Let's hope that SC4 CJ quality rubs off in these CJs. Looking good so far.

Dear sir/madam/whoever will read this!

This profile is now defunct.

Computer problems and issues with accessing my Imageshack account meant My SC4 CJ Scrapbook was lost and utterly irretrievable. This setback put me off SC4 for many months.

Apologies for the inconvenience and for the lost pictures.

But that SC4 itch did not go away and it had to be scratched! I have started afresh with a new account here- The British Sausage

The URS is a spiritual successor to the SC4 CJ Scrapbook.

With this update this will be the last time I visit my original Simtropolis account- admin/mods feel free to remove it or do whatever you need to do. I have no further use for the Ln X (BLANKBLANK) account.

With regards, Miles Saunders-Priem aka. Ln X aka. The British Sausage

Awesome! Just curious, what size zones are you using for the light residential?

Awesome! It really looks like this is the worthy successor to SC4, it "feels" right. I started out on SimCity 2000 and SimCity for the SNES. Always wondered what the future would hold, this is what I had in mind.

I know that is funny to say because all you have so far is a road and cute water tower, lol.

It looks cool and stuff, but the size of the cities still bother me, a lot.

And a few city tiles?

I also saw that you can't connect subway lines to other city tiles...

I think I'll play SC4 forever.

There is a mod allowing you to connect up to 25 tiles. Even with the 9 default tiles it seems huge after watching the live streams.

Not sure what you mean about the subway. Pretty sure that is not the case.

A journal already?!  The hype is real!  Lovely start :)  I love starting with a small town and building it out.  It creates a sense of history that's fun to look back on as the city evolves.  I'm looking forward to downloading new rural/suburban homes, I find them lacking a bit.  I wonder if anyone has interest in bringing SimCity buildings over to Skylines?  They have some great US style rural/middle class homes.

I don't think you have much to worry about,

You can build a pretty big city in 9 tiles.  There will also be the inevitable mod that unlocks all 25 tiles for those who are daring enough and have the computer specs to handle it.

I never played anything but Sim City 4, which is a bit different (interface and mayor mode) when building the city. I hope I will be able to get use to this setting, which seems to mirror the previous Sim Cities...Watching the various videos did give me a idea of what to expect.

So far, it does look very promising and this is a very nice entry! What really interest me in this game is the ability to curve my roads!!! And the overall scenery does look pretty...

Looking forward to more entry so I can make up my mind! :)

Thanks for creating this journal TekindusT!

    Wow, I see this is going fast! The city is also growing fast, this is why I have to post a second chapter... But first, the comment replies!

    Comment Replies
    @Yayie: I'm more a big city kind of guy, but sometimes it's better to play small for a change. Thanks for the comment!
    @iviaarten: Thank you! I haven't watch much "let's plays", the thing is I have never seen the fun of seeing other people playing for you... CJing is just different.
    @Cyclone Boom: Thanks, mate! Here's what the two next years of growth brought in!
    @SimCoug: And don't forget the almost-artificial all-green grass! ;) Thank you for commenting!
    @Ln X: Thank you! Hope to keep this level up!
    @Snugies: And here they go!
    @simsantos: Thank you for your comment!
    @89James89: Yeah, I actually liked the settlement next to the river, didn't think much about the highway exit. Have in mind, though, that once your population grows, you are entitled to work in larger tiles.
    @Azurespecter: Right now, I'm using the automatic zoning that appears next to the roads; and this kind of automatic zoning. You click, and a zone is made automatically. Can't recall the name, it is the first option on the zoning menu. I have to say I'm very satisfied with it, it avoids zoning in a grid when using curved roads; in which I tend to fall in by pure laziness.
    @Terring: Here's more!
    @copper121212: Thanks! Well, I have played ahead of what I'm showing, I got more "urbanisation". From afar, the town looks quite lively and attractive once you are above the 1,000 residents.
    @MINIggy03: Well, we are doing this kind of CJ concept, "from a village to a metropolis" because we really don't know what are we going to find out when growing the city, and we want to share this same experience with you guys. I'm glad you liked the concept.
    @mymyjp: Thank you! About the interface, it is obviously different, but at the same time, all categories are the same as in the SC series. Power, water management, garbage, education, beautification, health, police... Furthermore, a new city starts with most of the options disabled, so the learning curve is quite smooth I would say. If you played SC4, shouldn't even be a challenge.
    @mrsmartsman: Proud to run it!
    @gviper: Yeah, I thought on that too. However, the river has a flowing direction! I placed the sewage on that specific point, "down the river" with respect to the city, and this way, the sewage does not pass in front of the city. It was quite a surprise to find out the flow direction; until now we were used to see the rivers as static entities.

    @47ply: You've seen nothing yet!

    @Paulobergonci: Same as to 47ply, there is still plenty of stuff to see!

    @JPSchriefer: Indeed, as far as I have seen, the game is actually "waiting" for mods, there is some interface dedicated only to them. So sure, it looks like it's highly moddable, the thing is I haven't ventured yet.

    @shoko: This early acces we had was a courtesy from Paradox with Simtropolis, and it is very limited. Be patient, it will be a few days more!

    ------------------------------------------------------

    We were leaving yesterday a small village in the middle of nowhere, but you know what they say "establishing is easy, keeping there is difficult".

    961f0506c4379ea90cdb6e32107dff5e.png

    With around 200 inhabitants, our village is steadily growing, and lots of changes will happen day after day. First of all, we welcome new, and not so nice neighbours...

    43030ba2b63a912906fc78eb032bcc5a.png

    The landing of a factory of Admiral, Inc divided the town in two sides. On one side, the ones who saw it as a chance to get a better jobs, that will bring prosperity to the city. Furthermore, the factory is very close to the resdiential area, so they can go by walk to work. On the other side, the residents who dislike the obvious air and noise pollution this factory will bring. Only time will tell if the establishment of this factory is going to be positive for Springsteen.

    As said, the population is growing, so we were "forced" to inaugurate our third street! A nice celebration was held at night with the fellow neighbors bringing cakes and firing some fireworks.

    c69acb907f025d437df322f0d44a2846.png

    Inmediately, the city hall (my garage) received a ton of applications of constructors and future residents to come to Springsteen. The word was spreding fast, and those who were willing to escape the big city saw Springsteen as one of the first options.

    081ae2cc089184c05cd09e42bda8bfb1.png

    These new lots were rapidly occupied; we welcomed new neighbours that gave some more variety to our small community. For the first time, we have somewhere that can be called "a downtown", somewhere to go out and meet somebody and have a chat.

    ddf575abd8af0193d3fd6bb8cc8bfbfc.png

    New residents, however, didn't bring more happiness. The happiness among the citizenship isn't skyrocketing, precisely. I know it is quite usual in new settlements, hope this will improve in the future. On the other side, seems that the industrial sector has no complaints on our work. We achieved a balanced budget and have a growing population. We even had to open a fourth street! Springsteen isn't paradise, but it is our very own town, and we love it anyways.

    The last step in this sequence, is the opening of our first bridge by pure necessity.

    55ad928799bb73c9e3ab655f2715fb6a.png

    What was this necessity? I'll show you in the next chapter!

    Those trees look fabulous. It looks like Simcity 2013 but with darker and dirtier textures, colours and hues plus with vastly more space to.

    It actually looks like a decent city-builder! I hope Cities Skylines will be the defacto city building game for the next few years.

    Very nice CJ, I'll be sure to look at it from time to time  :thumb:

    ^ Cities: Skylines is highly market-oriented. Hence, it receives mostly positive reception in the citybuilder community.
