works for you.

If you've any questions feel free to post in new and existing topics, and we hope you enjoy the site and community.

I'm not exactly sure what I'm suppose to say here. I've been playing SimCity Cities of Tomorrow for a few weeks now. (Actually started in 2017 but started spending all my game time to World of Warcraft. I just recently got kind of bored with that, still play it but not as epic, and came back to SimCity.) I'm finding a tad frustration in that I can't find a manual to explain how certain aspects of the game works. Such as that message line that pops up at the top of my screen, "Police arrest criminal to a greatfull (name of the city)". Or, "Blaze burns building down, hope it's not your home. More at 11." I'm trying to find where I can read the past messages as some go by so fast I can't read them all the way though. And I really don't understand that RCI thing. Nothing I do seems to keep a balance.

Hope this was what I was suppose to do for the introduction. :D

Hiya, @Vachon8449. Welcome to Simtropolis. *:)

The Cities of Tomorrow is a part of the the SimCity game released in 2013. Since they decided to not add a number to it everyone refers to it as SimCity 2013 to distinguish it from others in the series such as SimCity 4. We do have a dedicated SimCity 2013 forum which then has 5 sub forums. The downside is the game was not well received by the public and there are very few peeps who play or follow it.

Yep, that's a fine introduction. It lets everyone know what your interests are and what brought you here. *:)

For your specific questions about the game, I feel you'd have a better chance for replies over in SimCity (2013) General Discussion. Once you get there, click the big pinkish-red button that says "Start New Topic". For the Title, maybe go with "Questions about the news messages and RCI". For tags, maybe "news" and "RCI". Then in the editor box area you could copy and paste the game related part of your above post.

You might notice that all SC2013 topics generally get very few, if any replies so it could be a while before someone pops in with answers. (I'm just letting you know up front that it's not our most frequented area of the site.) I haven't ever played that version so, unfortunately, I've no idea how to help.

Good luck and again, welcome to our site.

Hey Vachon8449

Unfortunately I'm not familiar with SC2013, so I can't add anything to Cori's suggestions, but welcome to Simtropolis!

Hi @Vachon8449 and welcome to Simtropolis! *:8)

Personally I'm not so sure what to suggest either since I've also never played SC13. As Cori recommended, feel free to open a new topic in the linked forum, and hopefully there might be some people who are familiar with the inner mechanics who can offer gameplay tips and advice.

This might not function the same way, but I know from playing SC4 there are news ticker messages. Not all these are useful, and others can depend on trigger points after certain events occur. For instance when reaching a population threshold, or having high traffic congestion, and then other causes which can be responded to. Maybe a similar thing is the case for SC13 also, with some being hints as to what's happening in your cities, and others just random more quirky messages for fun. I'm just guessing though.

It is a nice first post you've posted, and we hope you enjoy it here.

Hi @fengp and welcome to the community. *:)

If you're into SC4, I know one renowned BAT team is the NYBT, so buildings named as such might be of particular interest.

If that .exe is just an installer, I believe you can use File Juicer to get the part out of it you need. If not, can you post a linky to it and I could extract it on Windoze to get the mod out.

And here I am. Give this one a try instead... *;)

The actual mod is the same as that packaged inside the executable file version you found, which is an installer for Windows systems. Once opening the zip archive, it'll be a case of copying the included gtm.dat file into your Plugins folder.

And welcome to Simtropolis! *:)

Thanks Cyclone Boom, put it in and it works like a charm. Now I can look around for add-on trees and such. It will take me a while to learn to navigate site. Thanks again.

You may find Cori's Shoppe series useful as resources which comprehensively list known cosmetic mods.

This includes rock, water, beach, terrain, and tree mods. There's so many to choose from, and so they're an excellent way to get a visual overview of the options available. An idea would be to pick a few to download, and then experiment individually to determine which combination you'd like to use to best suit specific regions you're developing. A consideration especially for water and terrain mods are how the city tile snapshots will need to be saved on all cities for them to get updated.

For tips with finding specific items of content, one useful way is using a targetted Google search which limits results to the STEX only. This can be done by filtering a search using the "site:" prefix. For example: <search term> site:community.simtropolis.com/files/

Oftentimes this can be a more reliable method than using the local site search engine.

Hey everyone, longtime fan of the SC franchise, been playing since I was a kid in the late 90's with the first installment. I've been a devoted fan of SC4 since its release and am so thankful for this site and its contributors. After being away from SC4 and the mods offered by this community for a few years, I'm getting back into the game with a fresh map and a renewed dedication to make gameplay the best it can possibly be. I'm looking forward to moving from forum lurker to an active member of this group of fanatics as well as seeing what is new in the catalogue of mods. Thanks!

Glad you could join us, and the SC4 community is still very much alive and well, even after all these years later. It's great you've decided to take part in the forums. Whether interested in the gameplay or artistic side of city building, there's so much scope of what can be achieved. We hope you enjoy the site.

I was always attracted to SC4's freedom to be completely creative with city building, starting from the terrain. My last full map took countless hours properly aligning mountain ranges, streams, lakes, etc. Not to mention the actual city building itself. It's a labor of love lol.

Thank you, looking forward to contributing in any small way I can this time instead of merely collecting mods. I've come to appreciate this forum in my old age 😂

That sounds like terraforming by hand in the game. I enjoyed that on my first major map, but later went with a whole different method which you may (or may not) have an interest in. Details here.

That is the most incredible modification I've ever seen and your step-by-step detail is both informative and easy to comprehend. I will definitely be working on CORIMAPS before I get too wrapped up in gameplay. I ALWAYS wanted a way to terraform before establishing individual city tiles. Thank you so very much!! Does this method of terraforming affect city borders in any way?
