Bostons' Prudential building is in my opinion a very bad building, but nothing, and I mean nothing compares to the Chase builind in Lower Manhattan, not only did it destroy the flow of the classic New York skyline, but ti completly obscures 40 Wall Street from the north.

I nominate the Monument to Vittorio Emanuele II, king unified Italy. Built at the beginning of the 20th century, this beast can be seen from all over Rome. It's pompous, ugly,  replaced an entire medieval neighbourhood and throws a shadow on the Forum Romanum.

The wedding cake in all its ridiculous marble glory.

Agreed.

Just look how grey and dull it is. It's also made up of boxes. And coloumns, lol, how unoriginal is that?

Such a lack of creativity. 21.gif

By design it's hideous, phoney and imposing. It does not look good. 3.gif I'll try to get a picture that shows its scale better though.

I guess it's just one of those places you get used to over the years

I'd also like to nominate the Police HQ in winnepeg, that brutalist monstrosity sould be imploded for something that dosen't look like it was taken form Communist Russia

I'm not sure if anyone has posted this building before, but I had the "pleasure" of viewing it on a recent trip to Macau.  If you think Chicago's dildo looks bad, think again... 35.gif

For the epitome of architectural exrement I think it impossible to go past Melbourne's Federation square.  All sharp angles and concrete, in a style I call Urban Camouflage, the entire precinct looks like a rejected set from Terminator 3.  It's the ugliest and unfriendliest place I've ever seen.

interesting point someone made about buildings being boxes

this is true but what people mean by boxes is they mean its bland or it looks blank

a lot of cuboids in New York don't look AS bad because they have something going on like framework and tonnes of windows (with spaces in between them) but modern skyscrapers are more floor to ceiling windows and give this giant mirror effect which is quite risky

the building in philidelphia breaks the structural rule of buildings that is : the more they are shaped like mountains the stronger it is and there is not a mountain in the world that gets bigger at the top

also a point on box stores and housing in general rule known since the reniessance you should not have a building that exceeds a height to width ration of  1:4 so a building of 1:6 would violate that

the reason we like spires is because it looks more like a peak tand not like a plateau its the sauce on your steak the cherry on your cake. it looks more like a mountain peak

having no blank walls has been known since the reniessance and when blank walls were put in place they made frilly things, empty flus(chimneys) and falsly bricked up windows etc. to keep the wall "painted" per se

don't tell me i know nothing about architecture now

Wow, God bless whoever built that!

There are a bunch of apartments going up near me in NY that are nothing more than a big, plain red brick rectangle with no windows. They suck.

OH MY GOSH that is the ugliest building ever built in the history of history. I have to see it all the time and my eyes melt all the time. There are like 10 of them too. You Canadians, be glad you're in Canada. This thing emits radiation by night, no joke. I swear it turns green.

I could write a whole novel about bad architecture...here's one example, the BRD Bank building in Cluj Napoca, Romania

From a couple of angles it doesn't look bad.  And some rooms are beautifully appointed.  But judging from its Wikipedia article, it's a monstrosity of grandiose Stalinist architecture.  Large portions of it are a vacant shell.

Hmm... not the best peice of Stalinist architecture but certianly not the worst building in the world. My only beef is that it doesn't have more to it... I mean, it looks like somebody just lobbed the top and all the interesting stuff off the Hotel Ukraina.

These days houses the Parliament of Romania. It's a monumental comunist kitch, which pretends to be a landmark of BUcharest. There is a word that the Peoples Palace in Bucharest is the 2nd biggest building in the world after the Pentagon.

What? How in the world can you hate the Bilbao's Guggenheim Museum? You have to go there yourself to see how impressive it is.

EDIT: Never mind, it's the Disney Hall in L.A, always get them confused. 46.gif Still, I think it's a cool building.

You think this is bad? Has you seen some of the other stuff Gehry has made? This is IMO one of his better buildings.
