Well, I won't make any promises, but Murphy-Telegraph is definitely within the geographic boundaries Jason and I are generally working on. We've discussed modeling it in the past, so it's a distinct possibility! Jason is working on 220 W Congress, which is right across the street, and we've both BATed things in the near vicinity -- Ford Building, Penobscot, etc.

 

UPDATE: the Lane Bryant Building is now available on the STEX!

Yeah even I was surprised at how small this has turned out. Because of its size, and how detailed I ended up making it, this would indeed be pretty good for HD. idk 100% yet but I'd like to offer both SD and HD versions of this one.

So here's the other lighthouse I did. Zoom 5's LOD is actually fitted to the ridges of the seawall, so the water edge (and also the terrain by the shore) follows the countours. that would be too high poly for zoom 4 imo, but from that distance luckily you wouldn't be able to see the difference anyway.

 

Both of the lighthouses will be released when I get around to making the queries and making some other things that will go into the next mipro essentials update.

That will be a really unique BAT!  Would you consider rendering the two individual lighthouses on the seawall as separate props too?  I think they would be quite versatile.

SimCoug: I think at least I could export them and just e-mail them to whoever wants them. If they were to go on the STEX, would they just be tagged onto the lighthouse upload, or would they get put into mipro essentials so that people could link to it as a dependency? But that means everyone else is downloading lighthouses props which will probably never be used as a dependency, and if so, wouldn't be for a commonly used upload. I'm not even expecting the lghthouses themselves to get a ton of downloads, as they'll only appeal to an appreciative but small number of people.

Uhmmmm i guess not,but i can imagine it.I guess using standardized roofjunk 3d files from the stex (at least i think i saw something like that here on STEX or LEX....) isn`t your thing,right?

However,the hard tedious work pays of.The building looks great (from time to time we all need a modern building,right?)

I hear you!  This little Book Building (no, not Detroit's, hehe) should have already been done a year ago, but I admit to avoiding it for untold months because I am sick of tweaking at HVAC units--and it's not like there were that many, either!  There is still another large unit I have to put atop the attached annex, but all my reference photos have so many trees or other structures blocking the view that I can only make out vague, amorphous machinery shapes...ugh!  It's bad enough not knowing what I am doing without having to also make something up convincingly while still not what I'm doing.

 

Still, your 220 West Congress is looking very handsome, and the HD lighthouse is drool worthy.

Gaaah! Did you have to show that image? Slap a texture on those blinds, and I'd take the building as is! It's so sad how stuff that is "only" 99.9997% awesome ends up unreleased and blocking other progress because the creator suffers from the RES (Ridiculously Excessive Standards) disease.  You are making me cry, mister. Some peanut butter M&Ms helped get me through the rest of the roof junk. I don't know what I would have done without them.

 

There's just a little more roof junk modeling to do, then there's texturing for the roof, the back walls, and then the day version will be complete.

 

 

Hotwheeler: One of the great things about doing fictional buildings is that you get to decide what the roof junk will be yourself. And I usually have minimal roof junk and what I do have I often times reuse from other buildings. For recreations though, the roof junk has to be modeled to look like the real roofjunk.

Odainsaker: Well you can take pride that the roof junk that you've done so far has been excellently made. I agree though, the real unpleasant thing about roof junk isn't so much modeling it, as it tends to just be a bunch of boxes and tubes, it's getting good reference images. For this I only have google and bing, and from only two directions as it's surrounded by taller buildings.

 

OmniBLACK: Those lighthouses are from western michigan. But as far as buildings in downtowns, it's not super likely. There's a few that both of us have wanted to do from the very beginning but the buildings tend not to fit evenly on SC4 lots, so it's not really possible. 77 Monroe in Grand Rapids for example is 26 m wide and deep. To fit on a 32x32 m (2x2) lot, it would need to be scaled up 116% which would make the building noticeably distorted. A bunch of other buildings in Grand Rapids are diagonal. The lovely art deco tower in Kalamazoo is 23 m wide which is even worse. I'm sure there are other buildings that are possibilities but all of the landmark downtown buildings we've looked at don't fit. Eventually some stuff from western michigan will get made though. Someday!
