Hey. This is actually KillrChicken, but the original account lost its ability to use a password, and when I did a pass reset, it assigned me my true name. Any chance of getting my other account deleted as I can no longer access it no matter what I try and do?

There are options we can offer you on this front indeed.

Along with our admin tools for verifying your old account is yours, we'll send you a PM to ask a couple questions only you'd know the answer to.

Once that's taken care of, it would be possible for us to reset your password so you can regain access to your old @KillrChicken account. Then we could merge it with your newer one here which would delete it in the process. Alternatively we could merge your old account with this new one if you'd prefer. Merging means all content gets transferred over and consolidated to a single account to sign in with. Username can optionally be adjusted along with email and password afterwards.

An advantage of keeping your original account would be the old 2003 join date and user ID get preserved.

Let us know if you like any of these options.

We've fixed your avatar which didn't appear due to a glitch in the site software. Once changing your username, we'll reset the history so that way it doesn't show as FroggyMayor once changed over to your new MayorFrog username. Just reply confirming, and rest assured it's very easily done via our admin tools.

Hi y'all!

Man, I've been playing SimCity games since like 1989. I played SimEarth too. Goal was always to end with Lizard People

SimCity popped into my head today. But I couldn't find any of my game files. I've checked my SimCity3000 box and the CD must be 'somewhere else' in a jewel case. Started looking to see if there were any free versions since some of the versions are pretty old. But now that I've wasted 2 hours trying to find a playable version somewhere, I'm bored and disappointed. But it's cool to stumble upon this community! Glad people are still interested in this kind of game.

I've played the Android version (SimCity BuildIt) for a while but it started requiring a lot of "mayor grouping" sort of stuff. If I wanted a MMO, I'd play a different kind of game. Got tired of that.

Anyway, guess it's back to the bookshelves to look for my copies of various SimCity games. Unless there's an easy, cheap way to get one of them?

The original was given an open source release by the name of Micropolis. There's a couple of versions released for Windows (Here & Here) and most linux distros have it somewhere in their default package manager.

Edit: Additional: Don't buy the game from the link above. Plz use the link on the Simtropolis homepage, that way the site gets a tiny slice of the pie.

Hi @mm_reads and welcome to Simtropolis.

Great to hear you've decided to get back into the SimCity series again. That's a most excellent choice I must say, especially considering this is indeed still an active community focussed around city-building games. Primarily we're SC4 is the biggest focus given the sheer amount of custom content available and still being developed.

In terms of playing these classics nowadays, something to be wary about is the discs won't work on Win 10 (and probably not Win 11). This is because Microsoft removed the SafeDisc driver which many disc-based games (including SC4) need to validate and run.

So as @Whte_rbt said, a useful recommended way to obtain SC2K, SC3K and SC4 nowadays is from the GOG digital retailer. They sell the games DRM free, so it has an advantage of functioning without needing a client application installed (like Steam). Just make sure to choose the standalone installer (as this post explains). Then one can play while not depending on a "helper" program. GOG does have fairly frequent sales also which are worth keeping an eye on, with often 75% off the standard retail price.

Once you've got any of the games, feel free to post in new and/or existing topics if you'd like any assistance in resuming your mayoral duties. We'll help get you up and running, so rest assured said boredom and disappointingness will only be short term.

Hi and thanks everyone!

I got lucky with the cheap!! Grabbed SC4 Deluxe for $4.99 from Steam this weekend (Oct 16-17, 2021)! It might not be as modifiable. Guess I'll be looking into that. I was able to mod Skyrim even with my Steam download (can't remember for sure), so hoping it's possible.

For now, a new SC4 to explore! Thanks for all the pointers!
