I keep my domain on a 9-10 year cycle so I rarely have to deal with it. I remember the wild west days where a domain only had to be expired for one second before you could snap it up and the old owner was out of luck ie I suspect TMZ came of there domain that way..

It's just the domain that's expired, so you can still access the site if you know the IP.

If you add the following lines to your hosts file (On Windows - c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts) then restart your browser, the site will be accessible.

142.4.14.20    sc4devotion.com
142.4.14.20    www.sc4devotion.com

Remember to remove them once the domain is restored though.

WARNING - editing the hosts file can prevent you accessing the internet altogether. Be careful.

Launch Notepad as an administrator.

Open c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
(the file may be hidden)

Add these two lines to the end of the file:

142.4.14.20    sc4devotion.com
142.4.14.20    www.sc4devotion.com

Save the file and restart your browser.

I just added those lines to the hosts file and then browsed to www.sc4devotion.com as usual, everything worked for me. Thanks Vershner.

Head over to my Lot and Mod Shack to keep abreast of my latest developments.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).

p.s. - I'm MGB over on SC4D and a member of the NAM team.

Maybe you guys should just wait a bit before doing anything that could harm your computer. As we stated the site will come back, you just have to be patient.

I had to clear my DNS history to get it to work, but I've removed this fix, since I'd rather wait for a proper solution. :)

I can go there in Internet Explorer, not on google chrome. Strange :S

That'll be because Chrome had cached the DNS lookup, whereas with IE it was a fresh visit, so no caching.

Does copypasta'ing that IP address into my browser's url address bar work at all? Or will that accidently get me IP banned?

It won't work.

This isn't the first time we've had an issue like this with the registration.  7-8 years ago jeronij actually switched registrars because the previous one goofed up.  Based on the fact that there's two different expiration dates floating around on the WHOIS stuff, I suspect we might have had a similar sort of miscommunication happen here as well.  The WHOIS info I saw still showed the nameserver directing to our current registrar's "suspended" server, though it likely hasn't been updated if there's been any changes since the message went up.  I am currently unable to get onto the site, but I suspect things will be settled shortly.

For those not already aware, everything appears to be working normally again at SC4D as of a couple hours ago. Thanks for your patience and thanks to ST for hosting this discussion. If you did make the modifications vershner suggested (thanks, it worked great for me) you may want to undo them now before you forget. Happy playing!

I'm at work now and oh no I can't access SC4D  :(

Its a yearly registration so it actually expired on Oct 15 2015, I l know from my own  website that I start getting messages reminding me that my domain name is going to expire over a month before it due to happen so I can't understand if that's the case here why nobody knew it was going to happen I certainly get enough emails when its my site ... not that I plan on going anywhere I like running a website its fun  :)

Sorry, but I couldn't really say for sure--very possibly. If you're having troubles it could be that it takes time for the domain name registration changes to propagate, similarly to how some users were able to access the site when it went out for much longer than others. Hopefully it's able to work for you soon :)

I still noticed the "Domain suspended" page, then did a hard refresh (Ctrl+F5). All seems to be working fine now.

If anyone's having trouble, maybe this is worth a try. It should force a reload from the server, instead of reverting to your local cache.

Thanks guys for the quick response and the continual updates! :thumb:

Everything is working fine. As Cyclone said, I commend the SC4D administrators on continually updating the tread, and how quickly the issue was resolved.

We upgraded the site to a commercial hosting package which among other things moved us to faster server, automatic site backups and more security including a SSL certificate which means the site is now

https://community.simtropolis.com/clubs/26-city-builders-website/

note the https at the front of the address, you are not the only one who's had difficulties getting back on as a result, I would first try

and see if that fixes the problem is not then send me a PM and we will go from there.

The site is back up now (thanks to everyone for their patience and their support while we the site was down).  At present, SC4D is the only place to pick up the NAM 33 Pre-Release.  NAM 32 is still available here at ST and over at ModDB, though we've all but discontinued support for that release.  The official release for NAM 33 is still in the works.
