Not sure how did I get onto this building anyway.... so many unfinished projects already... :kitty:

The nice thing about lots of unfinished projects is that it just means there will be a week in the future where we are literally inundated with all the simultaneous Melbourne releases we could ever want.  Keep them up!

I disagree and the 'Never made it to the STEX' thread backs this up.

Great release Red! I can't wait to see the release of both your train station and the "ugly" building you created. :D

Hi, thanks for nice comments everyone.

Gutterclub, I could raise an indignant 'I'll never be on that BAT thread' ..but I suppose no one ever intends to be. There's no guarantees of course, but all things being equal... I'll never be on that BAT thread!! :hmph::P

On that note, next cab off the rank is Flinders Street Station, the only thing holding it up is the height of the platforms. For some reason I can't make trains appear in my test city anymore. They appeared once  but I wasn't quick enough with the pause button, and they never appeared again. I'll have another go but anyone reading this who knows the right height for the platforms could you let me know please? :)

Oh, and the issue several people have raised about the convoluted downloads, given I'm offering Maxis night, Darknite, Diagonal, Orthagonal, Ploppable and Growable versions of my BATs I thought this was the simplest I could make it.. but if there are other suggestions for how I could do this more simply without duplicating uploads please let me know? Thanks!

If I could make a request with regards to the packaging of the BAT's I would much prefer to have everything in one zip file..or 2 options for darknite and maxisnite and the user can delete which version they do not want..rather than downloading them seperately..just makes it easier to organise for plugins IMO

Problem is, I really don't feel I should have to download an excessive amount of data to simply just delete 80% of the files. Bandwidth costs money, ye!

It's not an excesive amount, its the same amount as all other BATs. You can still offer the 2 download choices of Darknite and Maxinite..but downloading seperate lot files and seperate model files is just really messy!

In my opinion, you've already offered us enough freedom to download whatever file we like. I can't think of any other good options. Diagonal models, which I have to say, are the biggest surprise everytime when a new BAT is presented in front of us. :thumb:

Ok.. some good news and not so good news... I've got the trains running, and after resizing my platforms I went too far and now they're way too short lol but thats easy, albeit tedious, to fix.

The bigger problem is the trains don't like driving past the platforms... (oh, I've got all but the middle track running now.. more good news!)... but the trains only want to touch the end of the platforms then they turn around or fade away. I think I'm going to need to make the centre platform and administration building into non-functional landmarks and then make only the main entrance piece (with the giant cupola) a functional passenger station, then that should hopefully force the trains to run along the platforms until they hit the end piece before they disappear.

Anyway.. something to solve tomorrow now :)

Oh.. seems like there's mixed opinions on the 'convoluted' downloads... I haven't heard anything compelling that would make me change it yet ;)

I think you should give the .sc4descs their own zip files too.

Another wonderful release, just thought I'd drop my 2 cents on the "packaging issue"...

I agree that uploading the files separately is an excellent idea, and really, it makes a lot of sense. After all, you've got to know which files to install regardless of how they're presented.

In my opinion, having Maxis and DarkNite models together is actually more contained. On some previous occasions (other uploads), I've noticed confusion when these versions are uploaded separately. In theory, it should also save bandwidth as opposed to a single 20MB+ package that's downloaded thousands of times.

The only suggestion I can advise, is to write a small note in the description (in bold / red text). Nothing too strenuous, but basically just to inform newer members of which combinations can be used. Other than that, keep up the good incredible work! ;)

At last... a sensible suggestion! ;)

Thanks all... while I appreciate the feedback, I've decided to leave it as is... yes its convoluted... but is it that hard really? The instructions are there, if people can't work it out they can PM me and I'll help them solve it :)

On the flip side... making 6 versions of everything and organising uploads into some semblence of structure makes the export & upload process take 3 days instead of 3 hours... so if it takes an extra 5 minutes for someone download and organise their plug in folders I'm ok with that  hehe

Fantastic work here!! Your models, textures, and especially lights are excellent and perhaps the best thing of all is all these diagonal releases. I'm working on a section of diagonal grid right now and it's going to be pretty Melbourne-influenced ;)

    And that train station...just wow.

12 1/2 hours just for the Darknite export! If I start on the Maxis Night now should be able to finish up tomorrow and have on the Stex tomorrow :thumb:

    Ooh.. big file too.. 12Mb!

Thanks Noahclem btw.. its always nice to hear these BATs are being used... the diagonal ones take a lot of extra work. Thanks!

Very excited..  here's some night shots of the station in use. I didn't get the LODs perfect, there's still some clashing but I'm happy enough with it. I'm thinking of releasing some eye-candy tracks for anyone finding it especially bothersome...

Skyscraper, this should answer your question :)

    Libellibicus, thanks, I hope so!

Unfortunately I spent all day making a subway transition so haven't been able to upload onto the Stex today. It took a lot longer than I thought, and still needs a bit of work. I can't get the front edge to line up smoothly. Any helpful suggestions?

    Here's some images anyway..

The subway transition is too small. The slope is to step. Try making it 4-6 tiles long so that the trains can really take it.

Over nice job on the station! It's impressive.  Just one or two little LOD bug on the platform on the two latest night pictures you posted.

The station is looking great, I'm going to have to create a new city to use a station of such size.

Erm... you're probably going to hate me for being so picky, but I think the slope on these rail => underground rail transitions is somewhat steep... *takes cover*

The station itself is breathtaking, though! :golly:

Methinks we doth spied within an image some pages previous from hither thy most blessed cone of Melbourne Central, masterwork of sir...uh...sir Kurokawa Kishō of the distant shires of Giapan.

Looks like all my cities are going to look like Melbourne now, as they are always going to have plopped that amazing station and these wonderful towers.
