However,  one thing network skins will be used for in the future will be for third rail replacement with (drumroll)...caternaries!  This will accommodate the niche of LRT which AFAIK falls somewhere between metro and tram.

Should I be in charge of the creation of LRT, I would opt to introduce underground stops and additional tracks and features to the trams.

@wasmic: I'm from Boston so I am pretty familiar with what the Green Line is about.  Just don't really have the time to start a 'tram overhaul'. There are still more refinements that need to be done to MOM before I can switch onto another project.  Honestly, I wouldn't be opposed to a 'TOM' lol...it would only make sense and the refinements that we do to it could encompass light rail to the fullest.  Does that sound better?

@alkiskan: Forgive me for asking but would you be building these things? Or are you simply suggesting them?  As far as programming, texturing, and modeling, we could always use good talent but suggestions are plentiful.

@wasmic - Totally agreed - now that metro's been made a robust and complete system, trams really have to be next, and the Expo Line stuff is a great place to start from.

I was initially confused when you guys said that what makes a LRT a LRT is that vehicles shared road with the LRT at some section since over here, our LRTs are completed elevated and never touches the ground. Then I realized that the LRTs in my country are very different from the traditional sense of LRT since they are grade-separated and are more like people movers instead.

That got me thinking, how about people movers as a mod?

Hi would it maybe be possible to create three or four-way metro tracks so you could use a local/express service like in NYC? With Rush Hour and the newest update of Transport Lines Manager (set budget for individual lines by day time) that would make sense.

Just suggesting... although I have tried (and miserably failed).

If someone made a very small metro station, it wouldn't be too hard to make a people mover with MOM as it currently is. Especially when the single-track tracks are released.

I think that should be possible once the one-way single metro tracks get released, too. I have a set up in my city (ground level) with express and local trains. I can't make it underground since there's no underground one-way single track station track yet, but the concept is the same.

When do we get underground tram stations? CO pls.

@jan.gI would have loved to make this but currently I there are some limitations in the game that would make things a bit difficult, namely that you cannot select one lane of a 2 lane one way to junction with.  It will always junction with them both and it is not possible to specify the route a train would take except through a station so they will kinda do whatever they want. I haven't explored it fully yet so I might be missing something.

For the most flexibility, the tram system would have to be extended. And I know that I have said this before, but the ONLY things that are needed in order to have a fully capable LRT system that can be used to replicate EVERY LRT system, is underground tram station track, elevated tram station track... and perhaps some prettier tram tracks without pedestrian paths. Of these, only underground station track is strictly necessary, but the others would be very nice to have.

If you check the wikipedia page for light rail, you'll see that pretty much all the examples there contain at least some amount of street running, or at least running through intersections and otherwise running in the median.

Light Rail Rapid Transit or Light Metro is completely separate from light rail and only related by name. It's much closer to a metro than a light rail, the only difference being the length of the trains.

If you want to look at some archetypal light rail systems, take a look at things like the MBTA Green Line (street running, median running, underground running, elevated running and separated ground-level running) and the Karlsruhe Stadtbahn (runs on rail main lines in the suburbs/rural areas and in the streets in the city centre)

Light Rail term itself has so many definitions and Light Rail systems are so diverse...

As you've seen in G:Link Fly-through video, there is only one thing which isn't possible with MOM now (except station with island platform), it's the left turn across road intersection. With the help of Move It and  patience it is almost possible to do with tram tracks... Still it's not perfect...

One more thing: Light Rail Vehicles are bi-directional (well most of them), C:S trams are uni-directional...

Okay, completely irrelevant to your discussion - does the Extra Vehicle Effects mod support MOM trains? Just wondering, since it would be nice to see some tail lights on the Moscow/Kyiv metro.

    Just a PSA:

    Update 5:

-Underground station tracks can now be rotated! Thanks to scoobyduped (Steam) for the idea.
-All tracks use better models. Thanks to @Tim The Terrible for the rail models.
-Tracks no longer can join in ways that will make an invalid junction. Many were having issues.

@Igorp133: Yeah, it's a bit weird that LRT is such a broad term. There are many different systems where the only thing they have in common is a smaller passenger capacity than big metros, that are all called light rail. Light metros, tramways, Stadtbahn, pre-metro, all of these are sometimes grouped under LRT. It's really not that good of a term any more, since it has become too non-specific.

@andreharv: Woo, better track models! Awesome.

Now I wish I waited for this update before making my latest screenshots. Guess it's time to dump the screenshot folder again and abuse the F12 button with those new rails :)

I'm guilty of having an invalid junction just outside the train yard and was surprised I was able to do it. Glad for the fix, I been meaning to correct what I did anyway.

as it supports any vehicle in the game: yes.

Don't know if this has been mentioned, but the "replace last car with engine' button in IPT is now showing up for metros! Yay!

Is there a way to get back the default steel pillars on the elevated tracks after using Network Skins? I chose my NYC elevated pillars but decided to switch back to default but could not figure that out. The default elevated metro pillars do not show up in Network Skins.

by use elevate MMO track, save and load, some place always show blue holes, even the strange tall mountain you can see in the picture :~

use terrain tool to fix them, save and load, they will appear again.

I'm having a problem where I have a whole tile in my map that the terrain gets flattened in on load. If I do some terraforming, the terrain comes back to it's original height, but save and reload causes the same flattening again. Going back through my save games, I found one that loads without this occurring. I'm making an assumption here that it is related to something within the affected tile and not somewhere else on the map. There's not much in that tile other than a bridge, train tracks, and MOM tracks (ground, elevated, and underground). One major difference between the affected and unaffected save is the addition of European Main Station. This is an asset I have used before, and I know for sure that it was not causing this issue for some time after placing it here, so it seems like something that has happened in the past couple of days that is retroactive upon loading older saves. Maybe I'm grasping at straws, but I'm posting here based on the similarity of terrain problem that can be fixed, saved, and returns on re-load. Is there something about placing this asset with MOM that could be causing this?

I was wondering, any plans for an elevated metro depot for those who prefer their metro to be 100% elevated?

A friend has had the same issue with "Large Coal Power Plant" of Avanya : it's a problem due to transfer from Sub-Building Enabler to Sub-Building (vanilla). Only the creator can to resolve that.

Yup, my coal power plant caused this, but I managed to find and fix the issue. I'll message the creator and let him know what I found when fixing mine.

Yeah, turns out the game really can't deal with subbuildings which have no mesh, which also includes the integrated metro station. He's working on a fix. Looks like the subbuildings could have used being tested more before the release. :/

European Main Station is now fixed.

Only the reactivity responsiveness of Avanya had allowed me to give the cause of the problem...

Unsubscribe/Subscribe to MOM and then Network Skins as well. That helped me.
