  1. City of Amherst

Haven't played this game in awhile but here are some screenshots of that last city I was working on. Amherst!
  2. Looks like the Crown has been passed....

I think you misunderstood. I'm not talking from a simulation standpoint: in that particular aspect this game is waay better than SC4, no question about that. I'm talking about visuals. If you take a look at some of the SC4 CJs here on Simtropolis, you feel you're looking at paintings or even photos, in some cases, while here you can't shed that cartoonish look, at least in the close-ups. Sure, you have great area views, but when you get down to earth, you will see cartoon people, cartoon-pink hotdog vans (a lot of them) and washed-out textures on buildings. And over all too much saturation! And don't get me wrong: I'm loving the game and I'm logging way too many hours on it and enjoying every single minute of it! I don't understand this comment. Seems silly to knock CSL for looking cartoonish closeup when SC4 doesn't even give the option to do that. On the closest zoom of SC4 you get fuzz and fake animations, imagine what it would look like if you had the ability to zoom in like CSL. CSL gives you legitimate moments of hesitation where you think you're looking at an actual real life city. SC4 at it's best has a model train vibe. (not my city) Zoomed pics didn't work on this site It all comes down to what fiter you use. Obviously if you are directly at street level there isn't much that can be done but that is asking an awful lot.
  3. Skylines. SC4 is a good game but graphically it is over a decade old and it shows. SC4 is more evolved as far as mods go but they are a pain in the ass to wrap your head around (especially if you are starting out fresh) and many of them are tedious to work with (NAM). The mods in CSL are a breeze, one click, done! The game itself is reminiscent of the old Maxis games so I wouldn't worry about that. SC2013 isn't deserving of this discussion.
  4. City of Smithson

I'm not great with doing journals so I'll just post some pics. Overview from the 'burbs. And again Downtown overview A little closer. City Hall. Theatre district That's all for now!
  5. ^ That is usually what happens if people go for a swim and come back to their spot. Anyways do the Cims actually use the beach or it is purely cosmetic?
  6. Questions about Steam

I've enjoyed Steam so far. Mods are 1000 times better than trying to do SC4 ones. I love that I can check out the workshop on my phone or tablet, subscribe to a mod, and it's in game next time I play. How freakin easy and awesome is that? I also had a harddrive crash but, because I saved my city to the Steam cloud, my city wasn't lost.
  7. Show us your Downtown/CBD

Working on a layout. My rail is pretty sad looking in particular, lol.
  8. Building A Skyline From Scratch

As someone who loves highways of course he is going to want to create the grand daddy of them all!
  9. The "roots" of any city...

If you really wanted to you could build a big long rural road off of the highway and start your city there.
  10. Freaking awesome! Sorry if you already posted this but do you use a colour filter? Your city looks really vivid.
  11. Game is awesome! It is a true city builder. Brings back the same feelings I had when I started out with SC2000 and on. Didn't know if I would ever see the day where that happened again. I love the planning aspect in particular . If you mess up your infrastructure the game will make you pay for it!
  12. Definitely need to check this out. Wonder why they didn't include it in the game?
  13. Its only the growables that have to stick to 4 x 4 in size, plopables can be a lot bigger, from the competition page at Paradox which is why someone has done a cathedral ... it looks great (see page 2) http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?840333-Custom-Building-Competition Awesome! I think things like grocery stores, malls, etc that would go above the 4x4 are usually better when plopped anyways because it's something you want more control over then say a generic office.
  14. I wonder if the lot size has to do with the curved roads? It would be hard to place/zone a large lot around a curved road because the lot would need to curve also.
