Hi,

Are there any mods that boost commercial high-rise growth? When I run out of space and the residential high-rises start popping up, I find it a shame the commercial high-rise are so hard to get, it makes the downtown look unbalanced.

This is a longshot, but I didn't know where else to go to ask:

does anyone have access to dhamp's "No Maxis Buildings Mod v2"? I don't need just a generic blanket wealth category Maxis blocker, I need one that can block specific stages of the wealth category, and people have said that does it. The old links are completely fried.

I was wondering if someone has made a tool that can go into the Plugins and help identify files......

In other words, something that can look at the signature of the file and tell me who the creator was or what type of BAT/MOD/building/prop/etc., so that I can properly categorize my folders. I'm prepared for the bad news if there isn't, and I know my Plugins is too far gone into madness to do anything but start from scratch.

The most time consuming aspect is coming across files that give no indication of what they are, with no way to research them, so I don't know if I need them.

You can explore such things with XML positions inside the main files from C4.

20 or 60 % of the time you don't recognize the author ... In models simply write BOX-01 or similar ...

I have just rebuilt my plug in files and cannot locate the model files for the JENXAIRPORT Rental Car lots. I have the lots and cars but no buildings. Hope someone can help.

it's a screenshot of the folder. Maybe it can help. In the file "JENXAIRPORT_Rental_Car.dat" I think.

Anyone have ANY idea what these small shops are? At least one, so that I can have some sort of direction on finding the rest.

EDIT: NEVER MIND FOUND IT

If you're wondering what it is, it's on this site, as well as a plethora of other wonderful Japanese-style BATs: http://blog.livedoor.jp/moonlinght/archives/cat_59226.html

Hello everybody, first time I post so be indulgent please !

I download the latest NAM version a few months ago and appeared those little squares right on my railways... I looked at all the RRW content to find a way to fix it but it wasn't a success, someone knows if there is a dependency I missed or something like that ?

Thank you,

Best

The RRW package in the NAM does not feature any T21s, except for some Buffers at the end of lines and the RR Crossings. T21 mods attach props to networks based on specific patterns. The missing objects are consistent with Catenary props, which must be from a third party mod.

Did you install Rivit's RUM for RRW addon?, if so the Catenaries used require the following dependency:

Installing that should fix things up.

You'd need to cancel the T21s that add them there, which will come from either the NAM or Base Game. Creating the files is simple enough, it's finding them all that's a PITA.

Bear in mind also, such a mod would be an all or nothing thing. Either you remove every instance or none at all. In fact, since it gets seriously time-consuming to do much more than find all the diagonal road T21s and blanket cancel them. If you don't want all the diagonal roads to be bare of props, including lights and trees, it would be a lot of work to achieve. If cancelling them all doesn't bother you, I may be able to put something together for you.

Probably a few. See here for some level-headed information and links:

But bear in mind, if you build sufficient connected cities to create enough growth, the game will allow you to have what you want. I'm not against demand mods because they are cheats, but because most are very basic and alter how the game works by editing a few properties. But, the game is multi-faceted and complex, changing just one small obvious setting doesn't necessarily come without drawbacks. If you alter how the game works, you also need to alter how you play it.

A great tutorial to help with better understanding the mechanics of region building is here.

Your only real options are the BSC Mod and this one:

Since the specific one you mention doesn't appear to have been hosted outside of a site which has not been online for years.

All you'd need do is separate the specific growth stages from the DATs in either mod, into new files. A bit time consuming and requiring a little knowledge of Reader, but certainly doable. If you feel like taking that on, someone would be happy to assist by talking you through how. Best to start a new thread for that in the SC4 Modding forum. :)

The most time consuming aspect is coming across files that give no indication of what they are, with no way to research them, so I don't know if I need them.

The thing is, to identify files, there must be some identifiable information. So if a creator hasn't named either the file or it's contents in such as way as to make it obvious, no tool can circumvent that.

As I think you are realising, the best solution is to do this as you install such files, so you know where they come from. I sympathise with your Plugins being too far gone, but when I reached that point, eventually I knew I had to start over or live with it. I did the former and have been slowly crafting a very organised suite of mods ever since.

As a general rule of thumb, you shouldn't remove anything installed in your Plugins, unless you can be sure you don't need it. Whilst some modders do leave behind duplicated or redundant files, it's not hugely common. So best guess you do need most of what you have.

Two tools that will help to see and understand your files better are iLives Reader and SC4 Data Node. But these are not for the feint of heart and require some understanding of the games file types to really be useful. Not to mention, neither will automate the task you want, simply help you to know where to look and look at them.

Head over to my Lot and Mod Shack to keep abreast of my latest developments.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).

p.s. - I'm MGB over on SC4D and a member of the NAM team.

Hmm.. Yeah that's definitely it. I now realize in the first picture that there's some sort of prop or pedestrian bridge or something overlapping this building.

The solution was making sure the model and lot files were in the plugins folder. (At the suggestion of another member.) They were not so I put them there and this solved the problem. Thanks!
