Hi @BuilderBrux and welcome to Simtropolis! *:)

Being interested in graphics and design is bound to help inspire creativity in city building games. The CSL forums are active with players into the content creation side, and although I don't keep up much with happenings there myself (still being into SC4), I'm sure you'll find many like-minded folk there who can help you along the way.

Let us know if you've any questions about the site, and we hope you enjoy it here.

As a side note...

I upgraded your account to full Member privileges, and sorry how you somehow got caught in the registration security system earlier and were waiting as pending for a while. Sometimes this becomes a little too defensive, so we manually review accounts for approval in such cases. Rest assured you did no wrong at all. *;)

Thanks! And yes I like to apply some of my design skills to asset creation. It is an entirely new field to explore, which is pretty cool.

I use a VPN most of the time for security purposes, so the VPN-supplied IP address is probably what got me flagged in the security system.

Hi Ridwan, welcome to the community. *:)

You have some some great ideas there, and there are many possibilities to be inspired by your home country for city building in SC4. It's nice to see you've already posted in the Showcase forum, and that tropical scene there you created a few years ago is very impressive indeed, along with your train bridge image above. Looking through the STEX I'm sure you'll discover lots of content to help recreate scenery you're familiar with. You may find this list of MMPs useful for a few extras too for decorating landscapes.

I wish you all the best with your BAT project. The preview there of the temple looks very detailed already, and I can imagine people will appreciate additional Indonesian style BATs too. Using 3D modelling tools is something I've never been able to master myself, and it really must be a fine art that takes lots of skill and attention to detail.

It's an honour you could join us as a member of Simtropolis. Glad to hear you found the Intro Guide useful, and feel free to ask any questions if unsure of anything about the site. Also for anything about SC4 or custom content you're unsure about, and there are many helpful members who can lend a helping hand.

Thank you! @Cyclone Boom, that list really helped me in seeing various mmp which I haven't added to my plugin  of course I will also post my project at the bat showcase soon, the thread really helps me in finding information about the bat project  and I will ask when I have a problem

Google translate is an amazing tool. What you post is easy to read. I used the two-step method where I first typed my message in English. Then I will copy the translation made in another language and paste it into the conversion back to English. If it still makes sense, then I know the translation might make sense.

I open each one in a separate tab in my web browser:

sure it is the same as what I did when translating it through Google translate, yeah sometimes don't trust Google translate because the results of the translation will look weird and funny when read *

And then, ofc, you'll have to deal with Cori-Speak which is often silly. :O

I imagine you know the common abbreviations such as:

  • Cori = CorinaMarie = me
  • ofc = of course
  • atm = at the moment
  • RL = real life
  • IRL = in real life
  • afaik = as far as I know
  • iirc = if I remember correctly

And then those I use which are not as common:

  • prolly = probably
  • confuzzled = a cross between confused and puzzled (tho "puzzled" and "confused" both translate to "bingung" so you'll have to trust me that they are similar, but different in English)
  • linky = clickable URL link
  • peeps = people

So if anything I say does not make sense you can (after you finish laughing) ask me about it. *;)

Hello all, my name is Kaj, also known as the music producer ARTFX on YouTube. I recently rediscovered my childhood hobby of playing city building games and picked up Cities: Skylines. Since I already run a YouTube channel I decided it was time I start making videos on Cities: Skylines on a second channel, these will be coming soon.

I love realism, so most of my builds, screenshots and future videos will contain a highly detailed look. Anyways, glad to be here!

Hi Kaj, welcome to Simtropolis. *:8)

Sounds good about having a YouTube channel dedicated to your Cities: Skylines creations.

I see you're already discovered the CSL Showcase forum which is a great place to post city videos and screenshots. You may even wish to create one or more City Journals to document different series, and so then people can follow along. By pasting video URLs into the editor (including playlists), they can be embedded in reply.

Feel free to post links to your channel too. It's totally up to you, and we hope you enjoy the community.

Since I started right off the bat with posting pics, I suppose I should say hello.

So... hello. My name is Josh, otherwise known as Joshmaul, Emperor Joshmaul, etc. I live in the South Shore of Massachusetts... and I'm a megalomaniac. ("Hi, Josh!")

Started my empire-building in SimCity 2000 back in my native California around 1996 or so, with my dream city of cities, Underwood City, which is kind of like Calvinball - you know that it's great, 'cause it's named after me. :D It's been rebuilt in a number of different games, many many times over the years - few different SC2K builds, then SimCity 3000, then SC4/Rush Hour, then Societies (rebuilt as an authoritarian paradise, heh heh), then SC 2013 (with a bunch of SkyTowers in "Cities of Tomorrow"), and most recently in Cities: Skylines. My empire now also includes a colony in the Elysium region of Mars in "Surviving Mars".

Hiya, Josh. Welcome to Simtropolis! *:)

That's cool building Underwood City in each game. On a scale of Q to 12, which would you rate as your best?

Hi Josh and welcome!

I've seen your new album posted of your Underworld City, and it really is a very impressive diverse setting with a range of architectural styles. Feel free to keep posting pictures there or in the CSL Showcase forum (or even a City Journal). As a possible idea, perhaps you could do a timeline comparison sequence to show how Underworld City is represented in SC2K, SC3K, SC4, Societies, SC13, and leading to your current city building adventures in Cities: Skylines. Just something random which came to mind.

It's completely up to you, and we hope you enjoy it here too. *;)

Not sure, but somewhere between "oogy" and "boogy". *sage nod* In all seriousness, however...I've rebuilt it multiple times over the past two decades(!) and each game has their own charms. SC2K's got the nostalgia kick, as that's where it all started (and I've got it running on this monster machine and started building it again there, heh); 3K had the most memorable soundtrack; 4, going through the streets and highways with Rush Hour (which kinda makes me wish they had a Streets of SimCity type game); Societies, of course, I got into the....well, societal aspect of it (though I'm disappointed that I can't get any decent screenshots because of the texture blurring at distance, even at max settings...plus all the icons! Kinda ruins it when you've got a padlock hovering over the building in the middle of your screenshot), and being an Emperor I of course went with the authoritarian build, heh heh....SC2013, while the smaller build area leaves something to be desired, has gorgeous scenery (I'm a sucker for scenery), and Skylines...scenery, sheer scale and all the different categories for buildings. You've seen the pictures - and this is the third rebuild in that game, as the other two died with the hard drive in my laptop, so hoping third time (and Steam Cloud saving) is the charm!

I admit that thought has occurred to me, but that would largely depend on my computer's ability to cooperate with some of the older games. With some finangling (thank you PCGamingWiki), I've managed to get my old CD of SC2K Special Edition to install and run in Windows rather than resorting to DOSBox (which is what the Origin edition I got for free ages ago does), not sure if 3K will install at all. 4, Societies, and 2013 are all through Origin, though the trouble I have with 4 is that I haven't been able to run it in the "native" 1920x1080, and I get nitpicky Windows notifications if I don't run it in "native resolution", so we'll see...

(And thank you, by the way.)

Hey everyone. I'm Susanna, or Suzie. I go by cydonianmystery or Cydonian Mystery pretty much everywhere except Tumblr, where the username got grabbed by a bot account (go figure, lmao). I've been getting back into SimCity 4 after a long absence, and it overjoys me that the game still has such an active modding community.

I can't say I've made many mods myself, besides a plaza wall set that never got published. Basic BAT stuff, really. But who knows, maybe one day I can get back into things and do better. :D

Hiya, Suzie! Welcome to Simtropolis. *:) (I'm Cori, btw.)

I'm going to guess the Cydonian Mystery has something to do with that face on Mars. Anyhow, jump right into the forums reading, posting, helping, or asking questions. The game is still very much alive and there are players of all skill ranges and play styles.

Hi Suzie, and welcome to the community! *:8)

Glad to hear you've decided to get back to SC4. As you've discovered, it does still have a strong active presence here at ST after all these years.

For me personally, about the only BAT I've created wasn't much more than a basic box, and not even a textured brown parcel either. The great thing is through determination and perseverance, there's limitless potential in this creative hobby. Even if at first things don't seem simple, keep trying and you'll succeed.

There's many kind and helpful people here. So do ask any questions if unsure of anything about the game, along with creating (or using) custom content.

Welcome Suzie,

Pull up a chair, grab something to eat and smoke them (if u do). This is a great community. It's like a second home to me. I have been in the game since it came out. I have been a member since 2007 and never been disappointed with the content of the site. There is always something you might like from several creators here. So just think of what you might like to get and you'll probably find it here or you can be directed where you can get it.

Hi Hennessee and welcome to Simtropolis! *:)

Although activity for SC13 may not be as much as it once was, there might still be people who check in the Region Games forum for multiplayer games. I've not personally played it before, but there are a number of mods available for both the online and offline modes. We hope you enjoy the community here.

Hi @AdamP84 and welcome to Simtropolis! *:)

For anything related to the SimCity series, you've sure come to the right place. Glad you could join us, and particularly for SC4 there's still a very active community here, especially considering it's a 16 year old game. There's something different about city-building games, and they sure do inspire creativity.

As you'll find, there's so many useful resources around like these and this, and not to forget the abundance of custom content on the STEX (and the SC4Devotion LEX).

Feel free to ask any questions in the forums for any assistance, and we'll do our best to help.
