Ok, folks, time to update this thread with some news :)

Let's play 'guess the building' game:

    RGBmX80.png

Hahahaha, well ok, that might not be that helpful, let's try with this one:

    l8qawgX.png

Now this is much easier now. Who goes first?

I have to admit this building has secretly been on my radar.  But yours is looking lovely so far, and I have no doubts that when it's finished it will look as good as it would have if I had made it.  :)

Wow, I ignored the presence of this building in Midtown before. That is awsome Vlasky. I really like that "guess game". It is all the time a good surprise except the fact that most nybt members are way too fast to guess ahaha.

They know their subject : Good point :P :P :P

I when you said it was time to update this thread with some news was quite a hint. :P

I'm excited Vlasky! Looks promising. There's a Maxis building based on this one, but they made it much thicker than the real one. It'll be great to finally have the true recreation in game. :)

    Aaron: Thank you buddy

Jasoncw: Thank you. If I had known that, I probably wouldn't have started it :P

Parisian: Thank you and from now on, don't you dare miss it :P

Edwardjeria: Thank you and here's the progress :)

Sgt.Pepper: Thank you Brandon. Maxis did a horrible job (surprise surprise) but we're here to correct it. And btw, the 'news' hint, wasn't intentional :P lol, must have slipped somehow :P subconsciousness is a weird thing :P

Here's my progress on all the decorative stuff that won't be seen it the game lol, but I had to do it/ And the revolving door that are also poorly seen in game render:

edwardjeria, darknono35, libellibicus, Chris M and Aaron thank you guys

Now here's a bit of update on the Daily News building I forgot to post here. Mainly it's a bit of work done on the roof and side and back base windows.

    jMeGiIE.jpg

And something I've been working on with help of Bipin. I've worked on recreating NYC style seawalls. My reference is the type of seawalls mostly found on the Hudson river front, especially Battery City area. Take a look, but please do note that this model needs refinement and textures are just placeholders. Both Orthogonal, diagonal and fractional versions are in plans.

    Orthogonal:

    Fractional:

and a reference pic from Battery park city:

progress on the Daily News buildings looks fantastic!

And I'm intrigued about the seawalls... How do you plan to implement these in-game?  The current setup may be difficult to place next to water without some serious terraforming, but maybe I'm not seeing something.  Would it make more sense to push the wall to the end of the lot, which would allow it to sink directly into the water, and fill the remaining space with a nice walkway/park/etc?  (it would also save you from having to try and get a good sand/dirt texture that will mix easily with the various sand mods that are out there).

I just wanted to add my two cents - I am excited about the prospect of another seawall though!

Progress on the daily news bldg are awesome, look forward for this building, we need more art-deco in this game. The details are gorgeous too. Keep it up my friend ;)

The seawalls are amazing, and useful. I think, maybe you should create severals stuff with pillars like we can see along the docks and seawalls in New York ;)

    Good job ;)

    Hazani Pratama: Thank you

SimCoug: That was exactly how seawalls were supposed to work in game. I'll get back to them soon, finish the model, than I'll ask Bipin how to implement them in game, since the plan was for them to work much like his walls walls for highways. But everyone is welcome to suggest how this should be done.

Sgt Pepper: Hopefully you've installed it by now :)

Darknono: Thank you and yes we need more Art Deco in game. Good suggestion about pillars, I'll consider that.

    edwardjeria: Thank you

    AlexandorsB13: Thank you

Now quick update about previous projects: I had to make a break due to RL in May, than as you might have seen in my non NYBT thread, I started a little project just to get back into the game so I can finish previous stuff. Than, you guessed it, RL came crushing down on me again, and now after all that time I have tens of BATs to finish.

I promise I'll try to finish everything by the end of the year, or at least most of it.

I have started a new BAT in order to practice a bit and get back into it all. But mostly so that NYBT gets some back-up from me as well. Darknono and Aaron seemed a bit lonely here :)

So without further ado, I present to you Maritime Exchange building also known as 80 Broad street (which is its address, DUH!)

    wofKDyk.pnghsD7tqw.png

I expect to be done with modelling ASAP and texture and export it very very soon :) I still need to add some details, back side and fix a few things, but I hope you like it so far. Funny thing, this 117 meters tall building is virtually unnoticeable in the pictures of Lower Manhattan. :) Gotta love New York!

Wohoooo, good to see you back!

And what an interesting building you brought with you! That stepped front is really fascinating. Looks like this one will be a good bridge between Aaron's host of residential mid-rises and Darknono's towering skyscrapers, too.

The completely vertical at the waterline seawalls are something that is seriously lacking IMHO from SC4

I am absolutely loving the resurgence of all these 1920s/1930s Art Deco buildings that everybody is BATing!  Excited to see the Maritime Exchange Building, as it is sorely needed...we tend to have lots of smaller historic buildings, and then the tallest historic skyscrapers, but relatively few options in between.  And please, please, please don't forget about the Daily News Building!

Huston: Thank you! Sea walls should be the next thing I plan working on as soon as I finish this one.

T Wrecks: Hehe, thank you T. That stepped front and receded middle is what simply got me at first glance. I always though that low rises are the ones that lack the most, and while this is true, mid-rises are needed as well.

Darknono35: Nono, I promise I will finish all that is on my plate. Art Deco is my favorite architectural style, so I never really planned to do anything except it. It's just that I got little bolder to try bigger ones now :)

jaredh: my thoughts exactly ;) tho these were supposed to be special by being fractional.

jwsteele: Except for Nono, I'm not sure I've seen others working on 20s-30s stuff. Did I miss something? BSP and NYBT are the ones who predominantly did older stuff, and a few occasional loners. And IMHO older stuff work so muvh better in game :P and trust me, I will most certainly not forget Daily News Building. I will finish it (hopefully soon)!

After few glitches were sorted out I finally finished the massing of the Maritime Exchange and here I present it to you:

    7bLnpA1.jpg

After this, I will work on storefronts and few architectural details that are missing. And than, excruciating work on materials should start :) Not sure if anyone noticed slightly angled walls in the back and on the right of the entrance. I decided to put them there (instead of straightening them up) because I think it might give some additional flavah to the BAT :)
