Cities: Skylines - Community Modding Requests

Welcome!

Seeing as we now have a brand new Cities: Skylines section on the STEX, it's time to get the ball rolling.

Whether you'd like to see a specific building or change in the game, here is the official place to request anything custom content related! :thumb:

Thread Guidelines

  • When making a request, it helps to be as specific and descriptive as possible (e.g. what you'd like to see & why you think it'd be useful in the game).
  • Pictures & links to resources are welcome, as long as they're directly relevant to the request (e.g. about a building / structure).
  • Please don't request items from another exchange to be uploaded here (e.g. from Steam Workshop).

As described in the STEX Code of Conduct, this requires permission from the original author. Such posts may be removed without notice.

  • This thread is intended to be an ideas base for prospective creators. Please remember, this isn't a place to demand content to be made! ;)

Great, now my thread can be closed. (link to thread here: )

Request: Terrain Editor a la SC4's God Mode.

The way it is now feels very unintuitive. The hills are mesas until you use the soften tool that despite that you can adjust the brush size and strength I usually find myself to erase parts of the terrain that are great until I try to spiff up a specific area. A problem I did not really remember to have in SC4.

So therefor I'd like to request a mod that makes the editor more like SC4's God Mode.

I'm not overly familiar with the modding tools yet, but is it possible to mod automata models/textures yet? I'd love to see more variation and less brightly colored cars. Some of those vans are practically assaulting my eyes!

I guess my reasons are just that variation is fun and makes for better screenshots.

I second MushyMushy's request for more subdued colours on the cars.

I would also like a mod that removes the donuts/bugspray cans/other props from the roof of the vans.

No idea how any of the modding stuff works, but I would like to second Empowered One's request, I really not sure why this didn't include this already; It was such a great feature to have in SC4. Also I third MushyMushy's request ^_^ I do find them quite colourful compared to real life cars.

I only played... uh what was that game name again... (damn short term memory lost...). Wutever, Kkk, rememberred it now - Cities XXL. I only played it for a couple minutes but I noticed that one have a very damn neat function to fill empty areas between building with parks.

I wonder will it be possible at all to mod that function into C:S. I'm not really fancy the current park system to be honest - and I loves curvy curvy stuff... so a lot of empty spaces available around...

My requests:

  1. New York City subway trains.
  2. Modern buses.
  3. Churches.
  4. Different types of educational facilities (libraries, high schools, colleges, a major, juggernaut research university).
  5. Huge transit centers (for the connection of multiple bus and rail line connections).
  6. Huge malls.
  7. Larger airports.

Thanks so much.

Ability to make tunnels.

Different building types for schools, police stations, train stations, etc....to allow for multiple different types of the aforementioned in one city

Not sure if it's exactly what you're describing, but the "Decoration Tool" allows you to place props (e.g. trees) in unoccupied spaces.

Hopefully more items can be added to the default selection (I'm sure it's possible).

According to the Release FAQ, tunnels are on the to-do list. ;)

Only thing I can think of right now that I miss badly enough to ask for and not just wait and see is a random tree brush. Man I've spent ages already plopping trees one by one :(

Tree brush, that's the suggestion I was missing! Couldn't for the life of me remember, but I knew something was missing. Added to the list going over to CO!

Thanks Azurespecter :) my mouse will be very pleased.

Just thought of another, while taking shots of my city center; compact highways!

It'll make more sense in the dense areas of the cities than 2 separate roads for each direction.

I haven't seen much of the game thusfar and only scrolled a little bit through the asset editor. Here's what I'd add:

    Gritty older looking power plants.

Non-cutesy parks. Like different sports fields/minor league stadiums with bleachers. A public pool. A "sunken" plaza?

Interchanges/junctions need onramps/slip-roads that don't connect to each other at right angles. It looks unrealistic and it's inefficient as hell since the cars slowing down to turn onto the ramp would cause traffic behind to slow too, which causes or exacerbates congestion.

Well Iam not sure if it´s a MOD but.. What about night-time? How hard is to get it working? Also, all of the items that BlitzPackage said I  would like to have too. Huge malls would be lovely!

(sorry by my english as it´s not my native language)

I would love to see parking lot streets. They could be 3 tiles wide with diagonal or perpendicular parking spaces and 1 lane each direction of slow traffic. They could be 4 tiles wide if they get medians/parks at the edge of the roads (for fancy parking lots with trees and walkways between parking spaces). This would make shopping areas of various styles more realistic. This would increase parking spaces if the main road has no parking (like a grass or tree lined road) but still have low noise pollution.

Date based tilesets.  Let us start in 1800s (or hell.. even earlier...)  and have tilesets for every 50 years or so that allow us to have older parts of the cities and older buildings.

I'd like a version of NAM for Cities Skylines. Now, I know that the existing road options are A LOT more flexible than those in SC4, but there are some things which bother me (like they bothered me in Cities in Motion 2 - I'm guessing they ported much of their road network code from CiM2).

For example, when switching from a road type to another (say, highway to 2-lane one way road), the road markings are not continuous (like all those nice NAM transitions) and the game adds pedestrian crossings.

Also, you can't connect a road to just one side of an avenue. And there are no acceleration/deceleration lanes on highways, plus the ramps can be joined at what in real life would be a dangerous angle. This as well as turning lanes are a must for both function and realism!

Commercial Zoning: Car dealerships of various European (Audi, SEAT, VW, etc) and American (Ford, Chrysler etc) brands (Not highend, too unrealistic)

Ploppable: Highend car dealerships like Ferrari, Lamborghini and so on.

A greater variety of railway stations besides the one currently available. More compact ground-level and elevated platforms for downtown areas, as well as larger terminus and central stations that integrate metro and bus service. These would go a long way to creating a more realistic commuter rail system.

One thing I actually enjoyed that SC13 has and Skylines was streetcars/trams. That would be a far more involving project to add in than mere train stations, but I thought I'd also put that out there.

I'd like to request a mod that gives you the ability to BUY all spaces without having to reach milestones while also still be able to get achievements. That would be more in the SC4 spirit imo.

    Also, U-Drive-It would be sweet.

Malls,Shopping Centers that are empty that need to get filled? In the Newspaper or News it would say like Subway has taken up 45,000 Square feet in Toms Riverplace or Deans Shoes opening in Dillards wing of Seminole Town Center.

Grocery Stores,Gas Stations,Fast Food Chains,Durg Stores and so on that are Popables as Custom Buildings so we can place then right off the Highway?
