That looks really good! Love the eclectic mix you created: a US-style city with a dash Europe (some Frankfurt towers, Dutch trains and pancake flat land, ...)
btw: those train tunnels are really intriguing. Do you use any underground stations? And where do they show up again?

What's the light brownish red brick mid-rise building in the foreground, beside the highway, between the radio station and concrete lot with shipping container and excavator?

It's one of Prosper's buildings.

Restart of my city with better terraining. For some reason the game is missing Parts 3, 5 and 11 of the WTC complex despite having subscribed. CBD at the moment. Will have to get some other skyscrapers to transition the heights to the smaller buildings better. Using Ploppable RICO, Realistic Population and Consumption mod and Rush Hour.

(for some reason this post is duplicating the image no matter how many times I delete it). The lighting on the building to the left looks a bit skewed for some reason. I've not used the LOD toggle for that screenshot, could be why?

Looks great! You could also download the World Trade Center in one piece. The author uploaded a version which needs the sub-buildings enabler. Maybe that helps? You can find it here.

This might get the vote for the most awful downtown. Has a Hong Kong feel to it. 187k citizens call the downtown area (both sides of the river) home and it has 155k jobs. The bound for the district is the highway which might be hard to spot in the back.

Hope you don't feel claustrophobic afterwards. :)

Except that I don't think the area has out done the world's densest suburb, Mong Kok. I'll quote this from Wikipedia.

Quote

With its extremely high population density of 130,000/km2 or 340,000 per square mile, Mong Kok was described as the busiest district in the world by the Guinness World Records.[2

It definitely has that Asian metropolis vibe (well, maybe except the separated One WTC twins ;) ), really good stuff!

Finally got around to adding the streetcar system, in my city it was never truly removed in the 1920s because along with the heavy rail the car couldn't compete with public transport.

Where did that two-lane street with yellow centerline come from?

If I'm not mistaken, that's the Roads United: American Roads mod.

Thanks. I just looked at it on the workshop and that is a huge mod. Almost 300 megs just for that. It looks nice, but I don't know if my computer can handle it with everything else I have.

I was wondering, how do you get the barriers from elevated highways on the ground? I don't like the tall sound barrier version of the highway, but I like the 'jersey barrier' version on the elevated highways and wish there was a way to get that on non-elevated highways.

How did you get it to do that?

You just use something like Fine Road Heights and force 'elevated' with either 0m or 1m elevation.  At least that's how I do it.

Same here. I always use elevated mode for highways in urban settings and at interchanges, whereas highways in rural settings get the default look.

Impossible without a mod, that's for sure.  Not sure if there's something solely for force changing roads though on the Workshop.

Good to know. Fine Road Heights is one I've avoided, along with No Pillars. As I understand, they're pretty notorious game-breakers.

On a somewhat related note, is there any way to remove pedestrian crossings?

Both of those mods use to be pretty bad.  The Fine Road Tool by SamsamTS was a complete rework of FRH using no detours or tool replacement, making it quite stable into the future.  BloodyPenguin also redid NoPillars after the original was abandoned, so it's been in good hands for sometime now.

If you're talking about removing pedestrian crossings at intersections... I wish to know where one was too.

I didn't know they had been passed to new modders. Bloody Penguin certainly has a sterling reputation. Knowing that, I might check it out after all.

For my own road efforts, both mods are very much mandatory...

I second that. And not just for being able to use any road type at will, but also to get proper straight bridges, slopes, ramps and all - in vanilla state the game tends to make a hash of it sometimes....

I've been working on my Downtown area for quite some time. There is still a lot to be done (I'm going to place buildings on the left side of the flatiron building and I want to place at least the Empire State Building and the Chrysler building on the right side of this picture, that will get a sort of Midtown Manhattan vibe). However, I wanted to share my progress this far already.
